Looking forward to the Rule 34 stuff between the sisters.

We'll get worse.

MAJOR SPOILERS

We'll get people apologizing for the main villain, emphasizing his childhood problems and continuing to ship him with the main characters.

Edit; And jeez, I keep on forgetting to copy and edit, ending up with double posts.

Olaf has great thematic importance.

Glad you liked the script, even if I do think you are a little crazy for reading it now.

If you want to spoil yourself some more, I'll be happy to indulge you though:

Here are some recordings of songs which were played at certain Disney Stores. Lower quality and some ambient noise:

The reprise for First Time In Forever makes me think of Wicked for some reason. Hmm.... I'm okay with that.

Listening to First Time in Forever in shitty quality...is making me teary.

I CAN'T WAIT TO BE A FUCKING MESS IN THE THEATRE

Edit: Wtf, I'm bawling at Let It Go.

I can't

I love Idina. Her singing is so good.

Those lyrics are exclusive to the Demi Lovato version.

I especially regret the lack of this one which you've mentioned:

Up here in the cold thin air, I finally can breathe,
I know I've left a life behind but I'm too relieved to grieve.

They are? Darn it. I wanted to hear Idina Menzel sing them. Well, it's still great and I hope we get lots of great youtube covers of the Demi Lovato version lyrics.

But yeah.. that phrase in the lyrics is really good.

Edit: I must have played the Demi Lovato version a few dozen times this morning, probably bothered the cat with it. But cat and neighbors be damned if it isn't awesome. I mean, doing hand motions in the air awesome.

AGREED. "Here I Stand and Here I'll Stay." I kind of want that on my grave. :p

I actually expect The Wind Rises to take home the Oscar. It's Miyazaki's final film and news of his retirement is still fresh in the memory, the Academy might want to honour his career. Also a fair chance that it might be the better film, I wouldn't know yet.

It'll come down to Frozen VS The Wind Rises, but if I had to pick who I think will take it out I'd go with Frozen. After Tangled not even getting nominated Frozen winning would be so nice. All other contenders aren’t even worth mentioning...

"Let it Go" is going to be an instant classic. Many people are already saying its the peak of the film......not only is it beautifully sung with really good emotion and some great lyrics, but apparently it's also an epic visual treat as we see Elsa transform into her snow queen costume and build the ice palace while she sings it. It seems like a really empowering turning moment for the character. It'll no doubt be the stand out song and the main song people will look back on 20 years later. Here’s a 20 second leak of her singing it from the movie. Looks so promising!

I am kinda sad I wont be able to see this one for two years.. :(

TIME TO SPOILER HUNT

Two years? What's stopping you?

I've heard good things about the foreign films, especially Ernest and Celestine. Can't see them winning though, even if they deserve too. Their nominations just feel like tokenism to me.

Do you really want a 26 year old woman alone in the back of the theatre, ugly-crying, possibly loudly?

I didn't think so.
just chew on your lip and sob quietly :) Still don't understand. If you saw and heard the songs and stuff for the first time in cinema, without spoiling anything prior, your opinion about the movie woudl be much better. "Wow, i never expected this movie to make me cry. What a masterpiece." Now it will be "Yeah, sad, but i expected that". Maybe it works for some people, but it's weird to me. I feel like a movie meant to be enjoyed as a whole the first time you experience it, not bit by bit.

Hmm, being young and coming from live theater, that's a new viewpoint to me. Interesting.

My immediate thought is that if a song is good, it will work both in context and out of context. And that there is nothing that replaces the moment when you first, not only hear, but see and experience, with others, the full boar of the song when fit in it's "proper" place. It may even allow you to envelope yourself inside the performance more completely simply because you're not dealing with the unfamiliarity of new music.

As someone who liked but didn't love Tangled's songs, (Mother Knows Best is amazing though) do Frozen's sound better?

There's some sense in this, I guess both could work. Still, I think that first opinion must be the strongest one possible, so it's better to experience it first time on biggest screen possible , and only then re-watch afterwards to notice all small detail you missed. It just seems like some degree of excitement will vanish if you spoil such important stuff beforehand.

:Q

Hearing that and having an Idina and Bell combo just shot up my hype to insane levels.

Why not have a listen for yourself?

I thought Tangled had solid songs, but never did they reach the classic stuff. While still good - they where a bit on the sugary pop side. Frozen on the other hand feels like a full broadway production. I have no problem putting "Let it Go" alongside the all time greats. As far as I'm concerned it's already locked in for best song at the Academy Awards. "For The First Time" is another really solid track. It's got a really fun vibe that switches in tone dramatically when Elsa starts singing. It's a great duet, especially the reprise.

All in all this is the movie that finally gives off a full classic Disney movie vibe on pretty much all fronts.

Really, really liking "For the First Time in Forever", and "Let it Go" is pretty kickass too. Looking forward to seeing Frozen a lot more now than I was before.

Frozen is the best Disney animated movie since the 90s. Yeah, I am going to have to jump on the bandwagon here. 2011, 2012, and most of 2013 have been extremely poor when it comes to its animated offerings, so I am glad to see that the genre is not completely bone dry. Frozen blends a tightly paced and wonderful plot, gorgeous animation, memorable characters, and show stopping songs and creates a film so good that it gives me hope for the future of the studio. I liked Frozen so much that I now have to rethink how I will rate my favourite Disney movies. Frozen is truly one of the greatest animated/family films to come out in recent memory and I am now excited to see what other tricks Disney has up their sleeves.

Hey everyone. I worked on this film. Very proud of how it turned out. Glad to see positive reviews showing up after the trailers sorely misrepresented the film. Hope you all go see it and enjoy it!

Congrats on the film. I hope it turns out and is received well, early signs are indeed promising.

I feel so alone on actually liking the snowman :(

It seems a good number of those who watched the film did end up liking him.

Well, if we are posting the opinions of non professional critics, there are also a few very negative ones.

There is this very scathing one for instance:

http://www.movieweb.com/movie/frozen-2013/REpTuTcfdDwosy

There is also this 1.5 star review on this French site, which as far as I can tell harshly criticizes the animation and songs.

http://www.filmosphere.com/movies/la-reine-des-neiges-chris-buck-jennifer-lee-2013/

Granted, most of the reception is indeed very positive. And there is a fairly well-written positive review here:

I might actually go check this out in theaters. I absolutely adore the Disney musical movies of the 90's. I've only seen part of Tangled, but didn't enjoy the musical numbers as much (which was heartbreaking since Menken was at the helm). The recordings for this one sound really promising though and its encouraging to see the positive reviews.

I hated him but there was a clip of his song out, and...he's actually kind of endearing. I still think his design is unfortunate, but I'm guessing he'll grow on me.

No worries. I never judge films through trailers, and pretty much have a gut feeling this will turn out good ;)

Can't wait for it to air here.

Congratulations on the film! I am burning with jealousy :p I've been bingeing on the Disney Renaissance musicals the past couple days in preparation for this. The 27th can't get here soon enough for me.

I really like him. He seems like a breath of fresh of air from the usual sassy, wise-crackin' sidekicks that you'd normally expect in a movie like this.

Actually he's "supposed" to be the goofy, ditzy sidekick which is also predominant in films.

With that said he has depth.

I love Disney and I'll be seeing this one for sure, but strangely, I have no hype. I was really excited for Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph; maybe it was the awful teasers that gave no semblance of what Frozen is about that kinda killed my hype train. The trailer is ok, though.

If you're a fan of the Disney catalogue as a whole you might consider joining us in the Disney Blu-Ray thread:

Dude, did you see the teasers for Tangled? They were completely awful and I wasn't looking forward to it at all, to the point where I kinda didn't believe the people who said it was good. Now I adore that movie.

...to be honest I don't remember the teasers for Tangled. I do remember looking forward to seeing it though.

If Tangled's teasers were bad, and the movie turned out to be awesome, then it follows that since Frozen's teasers are bad, it too will be awesome. That is irrefutable logic.

But no seriously the reviews are kinda getting me hyped now.

edit: ^^^ thanks for the link. WOW was that bad. Like holy crap bad.

WAT?! No way am I taking this review seriously. I’ve got no problems with negative reviews, but this one just comes off as an angry random rant more than an actual review.

It's pretty obvious he just wants reactions. It's a laughable 'review'. I mean he gave the visuals a 2.5/5? He didn’t even like Tangled? Sorry, but his opinion is null and void! :p

I remember people complaining about how it was too "snarky" and "modern". Kept comparing it to Dreamworks (which is weird because Tangled was released during the time which was considered to be DW's "turn over a new leaf" phase).

Like I said, people judging movies by trailers.

Another review:

http://www.slantmagazine.com/film/review/frozen-2013

Heavily criticizes the first act but is otherwise positive.

I'm a little sick of the criticism of past princess films, though. Brave and this film aren't that game-changing in terms of progressiveness.

The trailers were so goddamn bad I almost wrote this off, until I realized I did the same thing to Tangled and loved that movie.

Seems to be a common theme.

I'd say that those who enjoyed Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph will probably enjoy this one as well. Most people who have watched pre-screenings seem to prefer it over Tangled though I doubt that will be the case for me personally.
