Wuchang: Fallen Feathers |OT| Saving dat pirate booty

I use longsword deflect a ton. Unlocking it kinda transforms combat and was when it really clicked with me. There is plenty of mechanics that I still do t understand ("clash" wtf) but I never felt like I need to, Ive been steamrolling everything beating every boss max 3rd try and this feels like 10 times harder all of a sudden. I mean I did enjoy a lot about the game this far, may try again tomorrow.
I had the same experience as you: I steamrolled everything and found the game easy until that boss, and imo she is the hardest one in the game (I am at the last chapter). The game will be (way) more difficult after her, but no other bosses gave me the same struggle.

What helped me a lot was to bait her easiest attacks to parry: try to be like 5 meters away from her at all time and you will notice that she will almost only do her big piercing dash. Parry that, rince and repeat. If you go too far she will blast you with her spells and if you go too close she will do her painful combos that require several parries to break.

You can also respec for a magic build, apparently this is an easy way to kill her. I am too stubborn to respec so I did not do it, but it is an option.

And really dont give up, the best areas and fights are after this point.

I trust you bro, you will kill that c*nt :d

Is my game bugged or the character model looks really fuzzy during movement and especially camera panning? I can't take any good pics because of that. My girl only looks good when standing still.

Already tried switching every graphics settings that I can but it still looks fuzzy/blurry during any movement. Why is that? And when's photo mode available?

I'm having trouble with the parry. Are the frames rough? I can parry like a god in Sekrio and pretty good in Lies of P, but I'm struggling finding the enemies rhythm in this game.

keep pressing the button like a block, the timing is super generous, and upgrade the counter in the skill tree or you are not gonna stagger the enemies.

I'm starting to dislike the random mechanics of some of the boss fights. Very inconsistent to what you can parry or not, for example, you know that jump attacks cannot be parried from previous enemies, but at the general, you could parry his jump attacks. You also know you can parry all sword attacks, but apparently 90% of the time a specific sword attack of that same general could not be parried. I reckon theres a lot of bugs in mechanics that not always work, like now I'm at the mistress and ofc, parrying is useless, but dodging also sometimes never works properly, as I hear and see the perfect dodge sound effects, but I still get hit by her fucking legs. This happens a lot of times and its starting to pile up and annoy me, these inconsistencies/lack of quality. Anyway, what a horrible boss fight, not in a hard way, but absolutely not fun at all, just having to wait for her to stop spamming shit, and do a hit or two and repeat. It's the same shit Shadow of the Erdtree bosses did and nobody liked them. At least the general felt satisfying when parrying, gave me some Sekiro vibes, but this bitch is just trash design. Whats more annoying that 90% of the normal enemies are 2-hits so theres really no point to using skills/parry anything else on them.

My positive impressions have dropped a bit, however the level design has remained ace so huge props to the dudes that designed the map.

Currently working on an "avian" boss: Bo Sorcerer that's being a massive bitch. I almost really like the fight but she has this one attack she does after launching multiple ranged attacks where she slams the ground rapidly from any distance and, as far as I can tell, there's no cue when it's coming. Not hearing an audio one and if there's a visual it's blocked by the ranged attack. Keeps fucking me up and pissing me off. Only thing I can figure is to start counting "1 mississippi, 2 mississippi, etc." and hope the timing is always the same. Or just live inside her anus so she never gets distance. And of course she has a shorter distance variation that does have an audio cue...usually. Just lost a good attempt to that attack because it didn't do the cue for whatever reason. Wtf...

Edit: and like usual a short break for everything to settle did the trick. One step closer.

For me, this game has consistenly been almost brilliant but there's always some nagging little thing throughout that sours it a bit.

Also, just noticed this latest post for an upcoming update.

Regarding Pre-order Rewards and Future Compensation
In the July 25 update, there were errors in distributing and retrieving pre-order rewards, resulting in players not successfully receiving their rewards. We also received feedback that the compensation for Deluxe Edition players was insufficient.

As a token of appreciation for your early support and to make amends for our oversight, we will provide additional compensation to all Deluxe Edition owners:

  • Steam Deluxe Edition : in addition to the single costume as compensation, there will be 3 extra sets of Deluxe costumes + 4 weapons.
  • Standard and Deluxe Editions holders will additionally obtain 3 headgear items across all platforms.

Regarding Performance and Game Optimization
We will continue to optimize performance issues and will keep adjusting the game based on your suggestions—such as difficulty levels and boss encounters—in upcoming patches. Here is a preview of our recent optimization efforts:

  • Fix crashes across different devices
  • Improve frame rates and reduce lag on certain graphics cards
  • Optimize default settings for some graphics cards
  • Correct the speed of getting up after being knocked down
  • Reduce damage and the number of some traps
  • Lower impact resistance of certain low-level monsters
  • Reduce exploration pressure in some areas
  • Fix issues caused by missing items leading to quest interruptions
  • Improve AI logic for monsters and bosses
  • Enhance texture quality in low-resolution areas
  • Improve asset detail and precision in some regions

So are the reports of a ton of gotcha moments, status effects etc... As bad as they make them out to be?
There's lots of

ihbvNJNx4oeinzge.gif

but it really depends on the individual how much it bothers you. Those moments for me are more of a minor annoyance that elicits a "oh fuck off with that" than a legit problem.

Status can be a bit more of a problem depending on the area and whether you're hardheaded enough to not actually equip yourself to help with dealing with it. The bigger problem is only having 4 slots for items. 1 of which is dedicated to heals and the other is likely for your fairly strong temperance buff so more like 2 slots for all your secondary heals, status cleanse, throwables and more. It's rather stifling considering the large amount of usable items you get.

How about enemy placement, I'm seeing the last 2 areas are a bitch. What sucks is man I love souls games and platinumed a handful of them and recently Wukong etc but it seemed as if they made the game more to fuck the player more than fair challenge, that's how some reviews come across.

Not sure about the last 2 areas as I've not finished it and have no clue how close to the end I am. I am running into some placements with ranged attackers where they're on ledges out of reach forcing you to race through areas; maybe that's what folks are referencing. It's annoying for sure but not too bad to deal with.

I should've mentioned it above but in my case I have probably ~2,000 hours in Souls and likes so a lot of these tricks I've been seeing and dealing with for years so I don't fall for traps as easily and can deal with surprises well.

Yea I hear and oh same here, like I said been at em since Demons Souls and platinumed most of them, I'm just burned a bit on the formula is all but I still want to support good devs, I just am seeing and feeling out what to maybe expect.

One last question, how long are the runs back to bosses?

It varies. There's a few that have a slow ass elevator ride or are just a bit too far away but others are quite close. The boss I was bitching about a little earlier, thankfully, had a pretty quick run back. I found it more irritating that if there's a boss intro scene it always tries to play out (so you have to hold X to skip).

The game has almost no stutter but it is crashing like a motherfucker lately...
...

I have had zero crashes in 20 hours. Overclocking and things like that can cause crashes, get rid of that if you are using them. Are you on the latest drivers?

So, A or X also sprints? All this time lol. I saw someone complaining that dodge was sprint so you always dodge first, there is your fix. Also, why can I not progress in the large area with all the white flowers? The tombs, the door won't open.

Edit: Nevermind, I figured out where to go. This game is massive.

Never overclocked anything in my life :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I don't change driver for every new game, i usually keep the most stable until something better comes out.

If you don't have drivers specifically for the game, then you will have crashes papi. The latest drivers are for this game

I investigated around and these drivers seems decently stable so i already installed them.

Now i erased the game and installed again to force the shader compile at the beginning, i'm waiting for the download to finish.

Apparently changing drivers doesn't force some games to do the shader compile again even if the folder in theory should be empty when you change drivers...
(yes i used ddu)

I'm really enjoying the game so far and this is embarrassing, but how do you counter in this game? Seems like you need the long sword obviously, but is there a certain time you have to press a button or something before they attack you or an animation prompt that I have to wait for?

It needs to be unlocked in the skill tree first and then equipped, there is no prompt when using it, just try to time the block when attacks connect to parry/counter instead.

The enemy has to attack you first with a weapon. If they dont have a weapon you can only dodge. If they have a weapon and you the have the block discipline activated, then just press the block button before receiving the attack. The parry is actually quite satisfying because if makes the enemy stumble in a way that looks realistic. I like it

There's different mechanics for defense depending on the weapon and you need to unlock the specific ability as well (or put it on your weapon as a discipline). By counter I assume you mean deflect which is this game's parry. Yes, you need to time it right but it only works on weapon attacks so you can't deflect punches, kicks or magic.

Edit: when deflecting you hit the attack button again while the enemy is staggered and you'll do a followup. Its not like Souls where you get locked into a riposte animation.

Good to know, thanks man. I'll throw it back on my weapon and give it another go.
You cant parry melee , jump, grab & spell attacks.
That might be it. I was trying to parry Lu Hongliu's claw swipes and couldn't nail a single one. which lead to some quick and frustrating deaths.

My Dual blades with a leech build destroys enemies and bosses left and right. I am just attacking nonstop and with the right skills activated I deflect nearly automatically. Most of the time I don't even need to dodge, my health and stamina regenerate as I attack.

I like this game indefinitely more than any FS slop. But this one region was straight out of a FS game, mt zhu where you are going from one castle into another. Traps and shit everywhere. Fuck that place.

I think I might actually play this to completion. At the Liu Ching General of Something boss. Haven't beat him yet but I'm actually enjoying the fight, as opposed to the absolutely trash tier Commander H earlier. Lashing whip longsword reigns supreme due to its range, landing charged R2 post deflect, which can't be said about the cool looking but short katana of the rebel leader, who I smoked so hard first try it's not even funny. I find the deflect window really generous in this game, or maybe I just got used to it? So to counter that Mr Liu uses a bunch of stab combos where a single mistake drops you to the ground, so that no iframes and no control over how you get up mean you're guaranteed to get fucked by follow ups. Like his cadence is tuned percisely to hit you as you get up and can't do anything about it. But I can get used to that as well. What I can't get used to is the abysmal performance on the XsX, I can stomach truly terrible IQ but the framerate chugs and audio glitching so hard in this sequence it feels almost like something everyone reaching this spot should stop playing and wait for patch. But I somehow doubt we're getting one.

Kinda the same with Rampage Axe. It is too hard to dodge therefore we have removed the need for it. We are now "The Wall".

My main issue with the game is the lack of weapons scaling diversity.
If you don't have the deluxe edition, there's only 1 one-hand sword scaling with magic (and no other choice).
Feathering isn't really better, there's 1 longsword (missable if you talk to a npc to soon) and 2 one-hand swords (one being on the last boss of the game and the other a reward for the longest questline of the game, easily missable -I did-).

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I'll try that.

It happened with me.

I found this out the hardway. Lost all interest in going back in between that and my inability to control my emotions when I get git gud.

something similar happened to me in AI limit as well in that it does not tell you to NOT talk to certain npcs or it will lock you out of the true ending.

that status effects are the worse I have ever seen in a game. Just wait until peopel realize how bad despair status effect is and what it does and the rate it climbs when the throws two and three of the enemies at you that do it just by existing. Whoever thought that status effect up deserves to spend the rest of their long life stubbing their small toe on the sharpest bookshelves around.

That sucks, I'm hoping they maybe get feedback and tweak a bit.. I just hate overly hard bs like that.

Commander down after 5 tries. Definitely a skill adjustment like others have talked about. The level design hasn't disappointed me yet. I'm surprised by how much I'm enjoying this game. I had a bunch of times where timing moves and blocking felt like rocks in your shoes.

Too bad about the initial performance issues slowing down this games sales because it had crazy potential. I'm sure it still did well, but the negative rating really sunk it. Anyway, I love it. Already planning on NG+ or even a fresh start.

I'm at the same boss and yeah, the stabs that knock you down are super annoying...

Not as annoying as the sudden grab or ice stomp tho...

dodging it is very doable if you mind the audio cue… btw is it just me or are some attacks un- defelctable and its kinda random? Or are there rules to it? I've seen others posting earlier having the same problem

I was about to give up on the game yesterday. Im so fed up with the bullshit ambushes, traps and annoying enemy placements. It ruins the game for me. Devs were like "do you like poison swamps in souls games?" lets build the whole game around the most annoying shits from those games.

Also some enemies and bosses are just way too fucking agressive, let me heal atleast 1 time please. Changed to dual swords from longsword and having a better time, but the game is still annoying af

Martial art attacks are not parryable.

I'm trying the dual blades because i find a pair with a super cool skill (autoaim i think it's called) and since you mash all the time trying to deflect most attacks, it's hard to see the cues :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Maybe this is the worse boss to use this weapon since he has sudden unclashable attacks from up close.
