Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Just came back from the mall. I bought Pikmin 3 and Luigi U. I didnt know the Luigi game has the exact same map as NSMBU haha. However the change in conditions is quite fun as well. No wonder it's just half the price of NSMBU.

I have windwaker HD bundled with my Wii U. Should I invest in a pro controller? The Gamepad is quite heavy to play with..

I also bought 2 wiimotes - the mario and luigi limited edition.

Yeah New Super Luigi U is originally just a DLC for NSMBU. They just decided to make a disc stand-alone release as well.

I highly recommend playing Wind Waker HD with GamePad. It makes the experience so much better (inventory management and checking map on fly may seem like a trivial thing but it's not, neither is stuff like adjusting controls with gyro). I just wouldn't want to go back to regular controller after playing it with GamePad.

It's there. I used it in Miiverse the other day.

Very weird that some pieces of software force you to type with GamePad then.

I was actually looking for the Mario bundle Wii U for my niece but couldn't find it any of the stores I went to. I was like 'what, Wii U is selling now!?'

Yeah, I had to go to three stores last week to find one, and got the last one that Best Buy had.

There were some articles online talking about the Mario/Luigi bundle selling out, so hopefully it is sales upticking a tad from finally having a good bundle and the holidays upcoming and not just stores not stocking very many.

What's the best bundle to get? The Mario one or the Zelda one?

Depends on:

Which game you want more.
Whether you want the Zelda logos on the gamepad/wii U.

Value wise, if you want both games, the Mario bundle is a better deal. NSMBU is $60 most places still ($44..55 on Amazon currently), and NSLU $30. The Wind Waker remake is $50.

So Mario bundle you're getting say $75-90 of game value (depending on NSMBU cheapest price at time you buy), vs. $50 in the Zelda bundle.

Glad to see this thread is helping out so many.

With the setup and transfer process taking so long last night, (even though I really didn't mind) I didn't get much playtime. That all changes today though!

Freakin off TV play is so awesome.

cant stress this enough

getting to play all the games i couldnt due to time constraints when im in bed or so is awesomness

Man I woke up this morning, groggily walked into my living room, grabbed the pad, walked back to my bedroom, curled up in bed and played some Mega Man X in a beautiful crystal clear resolution with outstanding sound.

True next gen gaming right here. It was fucking bliss.

Just want to recommend Deus Ex Human Revolution Directors Cut if anyone hasn't played it. Bought it last night and it's fantastic, I'm attempting a non-lethal play through my first run.

I have to say, it warms my heart to see this thread still going in such a positive manner. Last night me and my girlfriend, who rarely if ever bothers with gaming, played Nintendo Land for about three hours straight.

Right now she's playing Mario U and steadfastly refuses to use the run button. There's actual blood coming out of my ears watching it.

I'm glad that you and your gf are enjoying NL. I hope Mario 3D World convinces a few more people to try out the system too :)

Holy shit. That's exactly how my GF plays Mario as well. She doesn't grasp the context of holding down the run button and how you can press jump at the same time.

Result = always falling to her death.

The speakers in the Gamepad are definitely underrated or overlooked.
overheard?

Ugh! My wife does the same thing. There needs to be a support group for people like us.

For the past week or so, I've been thinking about what system I want to get over the holidays. I'm so tempted to get a Wii-U now instead of a PS4 because there's not much out for PS4 until later on, and I am always a little iffy on launch systems.

But if I did get a Wii-U, I'm not sure about what bundle to get. On the one hand, I'd love to get the Wind Waker one for the special gamepad, but... I hate that it doesn't come with a physical copy of Wind Waker. So I'd probably end up having to sell the digital code on Ebay and just buy the physical copy which seems like a lot more trouble. On the other hand, I could get the Mario&Luigi bundle which as someone said is a better deal technically, and I'd get more games out of it. I'm leaning toward the Mario bundle because I do want those games, too... and the gamepad on the Zelda bundle isn't really that cool. The console looks the same on both, too (wasted potential if you ask me).

I guess it just makes more sense to get the Mario bundle, eh?

Come to my arms, brothers! You would not believe the number of times we have this exchange:

"Why can't I get across that gap?"
"You're not using the run button so you don't jump as far"
"I DON'T WANT TO USE THE RUN BUTTON"

When she does use it, it results in a hold-right-on-the-D-pad death grip that inevitably sends her bombing down the nearest hole.

uug all the blackfriday deals on wii u games suck, I was planning on picking up a bunch of games for under $50 but no, only the worst launch games are priced cheap =/ then again I do plan on buying 3D world full price

Yeah, I'm really disappointed in all the Black Friday deals for Wii-U and the games this year. There's not much about there... The Best Buy bundle is something, I guess, but still not that great.

Getting Mario 3D World day one! Never been able to convince her to play 3D Mario, she only likes the 2D platformers - I think with multiplayer and the level design, this will be the gateway drug...

Easily the Mario one. You can't buy the pack in disc with both NSMBU and NSLU outside of the bundle. Meanwhile, the Zelda bundle just (AFAIK) gives you a preloaded version of the game instead of a disc. That, and I'm not a fan of the design on the controller.

Download code, actually.

Exactly why I didnt buy that bundle. I thought the design on the Pad was tacky and if Im spending 300 plus tax on a system with a game, then I want the hard copy of the game. No digital bullshit.

I do plan on getting WWHD though eventually. Haven't played it since it first released.

I actually liked the look of the pad which is why I got it. It seemed a lot more low key than they sometimes do. Having a digital copy does kind of suck though, plus I didn't know the mario bundle existed but I still would have went zelda.

I wouldve been closer to biting if it didnt have the Triforce picture on the side of it. The Hyrulian swirly design or whatever on the bottom looks cool though.

But no hard copy, especially of something like Wind Waker Redux? That's such a buzzkill.

I need some information regarding my Wii u...

I still have my Wii and want to migrate all my software, but I had set it up for the homebrew channel and whatnot. I know I haven't updated it in more than a year via wiiconnect or the store, will running the updates to download the migration software brick my Wii? Or will it just update over the homebrew install?

I transfereed from my hacked wii.

It will work, but you will need to re hack your old wii when done.

All "non legitamate" wads and stuff wont transfer

Yeah, I had assumed mario was digital but that's awesome that it isn't. I can definitely feel where you're coming from though.

Yes, so even though it is in HD is there any additional value added to gameplay?

I know the gamepad has Zelda artwork...but I think I am leaning toward the NSMBU bundle.

i got the tww hd bundle myself, but i would have waited for the nsmbu bundle if i knew it was on the way.

tww hd is a really strong remake. much of the pacing has been improved, and it looks/sounds great a lot of the time. if you haven't played it in a while, i can't argue against getting it. but if you're already leaning towards the nsmbu bundle, then that might be the one for you.

nsmbu is a pretty long game if you get everything. nslu is a bit shorter, but i feel it's the stronger of the two. getting both means you can spread them out a bit though, especially with 3d world coming up.

Yes, buy a Pro Controller.

I can't leave it since I have it, unless I want to do some off-screen gaming or if the game forces me to use it, like Rayman or Deus Ex.

*looks around all the new U fellas enjoying themselves, smiles, a tear of joy drops from his eye*

...just passing by, sorry

oh, anyway, buy Lego City. Lego City is a brilliant, brilliant game

3D World next week

ZombiU
Lego City
WWHD

That's enough to keep me occupied until Donkey Kong in February =D I wont even finish all of those by then.

Love Miiverse. My first post was a pretty shitty Mario vs. Slash (the guitar guy) drawing in the Smash Bros. Community and it already has 3 yeahs, lol.

Edit: lol at the Barbie Community.

Andrew, it's been a lot of fun reading your posts in this thread.

I just got the PS4 last night and it reminded me that I love the Wii U.

PS4 is pretty amazing, too.
