People who still complain about fighting games being too hard should quit all together and come to terms with the fact they're just shit and whiney people at fighting games. There's no excuse for over 25 years of popular mainstream fighting games to still hard. Games like Tekken Tag 2 have a deep tutorial system which is split into 5 chapters with a story to follow along with to get you into the game. Games like MvC/BlazeBlue/KoF/Street Fighter have trials for you to learn combos. Killer Instinct has an extensive 32 part dojo going over EVERYthing the game has to offer and you can't learn the most basic of button inputs and understanding. It's insulting that fighting games have gotten easier(as a fact) and people want them to be even easier and yet games like StarCraft/DOTA/Gears of War etc maintain that level of high entry play. Street Fighter x Tekken had: easy inputs, gems, assist gems(meaning you didn't even have effing block), pandora, a magic series(press these set of buttons in an order for an easy 1-2-3 combo), preset combos(press these two buttons and string of attacks will play out for you) AND trials to get you into the game and that's still too high for casual gamers. Heck, I'm not even go into the stupidity of X-factor for MvC3.
It's not that these games are hard, it's just you're shit and using excuses(especially in 2014).
Unfortunately, its doubtful the FGC would be into that.
The FGC can't do shit to influence sales. It's a small hardcore community that's very vocal, that's all. The competitive community hated SSB Brawl, yet the game had excellent sales. Same for Naruto games. If anyone wants to try with a new concept for a FG, the worst the community can do is... not buying it, but this won't matter much.
Naw, dude, it's totally the Community's fault for not playing something they don't like or want.
I've beaten Half-Life 2 two times, Episode 1 two times and Episode 2 once. I think they're very average and I can't understand why people are going crazy for the next installment.
.
The same games they've played since the 90's with minor tweaks, a couple new characters/stages, and better graphics?
That's your take, not mine.
Your suggestion would need to garner a new audience. There might be some crossover from the general fighting game community, but on the whole, sounds like nothing I would ever even want to try. I don't want to run around and sneak up on stuff, get health back. That sounds nothing like what I want from a fighting game.
I want more games like Remember Me. I can see the problems with the gameplay and even the story in some places, but dat atmosphere tho.
Nothing surprising. When people like something the way it is, they tend to not want it to change. I still wish J-RPGs were known for beautiful graphics (or at least amazing cutscenes) like during the PS1 era.
The regain health thing though--that's already in fighting games. X-Factor regains health in MvC3. When you swap characters in TTT2 they regenerate health. "Clashes" in Injustice can help you regain health. When I said regain health I didn't mean anything more drastic or game-changing than that. It wouldn't be something you could overuse or take advantage of.
Daggerfall is the best RPG ever created
Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim all suck
steam is a terrible thing for pc gaming and should be boycotted
Half Life 2 was mediocre at best
(nevertheless, I kinda still respect quite a lot both Gabe and valve)
I'm a PS3 owner with no interest in TLOU. That's a result of not being someone who is into narrative games, and the gameplay doesn't look appealing enough to me (not really my kind of game).
Well I just finished the game. IMO I agree and disagree on both the visual part of your statement and the overall game.
I think the game looks nice. It has colorful visuals and has a geniune Mario atmosphere. But at the same time I do get the feeling of "been there, done that" in terms of the artstyle. I really wish they'd deviate from the "1st world is grassy world, 2nd zone is desert, 3rd ice/beach, etc a bit. I think that's why I always enjoyed 3D Mario games prior to 3D Land/World, because each of them felt refreshing in terms of the environments. I will say that looking at the quality of the assets/textures I wouldn't be surprised if it started out being a Super Mario 3D Land sequel (for the 3DS) and development moved to the Wii U.
I don't think the game is bad either (in fact i think it's quite fun). However, I don't think it's a worthy successor to Galaxy, and frankly I think if i had to make a choice I'd rather go back and play Super Mario Sunshine over 3D World. IMO i'd much rather their next 3D Mario be more in the style of SM64 than SM3D
Post like yours, and the poster to which you were responding, that try to "fix" or "change" fighting games are more like those people who think turn-based battles in RPGs are "archaic" and should be taken out of games. There's nothing wrong with turn-based battles, and there's nothing wrong with fighting games. I have a problem when people start saying they want to fix an imaginary problem and then rail at a community to which the "fixes" would never even appeal. Like it's the fault of the dedicated minority that any endeavors would fail. There's a reason that Street Fighter and Tekken have been around for such a long time when games like Psychic Force and Destrega and many others of that ilk (that I actually liked, bought and played) went to the wayside to die. There HAVE been different fighting games and different experiments within the genre. it's not the fault of the community that there are no more. It's not the fault of the community that companies don't attempt to make anymore fighters outside of the existing mold.
I have no problem with somebody taking a competitive template and making something different. Have at it. But there is no reason to suggest that there's something wrong with fighting games as they are just because they aren't trying to reinvent themselves.
I absolutely don't understand replaying games that you think are average. If I play a game I think is average, I wont play it again.... I replay games i think are good or play new games. In my mind, saying you don't like this games and replaying them contradicts itself.
After the hype dies down it'll turn out that sales of the PS4/XB1 have been extremely front loaded and throughout the year it'll eventually end up that they're selling less than the Wii U.
No flame for me shield, just a warm glow of satisfaction of knowing there's a thousand GAF members out there right now saving this post in their 'show this idiot how wrong he is in a year' folder. ^_^
I don't care enough for that, but...I mean. You can't really BELIEVE this, can you?
I buy the "Extremely front loaded" part, but "Will then fall below Wii U levels" is crazy.
So much salt against PC gamers. What did they do to you?PC gamers are not the master race. Graphics are better but still mostly dictated by console development. Only when we start seeing real next gen games on PS4 and XBox One, will we see a big leap of graphics on PC.
Games will be released the same day as the Console versions if you're lucky. Many games are delayed or just held back to be released months later. Some games are crappy last gen versions like NBA 2K14.
Too many exclusive games on Consoles that are not on PC. There are always port begging PC gamers wanting some game to be ported to PC. Then they get all excited when some game is released one year later than the console version.
PC gamers use console controllers to try to emulate the console experience instead of using the traditional keyboard and mouse. PC gamers holding their breath for full feature support of the dual shock 4.
And you don't have to be rich to be a PC Gamer. There is a higher initial investment, but you can still get a very good machine for $700-800. Then you save lots of money over the long run with steam sales and cheap games. Also online play is free.
Also some people experience technical difficulties with graphic drivers and other PC issues that console gamers don't have to deal with.
I know there are many PC gamers now on GAF and it seems to be growing by the day with all the responses I see about how great PC gaming is. So I hope this is not too controversial.
Maybe.I don't care enough for that, but...I mean. You can't really BELIEVE this, can you?

I can't stand MOBAs. For me, it just seemed to creep up one day. I also can't stand the name DOTA. Acronyms, acronyms everywhere! I can't even remember what DOTA even stands for because nobody, even publications, never spell it out.I really hate DOTA2, Fallout, and the Elder Scrolls series.
There's like no worthwhile exclusives on it IMO
Exclusives aren't everything. I like the PS2 way more than the PSone and I could say I don't get all the praise Sony's first console get. It wasn't a bad console obviously, but if you aren't a fan of JRPG, the library wasn't THAT interesting. I agree about the 3DS, tho. The handheld isn't nearly as good as people claim it to be.I will never, never understand the love the PS2 got. There's like no worthwhile exclusives on it IMO, and out of all my systems, has the smallest library. I think we're talking less than a dozen games total here! Not only that, but the hardware is horrid. Do you know the sad part? I kinda feel the same way about the 3DS, but for different reasons.
That's pretty amazing.
Do you not like most kinds of 2D/3D action games? Arcade ports? Any rhythm games? Fighting games? SRPGs?
What genres do you consider it weak at?
I like games.

When people say they think the Last of Us has "hands down" the best shooting mechanics or AI they've ever seen, I think they're tacitly admitting having limited experience with those elements in other games.
There are people that say that?
