If you have a wii U and a copy of xenoblade, put dat on your gamepad

How many preowned copies of Xenoblade are there sitting at Gamestop as it is? It's kind of a rare game isn't it? I imagine most people that decided to sell it would've done so on eBay or something. I wouldn't be surprised if most Gamestops didn't even have any.

Gamestop ordered an exclusive reprint a while back

My favorite game this gen(last gen?). I do really wish you could play Wii games using the gamepad, however. Will something like that ever be possible?

This kind of shit really makes me want more info on X.

We got two fucking trailers this year, and it is already my most anticipated game of the goddamn forever. Give me more.

Wii owners can get the same experience. Just sit really far way from your TV.

As far as I'm aware, it's unlikely.

The OS of the Wii was hardcoded on each game disc. So when the game launched, the game used the OS version on the actual game disc. So each game would only be able to use the peripherals known to its version of the OS. Hence you can't use WiiU gamepad or controller pro in them.

The only way would be to re-write the Wii firmware so that it doesn't use the OS version on the disc. Don't know how feasible/possible that it.

I feel it would make more sense for them to just create a Wii U version of it and throw it up on the eShop or something. They'd likely have to go and create a profile for each individual Wii game to have it playable on the gamepad, and I don't really see Nintendo doing that.

How does the more superior than xenoblade
last story
look on the gamepad?

Took this photo a while back.

Xenoblade deserves much better than 480 x 800. Dolphin is the only true way to play it.

The way I did it, with the classic controller hooked up. It's pretty lovely supersampled and scaled down to 1080p.

I just haven't had time to play it yet since I'm going through a ton of games already, lol.

Uh, yeah,

No way I'm playing a Nintendo game on a PC.

I'd sooner take it on the gamepad, thank you.

Why? It's infinitely better looking and you can still use a controller. Not being able to use the U gamepad to control the game makes off screen play nearly useless.

I have both and in the minority, what do I get?

I am really happy I got Xenoblade and Metroid Prime Trilogy on launch, the games are insanely priced.

Some people prefer not to use emulators, myself being one of them.
However, that is not the point of this thread so I will leave it at that.

I will have to see if my funds can withstand another $40. If all else fails, ask for it as a christmas present.
Mario can wait.

Did as OP suggested, was not disappointed. Actually, I was a little disappointed when I remembered that I can't use the Gamepad to control the game, but still was awesome.

Dude, you are playing on a PC. A Nintendo game, on a PC. That is fucking gross.

Not to mention that you have to mod your Wii (even soft mod). Even fucking grosser.

Then you have to fiddle with settings. No thanks. I'll play it on the Wii proper.

I own both and might try this later tonight.

Maybe it'll get me to finally finish the game. I've gotten burnt out on it three times now, but I keep going back, thinking it'll finally click with me...

This time will be the same. :(

This was, in fact, the first and only Wii game I tried playing directly on the pad.

...having to have an additional controller kind of killed it for me. Went back to playing it on the TV, after playing for an hour or so (and thinking bemusedly at how much nicer the sound was coming from my headphones than the TV itself - picked up some things I hadn't).

I think you have no idea what you're talking about. You can use the Wii remote/CC/Wii U Pro controller. Hell, you can even emulate the Wii system (menu and all) if you want.

There's really no downside if the game works properly and you have a powerful enough PC for it.

it would take a lot of convincing for me to play xenoblade on a controller while using a controller attached to another controller

Haven't actually tried playing Xenoblade on Wii U after the update hit, even though the disc is already in there.

Is it fair to say it's the best JRPG OST of the generation?

Quite possibly.
In any case,
it's the best JRPG of the generation, maybe even EVER.

Playing on a SD TV made it look great too (better than a HD TV). There's no reason to shrink the screen down to 6 inches.

Not much irks me as a gamer.

But modding, unofficial emulation, modding to break region-lock, monkeying with official releases...these thing truly disgust me. Playing console games on PC is so wrong. All these things I find incredibly disrespectful and offensive. Play games on the consoles they were made for...or at least wait for official solutions. If they don't arrive, so what.

Nintendo offers Wii playback on the gamepad as an option and the OP is excited and instead we get folks coming here with their crap Dolphin statements. Disgusting. There is a dedicated thread for all that stuff.

As an aside: I've never owned a PC, and likely never will. I'll certainly never use one to play console Nintendo games.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own

People dont like buying games used for the simple fact that they're, well used, the discs arent in perfect condition, they have been somewhere you dont know, they most of the time dont come in the full packaging, and well, it gives atleast some of the money to the person it matters most, which could be another sale of thousands that could influence the future of the franchise.

It's an objectively superior experience on Dolphin. That's all there is to it. And it's the case with almost all Wii games.

I never get mentality like yours, it confuses me. I love my Wii U, but as a gamer when I see that playing a game one certain way gives me tangible, objective benefits compared to another certain way, I go for that way.

As I understand it, the Wii disc is a proprietary format, so it should not be read in a run of the mill disc drive. Which would explain why you need a modded Wii for it to work.

1) There are PC disc drives that will run Wii discs, but they are very very few and far between. I think it's something like 3 or 4 specific models.

2) You don't need a modded Wii for it to work. Unless you're counting putting something like Homebrew Channel on it as "modding."

I can't even begin to understand such a mentality.

I mean come on; disgust you? Seriously? Come on, man.

Sometimes I feel like people with this kind of mentality would enact laws that force us to buy a corporation's product. I mean we should be thankful these gracious corporations even allow us to purchase their amazing products, right?! How dare we offend their great works!
