Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I'm so bummed. The Navy Exchange had mailed out a flier of Christmas deals and listed the Mario/Luigi Wii-U bundle for $199. I was there as soon as the store opened and they had not received a shipment of Wii-U systems.

To make matters worse, they put up a sign that said the flier's price was a mistake and that they would not honor it.

So yet again, I wasted my time by traveling to the Navy Exchange and yet again come away empty handed. I never learn.

I already picked up one Nyko Pro Commander. It's a solid controller, especially for the $13 Amazon is currently asking.

I'm debating ordering three more even though the only game I own right now that needs multiple is Super Mario 3D World. I guess they'll be good to have around when Smash and Mario Kart come out...but do I really need to worry about that yet?

Help, GAF!

Link, for reference.

Also going to sell of my two normal Wiimotes on eBay and pick up 2 WiiMote+ so I have four of them. All in black to match my system. Ah yeah.

Especially since HR is now best played on PC.

Not anymore. Now HR is best played on WiiU with the Director's Cut ;)

I'm going to choose between 2 games tomorrow, pikmin 3 of Deux HR, Pikmin would be my first entry into the series but HR would be a replay, although I was really really enjoyed the game, my.mind is telling me to take the safe option.

Easy choice: Pikmin 3. You'll be able to get Deus Ex for cheaper sooner and you already played the original version so there's no rush.

Alright, if I go with Pikmin, is the gamepad all I need? Or do I need a Wii remote+

Pikmin 3 NEEDS to be played with a Wiimote+ and Nunchuk (plus GamePad). It's not required but it's like saying "you don't need mouse look on a PC, you can just use the arrow keys!"

Played my first physical game today- ZombiU

Holy hell is that drive loud! Is there something wrong with my system? It's squeaking and squacking as loud as the original Wii!

Well I cant help you on the loud drive, but how is ZombiU? Im debating on picking it up.

All the directors cut stuff, including the tablet stuff, got added into the PC version as well.

It was a real interesting move for Squeenix to do that but...::Shrugs:: they did it and made it cheap.

I played Pikmin 3 exclusively on the Gamepad and it controlled fine.

Obviously the Remote could make it control even better though.

I got up to the first boss and just got frustrated. The lack of precision with the gamepad controls is simply awful. Thankfully, the remedy was already on my coffee table.

If you don't mind refurbished, Nintendo has a good deal.

Its fantastic. Incredibly immersive, really reallty tightly designed game. Be warned though, it can ve a very tense game.

One of the hidden gems of wii u lineup with lego cities IMO

Plugin headphones to the pad and change the sound options in the zombiu menu. This combined with playing alone at night is the true way to enjoy zombiu.

GAF...

I have a confession...

This year I have spent way too much on technology...

SonyA57, iMac, 3D Tv, iPhone 5C, PS4, and I'm going to get an HDTV for my brother for his birthday...

But I really really want a Wii U. I know I shouldn't get one because I've already spent so much on tech, and I will never have time for it, but I want it so bad...

If you get some of the games from the post behind yours, it's a given you WILL find the time.

I say what I always say to posts like this: when you're playing 3D World I really doubt you are having any second thoughts about your purchase.

I had no problems with the controls on the gamepad, I got used to them pretty quick, the (R) is very useful if you want to move the cursor without moving your character.

The PC and 360 versions don't have smartglass/tablet support yet. Plus these are downscaled versions and don't include the full feature set from the original Wii U version for which they were designed.

What do you guys think of Mass Effect 3 on Wii U? I can get it for 12 bucks. Is the multiplayer completely dead?

Bought it a couple of weeks ago. Popped it in to check out the multiplayer since I never was a XBL gold member to try it on my 360 version. Found a match immediately and played for an hour or so with a full party.

Worth it, definitely. Besides, it's a great port. Straight Right knows what they're doing. I didn't check but they might have made the first console multiplayer game with push-to-talk voicechat since the touch screen doubles as a big ass mic-button during multiplayer. No always-on nonsense where you hear every dog bark if you want to talk to people. Touch the screen with your thumb and blabber away!

I got my Wii U in the mail today and I have to admit....this thing is pretty slick(this is coming from someone who's been playing on the ps4 daily the last few weeks) .

But this system update.... Ugh wtf Nintendo.

I've got Zombi u waiting for me at home from amazon and you've given me the motivation to pick up some new ear buds on the way home.

All this time I didn't even know there was an input!

I've now used all the next gen controllers and while I dont like much about the gamepad, it (and the Pro) have the best analog sticks of the 3 new console controllers. Perfect mix of tension and size, which I wouldnt have guessed since it's the only one that's not concave on top. That little circular ridge around the outside makes slipping off a non-issue.

Can you imagine being a kid and waking up to all that on Christmas morning?

After all the crying "But I wanted a PS4" bullshit I know for sure I would've ended up quite happy.

I would have killed for that as a child. I remember the first day I got SNES like it was yesterday. I also remember getting my N64 too. Good memories. Now I have to buy my own consoles :(

I never had the opportunity as a kid to get that "console for Christmas" experience.

But I had plenty of "awesome surprise Christmas Nintendo game" experiences.

Like I remember unwrapping Mario 3, Battletoads and Punch Out. Good times indeed.

I buy all my consoles etc now too man. Bad times indeed. =(

Well it´s an output. ^^

But congratulations. :D Don´t forget to change the sound options in zombiu otherwise you would miss half the audio. Too bad many people don´t even know half the options of the gamepad. Two tips for zombiu:
Zombies are trying to follow you through small holes. Use it to your advantage.
Quick exit the backpack by tapping the analog stick.

It's great. Not without flaws and obviously rushed, but the foundation is simply fantastic. A word of advice though: If you ever get to play this, don't play the game when you're drunk or unfocused. If you die, you're dead. It's harsher than Demon's Souls/ Dark Souls in that regard. You get a single chance to retrieve your inventory, but all your stats are gone for good.

And the game looks amazing. Well, sometimes. Exceptional art direction, great lighting, incredible use of post processing. There are moments when the stuff displayed on your TV looks like concept art. And that's no hyperbole. I rarely do this, but there were moments when I stopped and just took in the vistas. It helps that the game is always dark as fuck and has a dirty, unfocussed look, of course.

Ok the internet browser on this thing is amazing.

Now that I'm actually using the Wii U, I'm a believer :O (I still hate the name though)
