Durante pls: Metal Gear Rising PC won't support higher resolutions than 1080p

Damn! I wish I saw this thread earlier. If this issue was going to be the case, then I probably wouldn't have double dipped to get it on PC.

For serious. I'm definitely not running a Titan yet I've been using 1600p for years.

Yeah. it's just another case of Japanese dev been really way behind and know nothing about modern PC gaming and that people play on 1440+ for ages now (they are not even up to date with what most powerful GPU right now and it seems they don't even know about the cheap AMD r9 290 cards since they are still talking about Titan). It's really sad.

Was this already posted?

Which makes no sense because this won't even need a D3D9 injector in the first place. If it's not in the .ini, first one to find the hex address for the resolution gets a cookie. Which I'm gonna try if that's the case!

Either that or they did some insane weird stuff like locking the internal buffer to 1080p instead.

Why fix your game when you can let other do it for you, subscribing to the Bethesda way of doing business.

he's just one man. It did seem like he wanted more, but business realities...

A bit odd for him talking about people modding it before the game is even out. are PR folks on vacation atm?

Heh I really think developers should stop using twitter outside of release date/trailer announcements. It does them more harm than good :P.

While I think it's very cool for Durante to be recognized like that, it is a bit sickening that devs are now basically asking him to fix their games... for free.

And as far as I can tell Durante has done these things as a hobby, it's almost becoming a job. He may feel some unwanted pressure now and that sucks.

I play at 1080p so this might not affect me but it's unfortunate for 1080p+ gamers. Resolution locking in 2013 is just not done.

The reason I say this might not affect me is because now I'm worried that this might be 720p upscaled to 1080p or some such malarkey. It's so difficult to get a straight answer from devs about this stuff these days. Bought a $20 gift coupon on Amazon to buy the game but I'm not sure if I want to.

edit - and then I refresh this page and see the last tweet. SMH.

BTW, if Platinum actually did their damned jobs properly you wouldn't have to give Durante beers to add features to your game that should already be there.

That said, this is clearly not AS horrible an issue as Dark Souls or Deadly Premonition. 1080p does cover a substantial portion of the PC audience (though as a 1920x1200 user, I am not one of them).

Did From or the devs from Deadly Premonition acknowledge Durante's work? I really hope it doesn't scare japanese devs releasing PC versions of their games and they start paying more attention to what PC gamers expect.

But this doesn't make any sense... it's easier to implement proper support and there's no need for D3D9 injectors in this case either. At worst we just do a bunch of hex-edits on release.

There is absolutely 0 need for surveys, QA, and testing. You request the display list to D3D, you put those instead of your own "resolution" list, and you're done.

If what they say is right, they spent far more work on this than they actually needed to.

This is very strange, why impose the arbitrary limit?

Exactly, say goodbye to ultra smooth 120hz.

It's almost becoming a trend when you have some developer be all ''we care about pc gaming, we got the 1080p and 60fps'' and in the end you know exactly how good the port is because the numbers they use will be what the framerate and resolution are capped at.

At least we have progress. Before, it was 720p and 60FPS, maybe in 2014 Japanese developers will impose 1440p and 120FPS locks for some reason.

They did, yes.

Durante should do this and then put up a shingle. Hey Japan, Goddammit, fucking hire Americans to localize your games. We can make your jokes funny, we can make your idioms fit, we can explain things and make your games better, and we work for sake and schoolgirls.

I see 2 situations:
1) The internal buffer is locked to something we're not being told about, which would make far more sense as to why it'd be "hard".
2) They don't know how to properly query the resolutions from the D3D9 driver and hardcoded their own resolution list, like some odd ports already do sometimes. Very trivial to fix, probably would take you a few minutes given there's already code for an interface for selecting resolutions.

Are Japanese developers really that clueless that they are so mystified by resolution options? I just can't believe it. At least it's better than Dark Souls, I guess.

My 780 will be here today. I am not super rich top end but i could play almost everything on high/ultra pre this card and now with this card. Low standards? 1080p is low standards now? hyberbollllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
1080p is low standards. It is not a hyperbole. I can understand if someone said 4K is low, but 1080p has been the standard for video and PC gaming for almost a decade now.

Utterly disgusting this, fuck this developer.
Basically this dev is just saying "Durante pls fix"

Wow you guys are overreacting to that tweet. Kellams only meant that in good fun, c'mon!

Issues like this are important to some of us and seeing a dev taking it so lightly is kind of infuriating.

This isn't the same as, say, Mass Effect 3 players calling for a new ending. Implementing arbitrary resolution settings in a modern 3D game is SUPER EASY and takes practically 0 effort.

Please stop being so pedantic people, it's platinum's first foray into the pc scene, it's going to be a culture shock for them to be honest, they are used to the set structure of hitting resolutions and framerate based on set hardware.

I am positive that any downside will be corrected by the people in the community, the more they get involved in the pc space they will realise what the community expects from them and adapt in the future hopefully.

"IF I CAN'T PLAY THIS GAME AT 120 FRAMES PER SECOND AT NEEDLESSLY LARGE RESOLUTIONS THEN EVERYONE AT PLATINUM CAN GO TO HELL!"

I fully understand why people would want these options, but some of the responses in here are bordering on the childish side.
