Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Never noticed that Leon's knife holster has some kind of tape on it.

Upgrade looks nice, I played this recently on the 360, also played a bit on the PS3, but I would play it again if they ported it to the PS4 with a platinum this time.

None of the subs are region-locked.

What do you mean by "subs"?

Have there been any cases like that? I have done the gifting thing a ton and I always received an uncut copy.

If you are just referring to gifting:
A gifted US copy of Borderlands was removed from my (German) account.

(And yes, there have also been cases of region locking (via IP for example) game keys)

Was the water always like this? I only played through the PS2 version and didn't notice any remarkable water.

The GameCube basically made water look awesome with minimal effort on the part of the developer.

The PS2 outright didn't have the functionality to do nice water easily.

I adored this game when it came out on the Gamecube. Probably the last game I truly fell in love with. I even wrote a review for the local newspaper, which they actually published. I'm almost scared to replay it now, because I don't think it would live up to my memories.

The violence and gore in this game was just spectacular. To this day I haven't played a game with such satisfying headshots. And those glorious death animations...

Capcom was so good back then, especially on the Cube. Viewtiful Joe, RE4, Killer 7, REmake, MM Anniversary Collection.

It shows him messing with the brightness and I guess the consistency might just be from different settings, because some of the shots are hella bright.

The Capcom dude on the Steam forums confirmed some of the uploaded shots have been brightened up after being taken to highlight the new textures.

ahh I see! Guess they were taken out of context.

Really hope grain could be disabled through ini editing, they don't look too good in the screenshots.

Am I the only one who thinks that the texture update in this Ultimate HD Edition is really poor? Is that because capcom cbf making a real good effort or because the console isn't powerfull enough?

It's like the original game has low res textures but this Ultimate HD Edition has been upgraded to medium res textures.

What do you mean by "subs"?

Essentially, when you purchase a game from Steam, technically you're not buying the game (app) but rather the package it belongs to (sub). Creating region-specific subs allows publishers to get around the headache of maintaining not only region-specific games but also region-specific DLC apps (since they need to be tied to a particular game -- e.g. Borderlands 2 RU). To reiterate, though, the Russian RE4 HD sub is completely region-free and is in fact the very one I will be pre-ordering myself in the near future, so again, if anyone here can't pre-order from GameFly but would like to get the game cheaper, I can offer copies at $15.50 (as opposed to GF's $15) and at no profit to myself.

I mean, I don't think they have their A team working on it or anything.

The newer textures aren't perfection but they are better. We're not getting Crysis levels of details but it's also a $20 product.

I suppose that's true, but so far any geometry improvements don't seem particularly noticeable to me from what screenshots I've seen thus far. And it's been nearly half a decade, but if I recall correctly the only texture mod I installed was a port of the Gamecube textures. The rest is handled by ENB.

I loaded it up and took a screenshot at the same place as a pair of screenshots I saw:

While my tree looks much worse, it seems like the rest of the textures, geometry, and lighting seem on par. I guess Leon's jacket may be a matter of opinion if you thought it looked abhorrent.

Edit: Unscientific Ashley comparison

All of your screenshots are unlabeled so it's not really useful, but the piss yellow one on the far left stands out because it looks terrible. So whichever version that one is looks like the pits.

This piss filter is horrible. Thank good they removed it.

I loved this game and played it the last time when it launched on gamecube.
the chances that I can resist to buy this this on a steam sale are next to zero.

Just to be sure, this new port is a port of the GC version? With added textures and stuff?

The former PC version was terribad.

Yes, this new version is based off the GC/Wii/360 version of the game, so all the cutscenes (except for that Ada Wong addon) in the game are done in realtime at 60 frames per second, and of course the new textures.

Its based on the GC/Wii ->360/PS3 versions.

Its looking like a very solid port with upgraded textures, higher framerate, and mouse controls.

I think they said the 360 version is the base, I was very pleased with that version overall. The PS3 version is similar but had low quality sound for some reason.

Probably just compressed audio due to the download. It seems like Capcom isn't compressing anything for the Steam version, hence the large size of the download.

Uncompressed audio and massive textures are always welcome. I would hope, going forward, Publishers start splitting up these downloads ala Sleeping Dogs High-Res Texture Pack, there are too many people affected by bandwidth caps.

It just keeps looking better to be honest. I think I'm going to go ahead and pre-order it; I've just been replaying Revelations and going through Raid mode. It still is so goooood.

But it's spiraling into a Resident Evil marathon! Booted up 2 on the Vita, and wondered what had gotten into me.

The promise of RE4 on Steam- it's a true blessing!

So looking at those screens posted on the Steam forums by the Capcom employee, the game actually DOES have an HD texture pack? I thought they would talking out of their asses about that!

Yes. And you can choose to use either the starndart textures or the HD ones.

Crysis level of detail is misleading since Crysis had incredibly inconsistent and overal mediocre textures. Even Crysis 2's so called "HD" textures were pretty awful.

Picked this up today. Looking forward to playing it. Never played a RE game before. I picked up the Wii version of RE4 for my Wii U not long ago but hadn't had motivation to play it. But with the spiffy upgrades to this version, will be playing ASAP :D
