People also shouldn't flip a shit over the possibility that things are horrible. You wait until the situation is actually dire before freaking out.

I agree; there is no reason for people to panic over a few reported incidents; as problems are always more pronounced and brought to attention - tomorrow will be more helpful. I just find it ridiculous that people are trying to create failure statistics.

Has that ever been common procedure at GAF? But yeah, no reason to freak out yet.
Well yeah, we are on the internet. This type of behavior is commonplace. Im just pointing out how to approach this situation rationally like a good chunk of people here already are.

Exactly. They'd just call Sony.

It's ridiculous to think that it's only 8 consoles, when the majority of them are consoles that are in the spotlight(kotaku, ign, reddit user, gaffer, polygon, hi11zone). What are the odds of that?

There have to be more. We just don't know about it. I'm not saying the failure rate is 1000000000%, because of course it isn't but it's larger than what people are downplaying it to be.

I don't understand your logic.

I'm glad he's acknowledging it even if it ends up being a minor issue in the long run. I can't say I'm not worried because I'm a paranoid person (heck last year I was in this same spot about the wii u when it was bricking over that firmware update and was having hard locks) , but for now there isn't much to be gleaned from this until more ps4s are out there. I am tempted to maybe probably not download too much stuff but then I also really want to play resogun and contrast.

7 out of 4700 is a small number?

But that's all of them!

You act like 7 are the only ones who broke down. But it will probably be more except those people are not rambling on the internet. That said everylaunch has his problems. Do think this is still small and people overeact. But once it launches we have to see if the small problem is still small, but most important how sony is going to react to these problems.

Let's say for the sake of math it's 8 out of 4000 and there will be 3 million in the wild tomorrow, will you be one of the 6000 in tears?

7 you say..? hmmm and Polygon has one, they only use for MP.. hmmm..that explains the 7.5 score they gave the console..

Said to be 4000+ consoles out there being used atm.

8 reported defective units...

0.2% defective rate.

PANIC!

Taking the peak ~30% RROD defective rate initially, that's 15000% better!

You can probably easily multiply that number by 10 or 15...Not everyone gets on NeoGaf or twitter to report...

So, because a media outlet happens to have one of the consoles with an issue, it automatically makes it widespread?

Typically that is what happens. If a company as big as IGN has a broken PS4 its going to be known and spread like wildfire. If joe blow in the middle of Texas has a broken PS4 no one will ever know about it most likely.

Just wait for the shitstorm that will occur on week 48 when unaware X1 early buyers will realize they can't play a game without updating...

When two outlets report having had one die in the first few days, it begins to raise eyebrows.

No, it's not evidence of serious problems. But it is enough to make you wonder.

Multiply that number by 10 or 15? There could be more but I doubt that a Taco Bell PS4 winner doesn't post on some kind of gaming related forum or another. Hell even just posting about it on their Facebook should garner traction I'd think.

Or you could wait to actually hear about ACTUAL incidents as opposed to making shit up.

Just because people don't plaster it all over social media doesn't make incidents any higher, for all we know there could be no more defective units out there or there could be 1000.

Welcome to the state of the social media on the internet. Imagine what twitter/blog ports of trouble during the ps1 and ps2 era would have been.

There will be a bigger deal the when the first retail Xbox One fails. The sky will be falling.

I would think that most probably did. Unhappy customers are always the most vocal, and in 2013 there are many, many ways to be very publicly vocal.

The winners were Taco Bell customers, not all of them will have been gamers. I don't know how many defective PS4s were sent out, I expect not many more than we know about, but the 8/4000 argument is not that useful.

The sad thing is that you will have a small handful of people with console issues and they will be the ones that end on the internet making it look like the issue is much worse than it actually is.

On the otherhand if there does end up being a legit issue every single bit of goodwill that Sony has built up will be gone.
