Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | November 2013 | Tearaway into a new world

Made a video for PocketStation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoH9r6xYb38

It's worth pointing out that this isn't an app; it's more of an emulator that you download for PSX titles with PocketStation support (meaning if you don't have any, there is nothing you can actually do with it). As such, there is probably no way it will come out West, as only a game or two kept their PocketStation support intact.

That is way cool. I never had one but I remember reading about it when FFVIII had come out. So obscure and niche.. makes me feel like a hipster just seeing it.

Why would that be the reasoning? If I was a developer I would be looking to push my game onto as many different platforms as possible regardless of success on a single platform.

Nevermind. I thought Futurlab were handling the PC port themselves, but they aren't.

What's the general consensus on the absolute best, must-play indie titles? I can only buy around five.

I like Guacamelee, Hotline Miami, Sine Mora. On PSM, there is also Cytus Lambda and Adventure bar labyrinth that I liked a lot.

Haven't played that many myself though. Heard good things about lone survivor. I also saw BlueMaxima's youtube vid on Castle Storm that looked pretty good.

Guacamelee's on sale tomorrow... you really should get that.

I personally love Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken, but I'd say most of us might agree on:

Guacamelee
Hotline Miami (PS+ free)
Spelunky
Stealth Inc.
Sound Shapes

That might be a platformer overload all at once, so you might be ok with just Guacamelee and Hotline Miami for a bit.

I'd choose from:

Super Stardust Delta
Hotline Miami
Spelunky
Sound Shapes
Guacamelee
Velocity Ultra
Stealth Inc.

... others I'd consider:

Limbo (if you've never played it)
Mutant Blobs Attack
Thomas Was Alone
Floating Cloud God (charming game, and dirt cheap)

And I want to suggest Lone Survivor even though I haven't picked it up yet.

Mind that Guacamelee is coming to PS+ for sure, we just don't know when. Supposedly would be this month but something came up.

Not that you'd regret spending 10 bucks, but...

Not for sure... some EU PS+ titles are still missing for the US PS+
Mortal Kombat, Lumines Electronic Symphony, Unit 13 & Metal Gear Solid HD Collection are some examples, they may never arrive...

At the grand total, the EU users have gotten 31 Vita titles while the US users have gotten 25 titles (excluding PSP titles).

I think I'm hit by my Chronic Game Case Syndrome.

I just asked my friend he can buy me a copy of God Eater 2 since he's in Japan and might be coming home for Xmas.

How do you view the EU games available?

I saw a link to the new mobile site a while ago and it seemed correct, but if you go to the Vita PSN store on desktop it lacks a ton of games that I know should be there: Dracula X, MGS PW, Hotline Miami, MHFU etc...

So weird.

On Steam? Unless they shift some of the target times for medals, that'll be absolutely aggravating to do only with kb/m or controller.

Wonder if the bugs will exist or if it will be superior to Vita version by having them fixed.

I went to buy Sine Mora from the Vita store not realizing it was actually free :D

Edit: Hotline Miami too! :OOO

Did you get a PS+ sub and forget you get free games with it?! LOL

These are what I would've suggested. Add Spelunky to that, which will give you a ton of bang for your buck.

And then maybe save the rest of that cash for Rogue Legacy whenever that drops.

Rogue Legacy will be fantastic, but it's not due til 2014 sometime.

Not that you'd regret spending 10 bucks, but...

EU, not NA+. I guess we're being punished for 'Blame Canada'...
I paid $12 or so at launch with PS+ discount and it was worth every penny...
So while it does nothing for me personally, it's just another reason EU PS+ is fantastic.

You can now do panoramic photos with the camera app.. What the heck more do you ask for?? :p

Dripping with sarcasm. I like it.

And more reasons to love EU PS+...

Pretty much can't miss, I'd recommend to everyone:
Spelunky
Hotline Miami
Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
Guacamelee
Sine Mora
Super Stardust HD

Seems legit, but haven't played it fully yet:
Stealth Inc.
Lone Survivor
LIMBO

Cheap and great for the price:
Flying Hamster HD
Kung Fu Rabbit

Good if you like that sort of thing:
escapeVektor
Urban Trial Freestyle
Sound Shapes (although this game was a huge disappointment for me... so I have trouble recommending it.)
Velocity Ultra (another tough recommendation based on some bugs I experienced repeatedly which detracted from my enjoyment.)

Even with the awesome goodies this month from NA PS+, why do I still feel like EU users are laughing at my happiness?

Pretty much.

Because they are. EU users are getting the better deal on PS+

Preach it.

Nice official bundles for the holidays in Japan. Vita seems to be fine till the middle of January at least in Japan.

I am betting my money that SRW Z3 will be announced for Vita come January.

Endless glory to the Queendom of Avalon!

Avalon Battle Cry:
OPPAI OPPAI OPPAI

(Also, Sephia is the true ruler of Union, not King Leon.)

meh psp port

It does confirm my suspicion that these indie games are not doing as well as we're led to believe.
Yeah, Minecraft, Hotline Miami, Spelunky and a whole bunch more didn't do well on their first platforms which is why they all came elsewhere. That's the general rule of porting.

And I just bought the game too! :(

You didn't know they were going to end the service?

It was announced 2 or 3 months ago, I think.

I knew it was going to end soon but not this soon. I was hoping to join a few wars before it ended. I still appreciate the game but I will likely miss this feature very much. I'll just wait for a sequel.

About Z3, the faster they make the game, the faster they'll take my money. I want some movie mech upgrades and a final ending. I'm really a fan of the series and finished each Z game 4 times. Can't wait how OP 00 QuanT and a few super robots like Gurren Lagann will be.

May be tardy to the party, but just completed hotline miami. Gameplay was pretty steller. It definitely makes the cut of games to keep on vita to chip away at trophies at a later date. Good job HM.

Now have a nice two week rest period of crappy sales so i can catch up on my backlogged games.

And damn! That update was fast...time to rearrange bubbles...

Ooo cant wait for Tearaway and Ys!!!

Talking about the best indie games on Vita, I have not seen mentioned Quell Memento, is a really nice puzzle game, there is a demo in the Store if you want to give it a try.

Some of my favourites:

Guacamelee
Hotline Miami
Spelunky
Super Stardust Delta
Jet Set Radio
Malicious Rebirth
Sound Shapes

Anybody tried Castlestorm yet? Post impressions if so.

I watched part of BlueMaxima's extensive video (quite a lot of it was building the castle but he tells you when to skip if you want, seems like he knows the game pretty well and gives tips) -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k5gzQBxg-o

Seems fun, will be getting it if priced okay - still didn't finish the video yet though

-before I slept yesterday night (and my laptop ran out of juice) did the original level in the impossible game in 127 practice goes. Damn hard.

Nice interview, thanks for posting, will be grabbing this!

the guy has 9 pet sheep?

looks like a pretty decent type of those games....i'd play it - am expecting a 15$ price tag though.

edit - ah! nice 10$.

Finally played virtua tennis on the vita. OMG, I am now completely hooked. Lol.

I suck at it though. I can only win the practise matches in world tour. The grand slams are impossible.

Castlestorm is a lot of fun. Quite a surprise it's coming to Vita. Real looker if its native res.

Might double dip myself.

Not sure if new. Thought it was releasing sooner. Had an email update from cduniverse about date changed to 27th November for Ys Celcetta. I import so yeah CDuniverse works out well for most my stuff and it bills me upon ordering so can pay for a bunch of games at start of the year and forget until they arrive/email confirmation on shipped items

"The producers/manufacturers of this item have decided to change its release date to 11/27/2013. You do not need to respond. We ask for your patience, as we have no control over the release dates of our products."

I had plans to pre-order the physical version of Tearaway, but I slid my finger for the PSN version.

(Since the physical cover is very cute I'll purchase one copy in the future).

^ I thought your avatar looked familiar, looking now
The impossible game, already have it but I don't think I played it!
evil! fair warning though
love the soundtrack, rated
first level - 251 attempts (practice of course) really enjoying it, trying the original one now
no
:P
Yup!! I should actually beat the game one of these days. I have the PSP version after all.
Because we're superior in every way.
Good thing the US gets not screwed in literally every single other way then :).

Has a God Eater 2 OT been claimed yet? If not, I'll take a crack at it.
It doesn't seem to be, but you should reserve it in the OT thread.

Edit: Most OTs are for western release, but I think the general procedure is that you should label your OT as "Import" if you want to do one for the Japanese release.

That TuneIn app hit the store today.

Audio doesn't work on background, but that I already expected. But it's also one of those apps that can't be launched alongside a game for example (it'll prompt you to close one or the other) and you can't turn the screen off manually; pressing the power button will put the app to sleep as well, but if you don't touch the Vita for 5min the screen fades out with it still running.

Not a bad app, but these system quirks...

anyone have experience hacking their Vita?

really want to get the Wadjet Eye games, Phantasy Star IV and Mother 3 working....

Ok VitaCats, please help me pick my next game. I'm looking for something that I can play for a long time and has a good story. I'm a big fan of turn based JRPGs.

Games I own

Metal Gear Solid HD - loved it
Gravity Rush - loved it
Hot Shots Golf - loved it, played 100+ hours (anyone know if they're working on a tennis game?)
Hotline Miami - enjoying it, about halfway through I think
Persona 4 Golden - best vita game so far
Mortal Kombat - really liked it, much better than the ps3 version
Playstation All Stars - hated it
Silent Hill Book of Memories - liked it
Played the killzone beta, it was okay, I'm not a FPS kinda guy

PS1

I've beaten all the good Final Fantasy games I-X and enjoyed all of them (6&8 especially)
Harvest Moon Back to Nature - one of my favorite ps1 games
Chrono Trigger - Masterpiece
Cho Aniki - love it
Wild Arms - got it for free, is it any good?

PSP

Megaman Maverick Hunter X - loved it
Patapon -got it for free, pretty good
Patchwork Heroes - got it free, meh
Valhalla Knights - freebie, couldn't play more than 10 minutes

Any recommendations? Anyone besides Toto enjoy Gurumin?
