The Fantastic Four: First Steps | Official Trailer

I'd say there is zero chance of them making a shift after this too.

Excuse Me What GIF by Bounce

I'm not sure what you mean by "shift", but if you're implying the FF won't join the Sacred Timeline after Secret Wars, I highly doubt that will be the case.

According to some test-screening spoilers:
Silver pulls some kind of doomsday device --- out of her ass? Who knows? --- that she uses to destroy Big G. Thing is, it destroys earth as well, and possibly starts the destruction of the universe (I guess these guys were fans of Supernova, back in the day?) so the 4 escape to another universe--after f'ing up their own, it seems.
Again, the ending was reportedly reshot, because test audiences HATED it.

There's been a lot of so-called test screening spoilers that were debunked afterwards (and some of the spoilers flat out contradict what you posted, so it shows how unreliable they are), so I wouldn't take too much stock in them.

Wouldn't surprise me if Marvel has screenings with wildly different versions of the film, leading to these conflicting reports. They have a very "by committee" feel to their film process now with a cut n paste editing style with disjointed films. The director has done ONE movie prior to this, all his other credits are TV where he is just slotting into a much larger operation versus delivering his singular vision. So wouldn't surprise me that the overall film is being managed by an executive group rather than the director.

Considering we know they escape their universe and end up on 616, are they actually saving the day? I would assume that Galactus just destroys their universe.
If everyone knows the fate of F4 thanks to Thunderbolts and the leaks, then I hope that the minds behind this movie at least took a page out of Thunderbolts and made this movie more about it's character writing.

Doesn't look like the worst thing ever but it doesn't make any sense to me. "First steps" is a dumb title when they apparently fail and run away.

Galactus as a threat is way too powerful for a first movie. He'd need the entire planets heroes and yet as far as I know it's just the F4 in this.

Most people's first steps towards any goal aren't met with success.

I looked at this more like an establishment of threat level. The worse thing to do would be to randomly introduce him in an Avengers movie only to lose within 2 films. He is worth a buildup.

Shoulda called it "Two steps forward...three steps back" and then gotten Paula Abdul to sing the theme song :P

though now that I'm reading to lyrics to "opposites attract" i realize I misunderstood those lyrics and what she's been referring to all these decades :P

Galactus has been beaten by the FF by themselves or with assistance by Silver Surfer and a handful of others multiple times. He definitely doesn't have to be built up over multiple films, in fact he's nothing compared to Thanos with the assembled Guantlet.

Also, your spoiler may not be correct.

Thanos is a playable character in Marvel 2, in Marvel 3 Galactus is the main villain. Marvel has established him as a bigger threat, and not just some mid tier dude with good dhcs.

Pedro Pascal sure is doing his hardest to make me lose interest in his movies/shows. I wish these entertainers would act less like prima donnas. I'm just as interested in their hot takes about politics and the world as I'm interested in a truck driver's or film editor's. Some actors let their fame go to their heads and they suddenly think they are especially qualified to comment on any subject and that they are more right than others. But at the end of the day acting is a very silly job and they should just take their money and be quiet(er).

I genuinely hope this movie gets 10s across the board, critics, fans, box office, all of it. Just so we can watch you sit there, arms crossed, refusing to watch it because the shiny space man isn't exactly how you pictured him in 1992.
I'm well aware I'm being super fucking petty. I don't disagree at all. And that's kind of the point. I have wanted a good surfer movie since I was a little kid … and this isn't it. It's as if they just decided to piss all over a dream I wanted ever since the mcu became popular. It sucks.

If they come back and do a proper one in our timeline, I will 100% take my lumps (and be grateful for them). But I'm not going to hold my breath as I doubt we ever see the character again after f4 as people would be too confused. I truly hope I am wrong though and everyone else is right.

In the Earth X comics, Norrin still exists and is in a relationship with Shalla-Bal, it's just in that universe she became the Surfer instead of him. Norrin will likely be referenced by her in this movie, possibly even being in a flashback.

I don't know how people could get confused by Norrin being Surfer in the main universe. We've had Spider-verse show other people besides Peter become a Spider hero, we've had different versions of live-action Peter Parker appear together, we've had the 2000's Johnny Storm return, we've had an alligator Loki! The multiverse is well established by this point, Norrin being Surfer shouldn't confuse anyone.

I'm hoping I'm right too, because a well done adaptation of the mid 2010's run of Silver Surfer, one of my favorite Marvel runs of that decade, would slap hard.

I'm loving that there seems to be a decent amount of space action seems to be in this. While I do have a soft spot for the 2000's films, but aside from how they butchered Dr. Doom and Galactus, they had a few other issues and one was there barely being any scenes in space aside from their initial space expedition at the start of the first film. Space/dimensional action and exploration is a major element of the FF comics, so I'm glad it's finally getting some focus here.

I assume "First Steps" relates to Franklin Richards, the baby and also one of the most powerful characters in Marvel comics.

I like her speech...but...theres just something about how she looks that looks...wrong

ok so I went back to the old Fantastic 4 movie with the silver surfer. Its mostly her eyes. They are defined and pop with eyeliner or something. Just looks...off.

For me, I thought it looked interesting with the first trailer...but the more I see..the less interest I have.

Imagine the F4 seeing pictures of Iron Man when they arrive in the main universe at the end of the movie and ask, why Dr. Doom is mourned as a hero ..

Her eyes are ugh… yes, either the actress or the art director wanted the actor underneath to show more. It looks very very odd.

See this illustrates the difference between 2d drawings and 3d animation. In the comic she has exaggerated feminine features to strongly differentiate her from the male surfer, or any other silvery character. Her long hair isn't very textured, it's difficult to really say how it moves. Does she have boob jiggle? Does her hair blow in the wind?

But in 3d animation, you gotta actually decide these things. Increased texture looks better on film than solid homogenous patterns (just look at all the textures on hero costumes that are flat in the comics) but animating long hair is very expensive. Plus they clearly wanted to desexualize her appearance but still try to honor the source material.

Had they just taken Sydney Sweeny and painted her silver, it would be a very cheap effect to have her look and move much like the comic version is shown, but to do that in cg is more costly and time consuming that marvel allows these days. And the film would have been rated R for how she would have looked.

The speech was actually pretty good I agree. The "spacey" sound of the voice was good too.

I think the cgi is actually not bad. It's gotta be hard to really nail down reflective metal on a person. That stuff looks good to me.

I'm still not going to see it though lol.

I feel like I already know the whole movie based on trailers...also its so strange I dont understand how people like Vanessa Kirby, she looks like she has the same emotion all the time, her face looks like its plastered with botox and she cant move a single muscle in her face

if they did this the movie would easily surpass Avatar in the box office :messenger_winking: :messenger_beaming:
Sadly, the internet has robbed film of that value add. All the actresses that popped top to drive box office have failed these days. ScarJo, JLaw, Portman, Jennifer Beals. Usta be that you had to wait for the annual "sex in cinema" playboy spread to see anything you missed cause the theater guy was enforcing the R rated age restrictions, tha bastard, but now you can see it all online so I think there is a lot less of it. Sweeny isn't shy, so far at least, which is nice but I doubt nudity alone would drive the needle much. Even a hard core raunchy flick like we got back in the day is almost more embarassing than titillating unless it's dressed up in as a pro-feminist statement.

But I do think that female fronted superheroine flicks would benefit from more attention to the male gaze. That was always the thing in comics and time and time again it's been proven that women just don't support other women in these ventures.

My son has asked multiple times to go see this movie. He likes the Rock guy and thinks that is cool.

I am not sure if I should introduce an 11 year old to the marvel movie universe. Although this may be the point to jump on the next phase.

Why not start at the beginning and just skip the crappy ones?

Not sure because it's a slog to get through them all our because you think he's too young?

It is a slog to watch 30 movies and you will lose interest I think at some point. I think the movies are aimed at 11 year olds.

I don't know what the list would be. Iron Man, Thor 3, Ant Man, Spiderman, Avengers 1, I don't know.

I'd go for the movies with the big avengers characters, like iron man, captain America, thor, hulk and such but skip the filler and bad movies like ultron, black panther, thor 2, and such. The main problem is everything links together, so skipping iron man 2 means you miss getting introduced to natasha, skipping ultron means missing the death of jarvis and the birth of vision. It's a complicated web which makes it hard to navigate without missing out on fairly important things.

Some one just needs to do a 2 hour Previously on Marvel. And just give the highlights.

You watched and found every single MCU entry crappy…and yet you still kept watching all 36 films without any desire to just stop and move on to something different?

Where'd you get the notion I watch those movies? I stay away from all of that Marvel garbage (with the exception of the old early 00's Xmen and Raimi's Spiderman because they actually felt fresh at the time).
