Atlus's Persona event was the best hype-train I road from the start to the sweet end.

There was so much showmanship and confidence on Atlus's side.

I'm so used to these companies come up so short on hype like Square and their "Please be excited".

Basically what you just said is that you care more about the platform than the game. If you want to play Persona 5,then you'll use the platform it's on to play it. Persona 4 was released for PS2 in 2008, 2 years after the PS3 came out, and people still played and enjoyed it and it managed to get pretty popular.

I waited to play persona 4 on vita...I am sure it will be popular, but no way in Hell am I going back to last gen over a year into the cycle.

I will be THAT guy...i was overall extremely disappointed with pretty much everything. 3DS got the at least decent game, while Vita gets a dancing game(i know some people enjoy them, but come on). Vita seems like it would have gotten the other one for being a more "hardcore" handheld.
God help us all if the dark shadow of the console wars has begun looming over handhelds.

Yeah, I'm impressed they pulled it off.

These things usually don't end well. So, for a mysterious teaser website they created two months ago to culminate into a 72 hour countdown with Midnight Channel elements from Persona 4 for internet folk to dig through, which ended with three game announcements and one arcade-to-console port, they did good.

This is Atlus, though. I won't be nearly as confident if another Japanese company tries to do the same.

Vita seems like it would have gotten the other one for being a more "hardcore" handheld. I do not care at all about the arena game, didnt even play the first one. 5 being only on ps3 is devastating. If it does not get a worldwide release in winter 2014, we are looking at a potential 2015 ps3 exclusive game. Will anyone care about last gen games in 2015? i know I certainly wont. I am probably selling my ps3 after the last of us dlc comes out. We have had enough time with the ps3, and they choose to release persona 5 over a year after people start to forget about...idk, doesnt make much sense to me. They could have AT LEAST made persona 5 on vita after how well golden did.

heh, "devastating" Yeah, I'm sorry I have a PS4 in my house right now and we are still running field tests but it appears that the PS3 does not automatically brick or spontaneously combust when it is within close proximity of the PS4.

It was a pretty awful event. I would have preferred they not done i, quietly announced Persona Q and the dance game, and announced Persona 5 six months from now when they would actually have something to show.

Actually, I think if they had announced Q or the Dance game without pairing them with the P5 announcement, people would have lost their shit even worse. At least this way, people only had to panic about it for a few minutes.

People, don't forget how few console JRPGs we get these days. Don't forget how many Japanese devs have gone mobile-only. Don't forget what happened to Breath of Fire, and where Dragon Quest seems to be going. To get not one, but four announcements for a series, all of them on traditional consoles/handhelds with nary a mobile game in sight...this doesn't happen anymore.

It was the rare case of a hype train not going off a cliff by the end of the show, unlike a lot of press conferences this year and despite all signs (all the P4 stuff used in the marketing) seemingly indicating Atlus was not able to escape the Persona 4 universe five years after its release.

But now that P5 is official I also realize there are no more games (or at least sequels) that I will be this hyped about for a long long time.

I didn't watch any of it, but did the teasers of subway stations and street signs pay off at all in what they showed today?

It's really funny. Without a P5 reveal, the other games simply existing was pissing me off to no end, but post-reveal, they're all the icing on the cake. If PQ turns out well, I'll be more than happy to pick it up.

Why are you so averse to last gen? It's clearly not the visuals or anything if you're willing to play it on Gaikai.

I would rather sell my ps3 and get at least something back for it now, rather than wait until 2014/maybe 15 for one game that I want...then get like 5 dollars for it when im done. Why would I want a potential money maker as a paper weight for over a year? I could use that money for next gen games and move on.

It was pretty much up to my expectations, and then some more.

Think about it, a japanese company delivering on a countdown with not 1, but FOUR ***non-mobile*** games.

I wonder what are the chances we'll get more P5 info in this week's famitsu?

WTF. Do you care about the game or the platform? PS3 is the platform that makes the most sense for Atlus especially in Japan. You're just being stupid and your reason is ridicules.

I almost rage sleeped when they were showing the dance game. I initially thought the Persona 5 trailer was playing in the background but they were trolling us at the start of the event.

I'm so glad I slept and didn't bother tuning in with everyone. Reading the separate game threads was fucking pathetic, but so, so good now that everyone who complained looks like an idiot. This is probably my favorite Carnival of Stupid. Thanks, Atlus.

I also can't roll my eyes any harder at the people who are complaining that this is on PS3. What did you guys expect? It's been in development since 2010 (or, rather, we got confirmation that it was in development that year). And is everyone having selective memories when it comes to Persona 4's release date? How do you guys breathe.

I'm glad it's PS3 because that means I can play it when it releases, and not bother with the PS4 till way, way later.

Yeah I would say this countdown junk catered to the worst elements of the fanbase and internet culture so I wasn't really pleased on that end. The games themselves are fine I suppose, nothing very exciting. My PS4 purchase is now delayed even further, but I'm happy that this past generation will at least get a second Megaten RPG (fourth if you count the Devil Survivors). Didn't really expect so little P5 info, development issues must have been pretty rough. Very happy that these announcements happened while I was sleeping, glad I didn't need to waste my time.

Potential money-maker? Hahahaha ok, how much do you plan to get for it after the last of us dlc drops and you beat it? Like $50?

If getting some next gen money is more important to you than P5, go ahead. But personally I'd take P5 over any next gen games.

They couldnt at least make a vita version in 2 years? will be 3 years by release

I totally rode this train so hard. I still can't fathom how they decided on the route they took--I mean, either Atlus thinks everyone loves the idea of Chibi Crossover Persona and Persona X Miku, or Atlus is making two games it's pretty sure lots of its fans will hate just for the amazing trolling--but whatever. I couldn't believe the way the announcements unfolded, and I mean that in the best possible way.

(I just wish it wasn't at 6am my time!)

There will be some type of definitive version at some point, but what is your point on that matter now? It's not like they are going to announce P5 and then say "and P5: Crimson Edition will be out on the PSVITA2 in 2016!" That's not how you market.

Pretty much. I'm not in a hurry for next gen and I can't wait to play P5 on my PS3. Still, I hope for a speedy localisation as the release window is farther off than I anticipated.

They can barely make a PS3 release in three years.

Really, what were you expecting? What major 60+ hour rpg had a two versions on two entirely separate proprietary engines with the size of a company like Atlus?

Wish I could of joined the hype train, but I've really struggled to enjoy the Persona series, crazy as that sounds. I've given pretty much very game in the series a shot, and it's never grabbed me :(

thats not what I am looking for. I just want a vita port. Several games have done it, its nothing new. It could even have cross buy/play.... If a definitive version ever does come out, I will absolutely buy it though.

My heart couldn't take it. I fell so low with their trolling that I could only eh once we finally got Persona 5. We knew it was coming, but....I thought I was witnessing franchise seppuku.

But now I'm over it, got my positive think back on, and the games don't look terrible. Just....niche. Very niche. What probably disappointed me most was just Persona 5's reveal being a teaser. I was hoping for a trailer.

The meltdowns were a perfect mix of embarrassing and hilarious, but I wish they had more to say about P5. A little disappointing in that regard.

The teaser didn't really say anything I didn't already expect, so I was hoping for a few pieces of concept art or something at least. Hopefully that's not too far off.

I can't believe the other games got media, but the one most care about gets absolutely nothing, other than its coming out in late 2014 in Japan.

Hmm, I did read your last post wrong. Thought you were looking for the Vita Golden to the PS2's P4 already. Yes, it could have been cross buy for the vita but it looks like they never even had that card on the table. They did switch development from the PS3 to the PS4 and then back to the PS3 (word on the street) but its understandable why they had to come to that decision.

When the 55:555 came on screen, my heart almost stopped. And whats up with low quality presentation? Were the models running on ps2?

How does it compare to P4's reveal? I recall there were minute long videos before it was released, but I wasn't involved until it was critically praised. Well anyway, they still have >1 year left to dump related material to keep players excited, such as Famitsu issues and youtube videos.

And whats up with low quality presentation? Were the models running on ps2?

Teddie was, lol.

"OMG HYPE PERSONA 5"

"FUCK YOU ATLUS YOU BACKSTABBING FUCKS"

"lol Persona 5 was never going to be on 3DS, love you Atlus"

We've been waiting 5 years. They show some chibi EO spin off and a Miku dancing game. Get that shit outta here, they knew we were waiting for P5. They just wanted to see the reactions.
