Playstation 4: The Little Things

I like the ps4 and I see know it's day one so things will get sorted out. Right now I don't like how much work you have to put into making a party, and the game installs are weird because at a point you think you've completely installed a game, until the next to you insert the disc. It's like surprise, we aren't done yet...lol

But I really like the streaming, it's so simple to use. I can't see how anybody would have trouble using this.

The things I really like are how fast the games boot up, how smooth everything feels, i didn't do too much navigating yesterday because I just wanted to play these new games.

Yeah, the library needs work, but the PS3 had sorting, so I'm not worried, that is an easy patch in.

yeah, it had sorting but came after release. it should have had sub sections. Games, Demos, Apps. Folders.

i love my data sorted. ^-^" RL is a mess though.

question: i hate "hard coded" stuff. like singstar starter, App starters. stuff i have to download to have them active. can i delete those on PS4. like Sony Unlimited ..its in the "timeline" but can i delete it + video apps?
i will never use something like that, except i get a voucher for trial or so, but other than theat ...never.

- The eight little load bars that have to pass when I press to download something on the PlayStation Store.

THIS one hundred times. When I went to go download my first item, I could not believe we had to have the 10 second black load/pause screen to start the download. It really should just drop right into your download queue. Very jarring after using sleek apple products for so long.

- I bought AC4:BF, and the touch zoom function on the map is very loosey goosey. Doesn't feel accurate at all. Makes me wonder how refined the touch pad really is. Time will tell I guess.

- We're gonna need to sort our apps and games Sony.

- PS Store is much faster here on the PS4, way way faster. Still some slow downs though. Maybe with all this RAM I'm expecting everything to fly around light speed.

- The camera is neat and Playroom is a treat, very polished and cute. I find logging in with your face not always accurate and having to hold the controller up to match your face seems pretty silly at this point. I really hope they up their camera game because logging in with your face is way more convenient than I thought it would be. The lighting in the room needs to be just right, and I like playing in the dark.

- Streaming music from MUnlimited is slow slow slow. I find the commands for pausing and stopping and skipping way too laggy, and I have a Fibre connection.

- I was really hoping for PS1 console start up music, or the choice to choose what you want to hear. I'm a dreamer.

....

This happened to me too when installing AC4:BF lol

How did you get a 1080p screen (or if anyone else knows)? Is it via a Facebook upload? I tried Twitter and the resolution is shit as the file is converted to much lower res jpg.

If you change large to orig in the Twitter URL you get a slightly better looking jpg

Awesome Console, but I really dislike the fact that not only can't I change the theme, but I can't even change the background color. I don't understand how they took a step backwards here. The Xbone UI looks amazing! You can actually change the color on there. Hopefully Sony releases Premium Themes again.

R3 on the keyboard is great, such a neat feature. My favorite little thing though...When I was first setting up the PS4, after I had connected to Wi-Fi and made it to the home screen, I found the firmware update icon and when I went to download it, I already had 90mb downloaded--it started downloading immediately after connecting to Wi-Fi!

Remote play is useless in my house. To be clear, my wife wants "that shit" out of our bedroom. PS4 is in the living room, our bedroom to high and far for remote play. Tried to sneak playing in bed and wouldn't connect.

Funny enough it works in our bedroom bathroom.

Remote play is basically useless for me.

For me, the best things so far have been:
-the option to pipe all game audio through a set of headphones via controller. My wife is even happier.
-using the touch pad to scroll the map in AC4 has been wonderful

The OS lags super hard when a large game is installing.

I'm installing NBA2K14 right now and floating around the OS and damn...struggle city. Heavy stutter and several times where the UI is non-responsive for several seconds at a time.

I wonder if the background processor is being used for the OS UI too? Games don't seem to be affected by installing a game (maybe installs get a lower priority in that case). Or maybe it's just disc access? The UI is pretty simple so you'd think they could have it cached in ram, but they seem to be updating the tiles from PSN an all the time. Maybe they just need time to settle it in and then can make performance improvements. Personally I'd cache the UI and display that immediately, and then only update Live items as and when the network can provide them. Performance first on the UI.

The patching and installing has been weird for me.

It seems when I let the system do either function it works fine. However when I get a notification that something is ready to install and then try to install it it has been hanging up and just saying "please wait..."

Can we talk about the little things that bother us, too?

- The eight little loady bars that have to pass when I press to download something on the PlayStation Store.

- No sorting options in the library.

- No sorting options in trophies.

- Library groups apps with games.

That's.. disappointing. Is that referring to the installed library? It sucks either way, but it would be doubly annoying if the "download library" list still has no sorting functions. I hope that's not the case. Showing them in "purchase order" only is a joke.

The speed of the UI is honestly insane. So fast and smooth. Gyro typiing is also a godsend. I really love this thing so far.

When downloading a game patch, the games don't seem to quit automatically to install the patch, I was sure if the game installed or not and when I tried to continue playing it just said a patch is needed. So I quit the game myself and then upon relaunching it the patch installed, kind of weird, was i like that on PS3?

can you play games in 480p and 720p ? And what i mean by that is, is there any difference in fps and stability?

The "little thing" that I like best is that you can check the latest updates to a game, and they list patch notes. Some games do a better job than others, but over time this should become better and better. It is just really nice being able to see exactly what an update did.

Yeah, it's disappointing, but that's how it currently is. The fact that it exists at all is good though, and I will take a digital library with no sorting over the download list any day. One of the first things I did when I got my system last night was "purchase" all of my pre-ordered games and download them. Then I fully downloaded Flower since it was small, and then deleted it to make sure the Library was a properly functioning thing. I was very pleased, as I plan on going digital only for the entire generation. I do kind of get the feeling that this was a last minute implementation though, so I'm sure there will be sorting options soon enough. Right now it's likely just not a big priority for them since there aren't enough games out for it to be an issue yet.

Go into the settings menu and then the PS Vita connection settings and check the box that says "Connect Directly with PS Vita". It should work better. It did for me.

I just noticed that devices are listed in your log-in profile. You can see, under "logged in", are device icons. It's shows the DS4, keyboard and mouse. I can use the keyboard directional buttons to navigate, "Enter", ofcourse, is "X" button and "Backspace" is the "O" button. The mouse is registered, but it doesn't seem to do anything at this point.

Having a snappy UI and jumping in and out of games quickly. They are gonna have to move some things around eventually, but I love how fast it is.

Little thing that piss me off is that I cant remote play with a different account on console than the Vita.

Example Vita is my bro's and my PS4.

Im on PS4 with my account and my Bro has his Vita with his account. I want to remote play so I go to Vita and Vita says Im logged into PS4 so it makes me log off my PSN account on PS4 and it automatically logs onto my Bro's PSN account on PS4.

I like how if you enable HDMI Device Link unable Settings > System, when you press the Playstation button, it will automatically switch to the PS4 HDMI input. If your TV happens to be off, it will turn it on as well. So when I walk in the room to play PS4, I grab the controller, press the PS button and I'm good to go. Or if I switch to another input to watch TV for a minute, hitting the PS button will get me back to the PS4. Your TV needs to support this feature and be enabled in your TV's settings. My TV is from 2009 so I imagine most current TVs have this feature. That's a little thing that makes the entire experience nicer.

I can't believe I am still unable to take a photo when composing a message to a friend. The 360 does it. You have to use an app on the PS3 to take the photo to add to a message. I don't even know how, or if you can take a personal photo with the camera. Am I missing something?

I can't believe How quick it is to switch from a game to home/apps. I'm used to the painfully slow loading XMB from ps3. Love it! Oh and the controller is amazing. Hopefully can customize correct/background pics soon.

Had a great time in party chat with friends and played with the system for 6-7 hours yesterday. The one little thing that annoyed me was the notifications bringing me back to the XMB while in options.

The UI is as good as I was hoping.

Used remote play for 2 hours this morning and it was perfect. Browsed GAF, played Trine 2 and Contrast, and messaged all from my living room 25ft away.

My biggest take away is how much faster the PSN is vs on the PS3. Downloads are very fast. Overall, the UI is slick and fast but not very intuitive. All the gaming and social media functionality works perfectly though, which I imagine was their focus out the gate. Can't say much about anything else because it frankly doesn't do much of anything else.

The OS gets a bad rap, that is for sure. You may not be able to watch TV and do a voice call at the same time, but it is super fast, never hangs for me and is instantaneous.

I can be playing Killzone, Pause it, hit the home button, open the web browser to check something online, open the store and add a game to my download list, send a friend invite, read some messages, start a party chat, then click back on Killzone and pick right up where I left off. Everything is instant and quick. I love it the OS. It basically took the speed and functionality of the Vita OS and improved on it, which I love.

Chiming in about remoteplay.

It's fucking fantastic.

My PS4 is upstairs and I was using it all night downstairs playing Resogun and Contrast and watching some stuff on Crunchyroll. I dunno what the exact distance is from my living room to my ps4, but it's still impressive to me.

Lagless experience except when first connecting. It seems to take a few seconds to stabilize but then it's flawless.

Few of the things I noticed

- any 3 prong headphones can be used as a headset plugged into the dualshock 4 I'm using my Kunai headset to stream game audio and chat it has a better mic!
- you can send voice messages and pictures now
- os is very fast
- remote play is allot better then it was on psp
- I think your profile is saved to your dual shock every time I plug it in to charge it brings up my profile

How do you send voice messages?

I noticed on mine, if I have my satellite box on, if I put my PS4 in standby, it will automatically switch my TV to my satellite feed, which switches out my receiver automatically. It is pretty slick.

Basically by putting my PS4 in standby, it automatically switches me back to watching TV without hitting anything on my remote. The PS3 didn't do this, although it WOULD turn everything on or off for me just by powering on or off the PS3.

Anyone use the voice command functions yet? I have no clue how it works and I think my PS4 is getting tired of me telling it to turn the fuck on.

I cant seem to get them to work with my USB headset. Only way that I've gotten it to work is by directly connecting my headset to the DS4.

This. I have never seen an ui so fast. I'm glad they went with xmb because it really shines now with how simple it is to access everything

Maybe I'm doing something wrong I tried creating a second user and it won't let you have an avatar unless the second account has PSN+? So the second user can't even play mp online?
