Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Anybody know where to purchase Panasonic's ST60 series? I'd like to snag one before they disappear forever. Sears has them on their website but they are not available for store delivery or pick-up within 50 miles of Los Angeles.

Try a local TV shop if you really want one. But it has bad input lag. I wouldn't buy TVs online, by the way, too much hassle to return.

Thoughts about a cheap 1080p TV?

I was thinking about the Samsung UE39F5300. Its fairly cheap and I heard it looks good.

I dont need 3D, and dont care much about Smart TV. Im a little worried about reflections though, because I have a window at the left side of where the TV will stand.
Planning to get a PS4 along with it (thats why im on a budget).

W900a oh my god, so so good for games

Could you expand on this please, I am considering this one, or the VT60.

My time on the TV is split 50/50 between Netflix/Movies and games.

I've had a V10 plasma for 5 years and looking to upgrade, and am seriously considering the Sony for its gaming capabilities.

W950B, comes in 55" and 65".

Nice, thanks! Do you happen to know the main differences, and release date?

;So I have 4 options, cheapest to most expensive:

Sony 850A (802A for NA): - 2538$
http://www.sony.co.in/product/kdl-55w850a (802A model)
Samsung F7500: 3150$
http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UA55F7500BRLXL

Samsung F8000: 3539$
http://www.samsung.com/in/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UA55F8000ARLXL
Sony 950A (900A for NA): 3569$
http://www.sony.co.in/product/kdl-55w950a

It's here in India...so fucking expensive.

I was somewhat ready to pull the trigger on 850A, but then I read it's same as the 802A only different model numbers. And people seem to have many issues with it?

Concerned about active 3D on 950A, but then I don't watch 3D. Hate it.

Hearing good things about Samsung 7500 and 8000 too. But, of course input lag is more than Sony. Not sure how badly that will affect me, I gamed on a Samsung TV before and not being a hardcore gamer I never saw it bothering me.

PQ is top most priority.

GAF HALP!

Help. I've got IR on my VT60. For some reason the McLaren of title menu of FM5 is softly visible when the screen is perfectly dark. The panel only has been on for 117 hours. Currently in the progress of running the Pixel Jogger. After having used the scolling bar for about 2 hours and played some movies, so the panel has got around 8 hours of extra use after I first noticed it.

Any tips would be very welcome.

Welp missed out on the frys special but I took advantage of the current Amazon price. Should have a 55w900 in a few days. Can't wait to get my Bone and PS4 hooked up to it.

Get the Disney World of Wonder Blu-ray and run the pixel flipper. I didn't feel the pixel jogger did anything for my IR.

Yikes bro, I hope you can get it taken care of.

I thought you weren't supposed to game on a plasma til you hit the 400 hour mark?

I can't tell if it's the new tv or the One.
But watching stuff on Hulu/Amazon, especially dark scenes gets all noisy to hell.

How do current projectors fare in gaming now? Anyone here use one?

From what I've been reading, really good. Gaffer kinggroin posted in this thread about the Benq W1080.

I'm planning on getting a Benq W1080st in two months or so. It's $800-$900 that can project an 65inch image from 3 feet away, 100+ inch & bigger image from 6 feet and further. I'm going with the short throw because I have a small living room.

Projectors and gaming are not that common I guess because of lighting issues or fear of buying new lamps but with newer technology and eco modes that can give a lamp 5000+ hours I think it's a good fit. All the reviews I've read about gaming on it have been positive.

So my TV supports simulview, meaning I can play maybe six PS3 coop splitscreen titles fullscreen, with each player's view expanded to fill the screen.

But you need games to be specially coded to support his, and hardly any do. Some other manufacturers have an option that can take any splitscreen image and blow up each side to fill the screen - so liked simulview but works with any split screen game. I think that is a much better solution, and all 3DTVs support side-by-side for TV broadcasts anyway so wouldn't be difficult to add. The only issue would be that your aspect ratio would be stretched, but devs could correct for that easily.nat least you could play full screen without specific, special support which frankly seems to have stopped from Sony anyway

I've got to travel across half the US with my dear Panasonic plasma and I was thinking I might be better off selling it here and then buying something else when I get down there. Anyone got experience with traveling long distance with a plasma? And also if I do sell it, what's a good TV in the $600-1k price range that won't leave me disappointed coming from the greatness that is Panasonic.

How far did your TV travel to get to the store you bought it from? If you can pack it well, it should travel ok - you'll probably look after it better than a delivery driver. And even if you have to spend some money to do it, that will be a lot less than selling and rebuying

Thanks for the tip. Will see if I can find that disc somewhere.

Well the strange thing is I played the game with the HUD disabled, and for some strange reason the title screen has left some IR(that's what I hope it is). It has faded somewhat, so I've got hope that it will fade entirely. I just didn't expect is to be so fragile.

Anyone have any idea why I cant update my youtube app (and I assume some others too) on my w900a? Cant use it because it needs an update but when I click to update, it stays at 0%.

It's just the picture is so Damn good. It has amazing iq and next to zero lag, like I have skyrim pc hooked up right now, and it's beautiful. I'll take some pictures sometime. The colors are vivid and I guess I got lucky as mine has zero issues as far as I can see. I compare this to my brother in laws vt30 which while very nice and has a bit better colors on Blu-ray (thought that's probably due to a 1000 dollar blue ray player he has vs my ps4) the difference is neigh legible to me.

I just got an 802A and I love it. Where did you hear people have "many issues" with it? I did a search in the thread and aside from one person shitting on it, this model is generally praised. Reviews were usually around 4/5 on consumer sites.

I got it and I love it! My eyes must not be good enough to detect the "issues" that people typically have with it.

Samsung is shit. Worse PQ and packed with Gimmicks. Get the Sony.

In some comparisons the f8000 has a superior picture quality. One set will occasionally edge out the other in a specific categories but it is always very close.

900a currently has better input lag.

f8000 is upgradeable in future years via the evo kit.

You really won't go wrong either way...my preference would be the f8000.

that´s the biggest gripe i have with my sony 905 as well. support couldn´t tell me why of course, just that it didn´t do DTS passthrough but only DD5.1 and pcm 2.0.
for ps4 that´s not a big issue, since you can have it put out bitstream DD5.1. With ps3 otoh i had trouble getting the correct sound format to my receiver and settled for an hdmi splitter in the end (picture to TV, audio to AVR).

Yeah, I first noticed it on the NX713 when I tried hooked up my old gaming PC to the TV and realised I was only getting stereo because it wouldn't pass through multi channel LPCM.

At least Sony does Dolby 5.1. Most other companies only pass through stereo.

I don't get it, is there some sort of technical limitation as to why? I thought one of the big bonuses of HDMI was the bandwidth available to pass through multi channel LPCM etc.

That would be perfect if the damn thing had a normal stand, it won't fit on my TV stand because it's close to the edges.

They can be moved inward for smaller stands. Some AVS people who attended CES confirmed this as well.

Under Sound Design...

A new angle on TV design allows for larger speakers and enhanced sound capabilities over traditional LED televisions. The iconic design works with traditional wall mounts, and the adjustable TV stand accommodates large or small tables.

Might be a licensing/cost issue thing?

On so here is my dilemma.

I want a new tv. Key word is want, not need.

I have a three year old samsung 50in plasma and kind of want to grab the 65in vt60 before they are gone as I'm concerned, much like the pioneer, that nothing is gonna come along for years to rival it's quality and in this case, price/performance.

My dilemma is this. Is that the case? I've heard some rumors about sole tvs at CES that are gonna be 4k and deliver some notable improvements and 4k interests me.

If it were you all, would you buy a Panasonic now or wait for this years new crop of supposedly better quality and 4k tvs???

After this year or whatever, when's the next time you think you would buy a tv?

Probably this year or next. I mean I could theoretically wait. I just don't want to jump on the panasonic tomorrow if a 4k tv with good picture quality for a decent price is looking like its right around the corner this year or next.

But like I said I haven't followed ces or any av forums in years and the most I've heard recently is about this new Vizio that is supposed to be very improved and affordable.

Guess what happens on a 4K TV when all of your sources are native 1080p and you have to upscale? It looks like shit. Especially on an LCD.

Just get the VT60.

The Samsung Evo kits are fucking rip offs. $250 + to get snappier apps ? Just buy a Chromecast for $30.

Seriously, don't buy or even suggest the Evo kit. It's a scam and a joke.

This year will most likely be the last for Samsung plasma as well. LCD will never give the same kind of picture.

Grab a VT60 or get a Samsung plasma while you still can. Because once they're gone, you'll be stuck waiting on OLED to reach sane prices.

So me and my wife are moving in August

We were going to wait and get a tv then, but with the Panasonic thing, I don't know if I should wait for august and see what's available, or go ahead and get the vt60 now

I get most of my tech advice from wire cutter

Their recommended tv was the st60, saying the vt60 was a good upgrade but not for the price

But now the VT60 is 1800 at best buy and I'm debating just biting the bullet. I don't think a better plasma for the price will be out

This is probably a super overly asked question and I apologize

I don't think Best Buy has any. When I bought my 60" VT60 last month I went to BB.com first and added it to my cart but then it said it wasn't available for pick up or delivery.

I went through Panasonic direct which ended up being better because I was eligible for a discount through my work.

I would call BB to see if they actually have any in stock. I've heard from a couple people that they had a similar experience as mine. A lot of BB have already sold their display models. Do Not Buy A Display Model ! No matter how cheap. A lot of BB's run ESPN 10 hours a day everyday and most of their plasmas displays have burn in because of it.

Go VT60, you wont regret it.

But if it is your first plasma, be aware that it has to work a few hours before you mess with settings in a big way (contrast and brightness) or game for long hours not giving a damn.

It's inherent to the tech, break-in is a big deal, if you are a regular couch potato you can forgo it, but for gaming initial care is in order.

Once the phosphor matures you don't have to have a care in the world.

Yikes bro, I hope you can get it taken care of.

I thought you weren't supposed to game on a plasma til you hit the 400 hour mark?

I've gamed on the last two plamsas I've owned right after I bought them and I've never had a problem with burn in. I just keep the contrast down and don't do long sessions when I first get them. I just got my 65VT60 and I've played COD ghosts and have my computer hooked up to my tv as well, no problems
