Persona 4: Dancing All Night announced for Vita

That's not how I meant it, already explained. So I am moving on.

That's better.

I'd still argue against Persona having to be limited to just those concepts though, especially when the series as a whole has always been renowned for its incredible music. People scoffed when SE announced that they were making a Rhythm game based on Final Fantasy. Then it came out and it was actually pretty good. Why is Atlus/Sega not allowed to do the same with Persona and expand what the franchise is all about?

It's still really early, so for all we know this game might have XP subsystems and all that jazz. I feel like it's a little too soon to label P4D not worthy of being under the Persona umbrella.

So will Rise's dungeon be a stage to dance on, particularly the boss room?

WHY ALWAYS THE PSP AND VITA GETS THE BIZARRE SPIN OFFS????
Did you not see Persona 3 Portable or Persona 4 Golden? P4G was an enhanced port and expanded upon the original version. Also P4A could count since it's a fighting game, & that was on consoles.

I think this is just smart business. This will sell pretty well. And they can release a P4G like game for P5 on vita a few years down the line and get even more sales.

i wonder what other exciting persona 4 spinoffs atlus can make

persona 4: the fishing. based on the sega bass fishing engine. set during the school camping trip, the investigation team starts a fishing competition after they hear tell of a legendary fish. teddie makes a lot of jokes about being a bear, because catching fish. the fishing store owner who tells them about the legendary fish turns out to be a ghost or a japanese god of fishing or whatever

Serious answer:

Persona Director:

A Dark Souls style video editing game where you follow the lives of various highschool students in Japan. You are the director to create either a documentary/mockumentary/reality tv show. You get to decide how these students are represented and each choice has future consequences as weird events unfurl with various students disappearing. With the power of your camera you are able to see into another dimension and get clues about why these students have vanished and why.

While solving this mystery you still have to deal with the day to day realities of being a TV show director as you compete with other directors for access, money and fame with asymetric multiplayer gameplay.

Streaming to you on the PS4.

I think the story MIGHT be canon, because it sounds like it takes place after P4G's epilogue. The official site says that it takes place in the Summer after P4's case was resolved, and another mystery case occurs - the Mayonaka Stage. It's clearly going to be really silly nonsense though. :P

I expect nothing less than this being the final "battle" of the game, with the heroes on one side and their shadows on the other. Teddie will, of course, be the one spinning on his head for most of the battle.

They can! It might be good, I loved Theatrhythm. I was trying to express a more abstract point about why some of the fanbase might have considered this game on Vita the "short end of the stick" compared to what 3DS and PS3 just got. But as I said, it's derailed the thread and duckroll was right (now confirmed to be SO right :P), so I'd like to continue this conversation instead:

Amir0x said:
Do we know if this will play exactly like Project Diva? Are there any extra Persona-related flourishes other than the characters and music? Like, do we form social links that somehow are implemented into the rhythm gameplay? Are dungeons involved (like, rhythm dungeon crawling)?

What aspects of the Persona series can we expect to be retained, versus what will be imported from the Project Diva format?

"ports"

And P3P is a horrible version of P3.

The 3DS game is a complete new RPG.

We get a fanservice Miku clone.

And on the other debate, I do get what Ami is trying to say, but I just think the Persona series has grown into something much larger than just dungeon crawling, especially after P4. I know a lot of people who loved P4 and yet don't feel compelled to play SMT games, just because of how different the atmosphere and even the focus are in those games.

I sometime have the mixed feeling as bold part too when an established franchise goes to another genre. I'm not sure should we call it milking or expansion of the userbase. As for Persona I like fighter and rhythm game, but it is just a coincidence, so that some people just don't want to see them included within Persona series. However I think we have seen that being done in this industry so many times.

A more pertinent question is what type of game do people want. After I saw what happened with dotHack I'm leery of any game franchise branching off story elements into other games. But without a story or rpg elements in this dancing game I think it would be a disservice to how the Persona universe has been built up.

Well, keep in mind that this is similar to P4A (or P4U for Japan) in that it's not actively developed by internal Atlus staff. It's a collaboration with another developer which has actual experience in music games like this. So I don't really think it's going to have any RPG mechanics at all. There'll probably be some crazy wacky "story" for fans though. Lol.

There might be some sort of story but I doubt any RPG elements are going to make it in.

Also, I don't care what they do as long as Funky Student makes an appearance.

so I'd like to continue this conversation instead:

Gotta wait for more info mang. We're still in the "this is the game we're making" phase. I'm curious about all of that too, but this is kind of like the debut trailer for P4A which was slim on info/details about the game other than "Persona fighting".

The 3DS game is a complete new RPG.

The 3DS game is a fanservice EO clone.

The Vita game is a complete new rhythm game.

I can play this game too!

Oh yeah, I'm not seriously expecting any in-depth RPG mechanics, but even P4A had mechanics that were loosely based on stuff from the RPGs. Dingo isn't limited to the "Project Diva" framework for this title, so who knows what we'll get in the end.

Fair enough. Since these games had articles in Famitsu looks like, I was wondering if there was more info in that article than we'd see from the trailer. The trailer just seems typical rhythm game, press right button to tune of the song.

Damn its like killing two birds with one stone.

Giving a game to the Vita library but at the same time mocking the fanbase on the Vita lol.

The difference is that the fanbase that the Persona series have would choose any day of the year an EO clone than a fucking rythm game.

Seriously, though:
Can someone please explain to me, why this would be mocking Vita-owners or how this is awful/just a "fucking rhythm game"?
Did you also whine, when P4A was announced?
Rhythm games are an awesome genre. Did you never get to play a good rhythm game?
I really don't get it.

why does it have to be an either/or thing.

The Vita has P4G, and P4D.

The 3DS hasn't had anything, despite a vastly larger userbase.

If history means anything, Atlus will release a portable/expanded version of Persona 5 eventually, which the 3DS will most likely be totally unable to run. The Vita can run PS3 assets in it's sleep, so will almost certainly see it.

The more people (that is, 3DS owners) that get exposed to persona and pick up Persona 5, the better it is for everyone.

It's funny seeing the first pages for all of these announcements since I didn't stay up to see them. Every response is "f you that's not Persona 5 wtf is this shit!", whereas my response was waking up to a ton of awesome Persona news. I'm honestly excited for each of these games for various reasons since they're all different game types.
- Fighting game sequel: Fighters are my favorite genre and I loved the last one, day 1.
-Dungeon crawler: Never got into EO but loved SMT4 on DS. Reminds me a bit of that Tales dungeon crawler and Four Warriors of Light which I thought were both merely decent but the presentation of this is fantastic and I love these characters.
-Dancing game: I enjoy rhythm games (though Miku isn't for me) and love the music in the series. Vita got the best version of my favorite jrpg in forever (P4) so they can put whatever they want on it.
- Persona 5 PS3: Got a PS4 but no way I was going to get rid of my PS3, too many good games coming and I own already. Persona games are never cutting edge in graphics, but presentation. No problem whatsoever it's on PS3 and not 4.

So yeah, barring previews/impressions any of these games being lackluster I'm very hyped about what's been presented.

That was also my reaction, glad I went to sleep.

What's with the weird shading on Narukami's nose? I think they've tried to kind of draw a shadow on it, but it just looks silly.

It's kind of hilarious when you think that this is probably the best graphics that the P4 team will ever be in.

If you guys think of this a Meguro Theatrhythm then it actually makes you excited. I pray this will have the P3 OST.

This is exactly why I decided that I'm interested.

I think the remixes won't be by Meguro though. He has more important things to do.

I-is this all the teasers lead up to?

not sure what you mean by "Is this all."

the teasers led up to:

Persona 4 Arena 2/Ultra Suplex Hold on PS3
Persona 4: Rhythm Game on Vita
Persona 4: EQ side game/fantasy mashup for 3DS
Persona 5 announcement for Ps3.

That's a lot of stuff, not sure what else people could want from atlus.

We're getting a new console Persona and 2 spin offs on 3 platforms .... and yet I'm seeing shot firing all over the place

Maybe Megaten fanbase are too divided ...

or maybe its just the usual drive by shit post

.

I actually think a Persona rhythm game makes a lot of sense. The music is spectacular, why not let it be the star of its own game?

As a fan of Persona, Shoji Meguro and rhythm games I say "Bring it on!"
