Finally realised that Nintendo Directs aren't enough to generate interest outside the pre-existing fanbase then? That's good for them.

This line of thinking is just crazy to me. Do people not realise the typical gaming press report on the contents of Nintendo Directs just the same as if all that information were released in a standard Press Release? Or that these same sites have all those trailers for games that were featured in the Directs? How are Directs any worse than what anybody else does right now? Why do some people seem to think that whatever info is revealed in a Direct, stays in a Direct forever?

I actually do think it's something they would do.

Keep in mind, they were close to showing us this game 5 months ago.

I would rather assume they wont show nothing Zelda U related than hope they do, only to feel let down again if they don't.

I have too many scars from anticipating things that don't turn up when it comes to Nintendo :-(

But............... If they do show it, I will break dance around my house holding up random objects in the air in a pose similar to when Link finds a item in a chest.

Exactly. ALBW just released and people think Nintendo is going to show a trailer for ANOTHER Zelda?

lol

Eh, if it is a 2014 release, any other company would have shown a teaser for the game by now. Maybe there's a chance they've given up on the hold-out-forever schedule of announcing games.

Eh. Aounuma mentioned that he originally wanted to show something from the Wii U Zelda at ComicCon but decided against it because the team was too busy finishing ALBW at the time. IF he was serious about this (and it's entirely possible and even likely that he wasn't), showing a reveal at the VGX wouldn't be out of the question. ALBW went gold more than a month ago, that's enough time to cut a teaser trailer.

However, I don't trust Aounuma in that regard. Announcing a new game on the promo tour for a different game doesn't sound like a smart thing to do.

Smash X or Bayonetta 2 would go down well, an announcement would go down even better. Considering that relatively few people have heard of X, that would be the smart choice. A new Zelda announcement or something out there is what I'm hoping for though, third party exclusive please!

We can do all the analytics about the free internal and external first party developers or possible IPs. Or the fact that the VGX has been a heavy XBOX/PS crowd the past few years.

But it's Reggie. He presented Animal Crossing: City Folk as the answer to hardcore gamer demands not too long ago.

Except we know that Nintendo has things that would appear to that crowd already in the works. A trailer for X, Bayonetta 2 or Smash would be more than enough.
Plus, that was over 5 years ago, now.

Bro Zelda

There won't be a Zelda unveiling without either Miyamoto, Iwata or Aonuma being present, so everyone can let go of that thought.

As much as I'd like to see a new Metroid or something along those lines revealed, my guess is it's either going to be Smash, Bayonetta, or a montage of a few games we already know about.

On gametrailers he teased an appearance at the VGA's this year:

“We may be making an appearance. We may be doing something special. We’ll see.”

What do you think we'll see? New smash bros. characters? Zelda trailer? Or something completely unexpected?

Five new Metroids, all like Super Metroid but in beautiful hand-drawn 2D art style. They will all be for 3DS and they will all have two years of free story DLC.

DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING!

Apparently, the have devs and industry people there for some type of Q&A stuff, too. He might bring NOTHING.

So DO NOT EXPECT ANYTHING. I will not tolerate any insane meltdowns because someone expected 5 new games.

Perfect. We posted at the exact same time, too! :D

I'm expecting Wii Fit Trainer in Smash level of awesomeness

Hoping for Zelda U bomb though!
