But in all seriousness, I have a 7 year old (so not quite in the age range here) and they wouldn't have a clue about Netflix gaming or any such bullshit. The only thing they want is a switch. Or anything that can play Roblox, minecraft and Fortnite! And switch does all that I think!!!

Not too sure why he is so adamant it's happening though. And his desire for it to happen is just baffling. He's a big cloud guy but consoles remain a massive thing in gaming. And will remain so for many many years to come.
And not just for Jaffe but why the want for consoles to fail? Is this because Microsoft is pushing this narrative that console sales haven't grown so that means it's a failure for the future of gaming? I just don't understand.

Does Sony have any culturally relevant IP like Minecraft, Fortnite or ROBLOX? I suppose The Last of Us is the closest thing they have but the decline from the first season of the show to the second is palpable.

IDC about Nintendo since Goldeneye, but I can see the Switch 2 being the only system kids would be excited about anymore and even then, it isn't anywhere near the same degree as a PS2 back in the day. Not enough games coming anymore and the games they do want to play can be played on current consoles. Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, etc.

I worked for 3 years as an English teacher in asia, and teaching mostly teens. Trust me when I tell you, they do know about PS5 and Switch but all they care about is their games on the phone like LOL, COD mobile, Genshin Impact, Free Fire etc. They couldnt care less about some blockbuster TLOU 2 or the latest Super Mario game. They maaaaaybe heard about them but at best they go to gaming cafes and play the latest FIFA. Whatever the guy wrote, its true, they dont care about the PS6 or its development or if it can run games at 120fps 8K. Kids today are all about free mobile gaming, sad but true. Roblox and Fortnite are the only games they would ask their parents as a present to pay for microtransactions. 90% of kids in school literally could care less about what is going on in the console market.
And before you say, well maybe these kids are poor, they are at after school English centers that charge arm and a leg and are all considered from well off families because a regular person wouldnt be able to afford paying for this, on top of their regular school curriculum.

Why would you care for it if it's not pushing out new experiences, and a single game is doing that. The concept of a PS6 is continuing that limitation, likely will be purchased by a parent for their use at times, and isn't where you and your friends want be.
On the other hand, there is no alternative to dream of. Streaming and casting and phones are trash, so the dream is probably a second PS5 that maybe is portable. You know, the PS6.

Kids that are 8 should play outside with their friends from the street and/or school. And if the weather is garbage they should play with Lego, whatever kind of dolls/action figures, toy cars, colouring or play boardgames with the family.
And maybe you can play on your dad's or older brother's console for a few minutes.

Yeah, I was wildly amused by Game & Watch, DOS games and Flash games as a kid in the 90s. I can't see little ones being concerned with "the next big thing" that'll have better graphics. That interest comes possibly later on, especially in the teens.

For people not aware, this would have been in front of kids aged 7-9 years old. And most of us aren't surprised by your story. I can only imagine how mind-blowing it would have been for me if I was that young and my teacher did that in class.

I have 7 yo twin girls. All they give a fuck about is Nintendo and have been talking about "the new Nintendo" aka Switch 2. The Mario movie was a really smart move. It cemented these characters for yet another next generation. I see their class mates with the Switch as well.

It's unsurprising a CEO of Netflix doesn't understand the gaming market. But they also shouldn't be mouthing off on topics that fall outside their domain of knowledge.

Part of the problem.... I know my son was the same way 10 years ago.
The dude has a point, don't know if it will transfer to netflix though.
When I was a kid we looked in magazines, and had friends playing the new hotness - Nintendo mario /zelda, duck hunt. The odd duck got a master system.
Then the 16 bit consoles came and we thought about those. I was in my teen years by then.
I also had a pc and was big into D&D , friends had eye of the beholder and gold box games.. I eventually got into them and might and magic/ultima on our family 386.
Now we don't have magazines. Game systems are no longer $99 or $129 (the cost of an NES control deck or action set). They are half a g. It's fankly insane.
Most sane parents, if they are not already gamers, are not spending $500+ on an 8 year old.
With unaffordable gaming systems, expensive games, and not much kid friendly fair, its no wonder they aren't going for playstation, or even nintendo (unless pushed by parents nostalgia)
