Persona 4: Dancing All Night announced for Vita

Disappointing to see Persona fans not happy with the Vita Spin Off. The Vita is becoming harder and harder for me to ignore and as someone that played Persona 3 and not 4 this Vita spin-off has me genuinely excited as I love Persona music.

Looking forward to both the 3DS game and Vita game more than the true title coming out on the PS3.

Honestly, with this and the fighting game it looks like Atlus is trying to 'have something for everyone.' I think fans of a series should be happy about more people being exposed to the thing that they love.

Maybe that's just me?

You don't have to throw stuff in like "that is objectively true" or whatever when making your arguments. It just pisses people off and continues to derail threads because you pat yourself on the back. You've said whatever you want to say, that's enough. Move on.

You have the right to do this, of course, but in this case, it's not a good look. I am expressing a simple disappointment many in the fanbase have about this Vita game, and it's for exactly why I said it. Why that line of conversartion is arbitrarily allowed to be shut down is something you have the right to do, but it doesn't make sense to me here. Not that it has to, of course.

Why? Both dev teams probably got to choose the system they were most comfortable with. Obviously, the EO team would go 3Ds and the Miku team would be Vita.

Eh I'm just a bit bitter that the Vita at least didn't get both.

I'll get this dancing game if it has P3 music.

I'm completely with you on wanting the 3ds rpg to be on vita as well, but I don't think this game is a grave sin or anything. Its not like they are making this instead of rpgs. They just aren't making the rpgs on as many platforms as they probably should.

Now when I say I'm a fan of Persona games, I'll have to add the caveat, "Well not THAT Persona game! ...No no, the other ones aren't like that! Yes I'm serious!"

Thanks Fatlus.

i wonder what other exciting persona 4 spinoffs atlus can make

persona 4: the fishing. based on the sega bass fishing engine. set during the school camping trip, the investigation team starts a fishing competition after they hear tell of a legendary fish. teddie makes a lot of jokes about being a bear, because catching fish. the fishing store owner who tells them about the legendary fish turns out to be a ghost or a japanese god of fishing or whatever

Do you always end your sentences with very unsubtle jabs? Because I don't think people will take you seriously if you keep throwing them out like that.

To be fair, Vita is getting a fucking dancing game. Any true fan of Persona is not actually waiting for a dance game to be satisfied

Wrong, I'm a "true" Persona fan, and a rhythm is one of the announcements I was hoping for.

Why wouldn't you want a game that focuses on the amazing music of the Persona franchise?

I don't either. But I don't know what i can express right now because I don't want duckroll to eat me. He has a big appetite about some games :P

Edit: just for the record, i didn't mean to imply 'true fans' can't want a rhythm game. I just mean since mainline Persona games are about dungeon crawling and school life, obviously the logical next extension is not "rhythm game". That's all I meant, apologies if that offended anyone.

Persona 4: Yakuza - Kanji going around beating the shit out of gang members.

I'd imagine quite a lot of the dislike for P4D is stemming from how Atlus presented these announcements, making it seem like the next mainline entry would be a 3DS only dungeon crawler with SD characters and then pretending to end the stream on the announcement of P4D.

As long as the gameplay is as solid as the Project Diva games that Dingo worked on I'll be quite happy. We all know the Persona franchise has fantastic music, under better circumstances people would normally be happy about an announcement like this.

They already did this sidequest in the main game

Amir0x, please stop derailing this thread with nonsense where you try to put yourself in a position to speak for all fans of a series. You're not well equipped to do it here. Persona 4 Dancing All Night is definitely catering to what the fanbase would want, especially in Japan. You just have to accept that, and that it is not for you because your tastes are different.

Some of these "true persona fans" on here are a way too entitled. Each of those Persona games have their audiences and I'm sure that they will sell well and people will enjoy them.

There is really no point in complaining though. We're getting three entirely different Persona games for three different platforms. If you don't like one of them, that's fine, just get one of the others.

I'm just telling you not to double down on every argument before it derails the thread! I'm not going to eat you. :P

Do I care about this game? No! Do I want to see this thread become 3 pages of people arguing with Amir0x about what a "Persona fan" is? NO!!! And we both know that is what will happen if someone doesn't step in! >_<

CoD: Persona

Persona 4: Yakuza - Kanji going around beating the shit out of gang members.

persona 4: sports mix - the hero gets mixed up in one of the sports clubs after they need a star player. all of the investigation team and also s.e.e.s. because whatever somehow get roped into soccer, basketball, and baseball.

Yukari's outfit makes so much sense now:

I just think it's a little unfair because I only really made 2 or 3 posts on the score. I think this implies Amir0x is doomed to always derail a thread! (maybe they are haha)

But fair enough.

I think this game is fine, we got 3 other Persona games that look amazing, and if this one isn't for me, I'm cool with that. I guess I was just poorly trying to express why in this case it seemed like Vita got the short end of the stick :(

Atlus to Vita: "Thanks for telling me you love me everyday, always sucking my dick, and giving money for a year... I'm leaving you for a rich supermodel now, because you're fat and poor. We can still be friends though."

I'll probably get this for the persona 5 release just to celebrate the event, but i doubt i'll really play it.
Maybe i'll launch it once and cry while hearing "Heartbreak Heartbreak" haha.

I can't say i'm not personally highly disappointed by the vita getting this over PQ or P5, especially when it already proved it can sell an RPG decently. But at least it still looks decent if you like those games.

Well to be fair, the Vita already got P4G, while they're trying to put more effort into establishing a fanbase for the 3DS, so I guess that makes sense. This game is also developed by another dev, so it could well be that there are no other internal resources available, and they're out of games to port.

(Okay okay, there's still P3 to port... again! Lol.)

Instead of the characters dancing I wish we got different music videos of the cast doing stuff like fighting shadows and whatnot. Kind of like Project diva.

Amir0x is good people, a little blunt sometimes but everyone has quirks. That being said, you are new here so your post doesn't sound as ridiculous to yourself as it does to me but yeah people tend to read up on what Ami has to say, for better or worse :P

Who's to say there won't be a mixture of some sort? It wouldn't surprise me.

Do we actually know if this game is going to be story canon? I am a bit of Persona whore so I may still get it if I must to learn the story.

I am extremely interested to see how PQ does on 3DS. One, because an EO-inspired Persona side series would be amazing. But two, I think that's smart for Atlus - a Persona mainline game could conceivably appear on Nintendo and Sony platforms at the same time, giving them even more revenues. Might be smart. And SEGA has a very good relationship with Nintendo these days

I want as many songs as possible on this thing. Hopefully they also have the original versions and not just the remixes from the trailer.

I guess I was just poorly trying to express why in this case it seemed like Vita got the short end of the stick :(

What people took offense with is your nonsense about true persona fans not caring about this game. At that point you aren't speaking only about your disappointment, you're speaking for everyone else who may not agree with you. It's as bad as people in FF threads arguing that "true fans" should shit all over 13/love every game unconditionally. Stop trying to be the arbiter over what should or should not be a "true" persona title.

Wrong! I'm a true persona fan, and I was waiting for a corridor shooter. Where is it Atlus!?

They didn't show it in the short trailer, so that clearly means it isn't happening. (Actually I just figured they would stick with 1 type of background event).

I would think the same as well but probably best not to rule out the possibility until we at least get a little more media/info for the game.

But that's not what I was saying. I was saying of all the games we got, it is the one least in line with the series legacy. That is objectively true. The series is about dungeon crawling and high school life.

Obviously therefore it would make sense for part of the fanbase to be less happy about the Vita game being that, since it is the least related to the series legacy.

Then what are your thoughts on Arena? Since when did High School life not revolve around dancing and hormones?

[edit]

Why are you so mad. Atlus is already making a proper RPG. Now they want to go Disney/Star Wars by franchising their property. I don't see why you are getting mad or think this is a fight worth having.

no more guys, duckroll was right. Let's discuss what this game is all about

Do we know if this will play exactly like Project Diva? Are there any extra Persona-related flourishes other than the characters and music? Like, do we form social links that somehow are implemented into the rhythm gameplay? Are dungeons involved (like, rhythm dungeon crawling)?

What aspects of the Persona series can we expect to be retained, versus what will be imported from the Project Diva format?

Who's to say there won't be a mixture of some sort? It wouldn't surprise me.

Wouldn't be very surprising, you also have a bunch of songs in Project Diva where characters are really just standing around and dancing/playing some instruments. Of course, I do think they'll focus a bit more with the dancing for this one than usual, because they got the idol thing going on with Rise and Kanamin, but we'll see.

And on the other debate, I do get what Ami is trying to say, but I just think the Persona series has grown into something much larger than just dungeon crawling, especially after P4. I know a lot of people who loved P4 and yet don't feel compelled to play SMT games, just because of how different the atmosphere and even the focus are in those games.

There are a lot of fans who just wanna see more of the characters, and if it can be done on a fighting game, there's really nothing stopping them from doing the same on a rhythm one. Plus, they're able to explore another strength of the P3/P4 era, which is the "pop" music that a lot of people love, even some who aren't really into RPGs but grew fond of those tunes.

---

I don't know about Social Links, though. On a system level, I don't have much of a clue how they're going to handle the game, other than probably having an arcade-ish mode for people to play through their favourite songs whenever they want, much like PD games work.

I think the story MIGHT be canon, because it sounds like it takes place after P4G's epilogue. The official site says that it takes place in the Summer after P4's case was resolved, and another mystery case occurs - the Mayonaka Stage. It's clearly going to be really silly nonsense though. :P

There you go again with the "dissapointment with the fanbase". I am the fanbase and I'm excited that we got a exclusive/original game.

Better than that, P5 being on PS3 (not on WiiU or Xbone) the chances of a P5 Portable in the future aren't grim.
