Game Informer: "Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers" (ouch)

Well it was originally a Kinect only game so that left hand of the controller on the rails combat makes sense. Sorry for your loss xbone launch.

Played it at fanexpo Toronto and it was exactly as they are describing it. What can we expect though, it was originally a kinect title.

That subreddit is filled with the most irrational pieces of shit I've ever seen.

The tweet isn't even calling out the Xbox One, just a certain game, yet they choose to launch a crusade on anyone who opposes them.

It looks "phenomenal"? Let's here you say that when it's released.

Can no negative comment be made without it coming from some biased source?

Not to mention they called out CBOAT. Just a bunch of asshats.
It's crazy how different it is from the PS4 subreddit, which is basically full of normal people.

THIS.

The subreddit makes me ashamed of being an xbone owner :o

Honestly when you see supporters of a console being that defensive you know somethings wrong. I'm getting Xbox at launch and I've been calling out these issues they're having. I'm also getting a PS4 but I'm not gonna go around pretending like Knack is the best thing ever.

Change the graphics to Fantasy.

Put a SEGA logo at the start.

Rename it to GOLDEN AXE: RESURRECTION.

But keep the game entirely the same: 99% of reviewers and GAF'ers spontaneously orgasmically combust.

You are shitting me right? Cause people loved the PS2 Golden Axe remake /s

Of course.

But Ryse is sure pretty.

Nothing indicates that this is a broken game.
May not be everyones cup of tea, but definitely not broken.

I didn't mean to imply that. I'm just pointing out that if the gameplay is bad enough it would actually take away from the experience compared to no gameplay at all.

this makes Dynasty Warriors games sound groundbreaking

last time i checked the dynasty warrior games had a vast array of weapon that changed the moves and allowed you to do ground and aerial combos not to mention extensive customisation of your character ( either they clothes ) or even create a character yourself
I won't even talk about the double & triple attack finishers .

SO yeah in term of combat complexity , the dynasty warriors games are quite above plenty of franchises.

and the reason why you can mash any button to execute... needed to be as forgiving as possible with kinect... so if you accidentally flailed your arm up... you still execute that side swipe... they just carried that control input over to a controller... super sad. I actually got bored when i played it, while some people took 30min to an hour playing... i stopped at about 10 min... i wanted to just toss the controller over my shoulder and walk off all disgusted looking... but the devs gave me a dirty look ... lol.

I'd imagine that watching a stream by the developers intended to promote their game is going to be quite a different thing to a neutral party actually playing the game and reporting on their experience...

Nobody is disputing that it's not a nice game to look at, Game Informer are saying that it isn't a whole lot of fun to actually play.

Yeah, I doubt they are playing it one handed and theyknow where clipping and glitches occur. Devs should make their game look good.

More like one-trick-pony gonna one-trick.

There have been good launch titles, and there will be decent ones this time around too. Just not... all of them.

Decent I can believe. I wouldn't raise the bar much higher than that.

Some people were really expecting those crunch dinners to work like a hyperbolic time chamber for game development, and I just hate to think of their disappointment after shelling out so much cash.

So I had this pre-ordered but after these less than stellar previews and gameplay footage, I'm pretty disenchanted about Ryse. I already have DR3 pre-ordered and will have KI as well, but would you guys recommend I pick up Forza? I wanna have a solid trifecta for my Xbone launch lineup. I've never been a huge racing game fan, but I have enjoyed me some NFS over the years.

PS: If this isn't the appropriate thread for this sort of post, if someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it :)

So the game actually turns out to be quite piss poor?

As if there was ever any doubt.

Crytek you're becoming another factor5. Get people who actually know how to keep your games as interesting as your tech.

Not surprising at all. It looked so repetitive and boring in the playthrough on twitch tv today. Graphics is all it has going for it

Just like every Crytek game!

This. Outside the sandbox that is Crysis 1, what are the redeeming qualities of the other bland games Crytek has produced?

They certainly are amazing from a graphical fidelity perspective, though.

Are there any other 3rd party devs who have licensed the Cryengine for use as middleware for their own game? Maybe they can produce something which is beautiful and has depth.

Sigh. And got the e-mail asking to pay for Xbone today as well. This news just made it very hard to decide if worth it. Not a big car simulation fan, and getting Forza pack. What else is there?

Xbone doesnt really need ryse to have a compelling launch lineup though. They got forza, dead rising, killer instinct, and others luckily!

Kinda sad for crytek really. It still might sell pretty well though.

Not sure if crunch has anything to do with it, as Ryse's problems seem to be conceptual and design related.

Sure, its a hack and slash game - but what else is there besides the straight up hack and slash? What variety is there to keep the core gameplay loop from going stale within the first hour?

I've read about and seen blocking arrows with shields, and defending positions against waves of enemies with mild interactive elements. Thats literally it. And I haven't heard about what else there might be.

Arkham had amazing melee combat, but that was only one portion of the game. One tasty portion in a full meal. Ryse seems more like the mint you get on your pillow at hotels.

I think GI's been spoiled by The Order when they got around to playing Ryse. They've been giving endless praise to that game like no other.
