Has Watchdogs lost all of its momentum for 2014?

It has lost a ton of momentum, but I do think that Ubisoft could put together a trailer of gameplay that reminds everybody of exactly what they fell in love with all that time ago. WatchDogs has tremendous promise as a game concept, and though Ubi is not beyond squandering that talent and ingenuity, the team has the potential to pull it off. I really hope that when the game is ready, the fanbase will come back to it.

Yeah, because I heard it was a hot mess and not coming together well.

Shame because I was super hyped for the Wii U version of all things.

Apparently, mock review scores were pretty low. Hopefully, the delay will be used wisely and the IP won't be stillborn. You guys can bet your sweet neckbeard asses that there will be a big marketing push when the game is closer to release, and you will salivate once again.

They showed WAY too much of it IMO. It was kind of ridiculous how every Sony event was accompanied by a new snippet of watch_dogs. By the time TGS came around I was already sick of it. And the more I saw of it the more I saw the general downgrade it made from its initial with each new gameplay footage. I still have it preordered and am still super excited for it. Hopefully the delay has helped the game for the better.

I don't think it'll be released until late September at the earliest so it's not on my radar at the moment. They're probably going dark until E3.

I really wonder if they should have delayed this game period. Look at AC, a title that had similar hype and launched to mixed reviews and still sold through the roof. And considering how poorly received almost all the tentpoles were this fall, it probably wouldn't have looked that bad regardless.

A Ubisoft open-world game with a bunch of tick-boxes, hand-holding up the ass and holy shit hax? No, I doubt that its lost all of it. Maybe some because the game kept looking more and more downgraded and time went by. AC III didn't help much.

Any time that you see a consumer poll for games people are looking forward to it's almost always high on the list. Most recently it was voted the second most anticipated 2014 game on the PSblog (ahead of MGSV and Destiny). The delay is one of the smartest things they've done because it shows that they're serious about turning it into a new IP. They knew that they couldn't pull another Assassin's Creed, which felt more like a tech demo than a fully realized game, so they delayed it to make it a better game.

I feel like the hype train for it was pretty much destroyed after the delay. We haven't heard anything about it since then.

I have a feeling it may end up having poor sales because it's just completely dropped off a lot of people's radar.

I'm personally still interested. I'd like to see what the differences between versions are, and how exactly it'll utilize the Gamepad since it seems like a game that was made with a second screen in mind.

Let's face it, it didn't really that much momentum to lose after its disappointing E3 presence this year.

Good point. AC2 was such a vast improvement over the first game.

some people on ubi talked about it?

I remember the thread where it announced the delay, that the "mock reviews"(a concept that i didn't know that existed) destroyed the game.

i really think that they wanted to give space to AC 4 and polish the hell out of the game,

Revealed far too early after the delays IMO, AC4 should not have been planned to release alongside it in the first place. Was never too interested in it tbh beyond the grafix

Dec 19,2013, UBI RELEASED new screens.

Debuted wiyth amazing graphics and mystery about the gameplay.

Arrived at e3 with less impressive graphics and gameplay that didnt really show a lot.

I still want the game but ii prefer to have low expectations and be surprised than be over hyped and potentially disappointed.

Trying to go cross gen ruined this game. Something tells me the graphic and memory limitations of the 360/PS3 kept this game from being as good as it could have been.

I was looking forward to it alot but The Division has my attention now.

Do think its better for the delay to polish and such.

I heard about those Mock reviews. It was getting Around the 5's or 6's out of a ten scale. I'm curious how they are going to overhaul the graphics and physics. When it is re revealed id like them to talk about what significant changes have made. It should be clear IMO at least when they show it people can see it looks different.

Definitely reduced my hype, unless they come back strong enough I may just wait a few months after it releases to see where it stands.

This game is doomed. There was a fair deal of marketing in the summer of this year, and I was going to pick this one up. Now, there will be bigger, and better things coming along, I'm sure. Once you kill a game's momentum, its hard to get it back.

Yep, I think the press and gamers would eat the game alive if it felt like the original AC in terms of content. AC had the benefit of a wow factor because of the parkour and it seemed that was enough to get the past the shaky first release. With GTAV coming out UBI knew that they would get no free passes just because the game looked pretty.

With all that said, I think it's important for them to try to make a big splash whenever they decide to show the game again. I'm not sure how they'll do that since everyone will always be thinking back to the E3 2012 demo, and there's no way they can surpass that since we've seen a lot of next-gen games already.

I think this games momentum just died with the concept when people started to realize that hacking as a game mechanic wouldn't be very fulfilling. Honestly, I liked the game because it looked pretty and I fell into the hype of the concept like everybody else but it seems so incredibly derivative right now. Could be just me though.

After GTA V I could care less. Hype for any open-world title decimated until they can prove to make an open world and open world experience close to as good, and I never really was interested in the Watch_Dogs world in the first place, though some of the effects were cool.

I lost a lot of interest when it turned out it was an Assassin's Creed-a-like that had your moral social crusader gunning down dozens in the name of justice. I understand why it's like that - because the focus groups said "needs more shooting," but I've got such a backlog that I feel I can pass. I'll probably just borrow the Wii U version off my brother if he gets that, rather than buying the PS4 one.

On PS4 browser, so can't copy, but googlle watchdogs screen from the 19th of this month.

Well then.

Nah. The most important time to market a game is in the lead up to its release. Ubi can buy storefront display space and ads on bus shelters anywhere and everywhere that matters. Hype won't be an issue.

I think so. It was the best looking game of a mediocre next-gen launch line up, I don't really have any interest in it anymore personally.

I agree that GTA killed the hype. Watchdogs all of a sudden just doesnt seem fun (or GTA IV-esque) after playing V.

I wished they showed off more of the open world. So far it seems very very shallow. People might be expecting it to be as big as GTA 5 and be disappointed.

At this point they need to re-announce it with a new message. Given the huge delay I really have to wonder what the current gen ports are gonna be.
Yep, because the gameplay they showed before the delay was pretty underwhelming so I hope they re-reveal it and build up the hype again.

I'm glad the game got delayed, personally. I'm hoping it turns out to be a fun game and not a reskinned Assassin's Creed.

If it does indeed end up being a good game, I'll be in for the Wii U version.

UbiSoft never gave me a reason to be excited in the first place, other than the graphics of the initial reveal trailer.

There'll be a resurgence of interest once they show something new again. Obviously people aren't going to be wasting their energy talking about and hyping a game that's nowhere near release when there's no information or anything new to talk about.

I fucking hate Assassin's Creed and Watch_Dogs just looks like more shallow Ubisoft open-world bullshit.

It will sell a metric fuckton.

Ubisoft has brilliantly gotten away with reskinning the same game for like 7 years and have been selling millions of copies every go around.

Yes. Back in the day, Ubisoft used to produce some really inspiring games; Splinter Cell 1, Prince of Persia Sands of Time, Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman 1 and 2. Nowadays, even their "original" IPs are basically re-skinned sequels.
