The problem is the series has never been about the bigger picture, it's been about Rick and his journey. Giving any value to Eugene's plan is kind of against the idea as a whole.

In any case, judging by the canned science mumbo jumbo from the last episode, I'd say they are going in that direction.

That's one issue I have with the series. It can get a bit repetitive in the sense that it's always about that journey and no new elements are introduced to make that different. I stopped reading the comics because it got tiring. Maybe I'll come back some day.

Do we know Eugene is full of bullshit? Either he will die before they reach a DC and lose the cure or he's deceiving everyone. I don't buy him being a scientist (a mullet?) and his army buddies look more like right wing milita. And when they asked him to explain the cure he gave some non answer.

That's what I am thinking: the writers want you to believe he doesn't know anything, as that is made all too clear (hair, speech etc.). So I kind of want to believe the writers want to make me believe its a hoax, when he really isnt.

BTW: havent read the comics

After a year of zombie apocalypse, there was a gas canister that was nearly full just sitting there, untapped. How convenient.

Minor complaint, it was a really fun episode.

- EW: 'The Walking Dead' director Greg Nicotero explains how they did that in the premiere *some comic spoilers*
When it comes to The Walking Dead, Greg Nicotero does it all: He’s an executive producer, he’s the mastermind behind all the zombie makeup, he sometimes appears as a zombie himself, and he has emerged as a go-to director for the AMC hit. It was Nicotero who directed Sunday’s off-the-hook season premiere, so we spoke to him to find out how they filmed all the throat-slitting and fire-zombie-walking insanity.

I just saw that the actress that plays Tara is Hyde from That 70's Show's real life sister.

The most disturbing scene from the premier to me was when the rapist guy throws the mom back in the train and grabs the other woman. When she says, "no, not again" I got sick to my stomach. The throat slitting did nothing to me though. I'm surprised so many were bothered by it considering how often we see walkers rip the flesh from people.

With Eugene, I feel like he's mainly there (storywise) to give people hope and a goal. In his scene last night, the other actors seemed to be playing it like, we get the feeling he's full of crap, but we'll believe just to have something to live for.

I hoped someone would call bullshit but it looked like they bought it. Or figured they'd get into that once they solved more immediate concerns.

We had the scene near the end when his two buddies were talking about "having to tell them soon," so I think the group will get the truth soon enough. They just made up the cure mission to be sympathetic to other groups they encountered I bet.

Just watched it. It airs on Monday nights here in the UK (just one day after US) but my area had a power cut literally 30 minutes before it started last night...

I thought it was really good. I watch TWD if its bad or good as i'm too invested into it now but I genuinely think this season will be good throughout.

Man Rick is nuts I love it!!

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I can't get behind the doubt about Eugene. He's like the reincarnation of Bill Hicks.

And I read that it might hit 22mil viewers once the DVR numbers come in. What's the significance of cable TV numbers, is it much harder to get big network type numbers like these on modern cable tv? Because they just smoked most of network that night.

Welcome to post MCU. I welcome the post-credit scene.

I don't mind the following getting axed:
-Glenn (terrible character)
-Tara (actress is pretty bad)
-Tyreese (outside of rage-mode, he's too wishy washy)
-Eugene (the character looks so silly, but I know he's necessary for the storyline)

I love Glenn but he's definitely starting to lose appeal

Maybe not an entirely plausible idea, but I always felt Judith actually may hold the cure. Eugene even gives a certain look the first time he sees her, but it could all just be in my head.

This episode felt like what the finale of last season should have been instead of the annoying cliffhanger we got.

I'm wondering if they will elaborate on what exactly was happening on Terminus, otherwise the final scene was kinda pointless and redundant.

I thought those people were the ones that came and did all those terrible things to the people now running Terminus. Then they got the tables turned on them and they ended up being the abused. Unless that crazy lady was just telling lies before Carol fed her to the walkers.

Liked the premiere primarily due to the fact that they've already moved on from Terminus. I don't think I could handle another season set in one location.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well. Still that doesn't explain why these people turned batshit insane and started butchering and mangling people who arrived at Terminus. Also, were these people cannibals? The show never clarified on that.

There's no indication that they're batshit insane. They're just doing what they think they have to do to survive. It all seems really calculated and prepared. Obviously eating people is crossing a line that is messed up but it's the apocalypse. It's easy.

Stacking people in containers only to butcher them in such ways, skin them and eat them is not batshit insane? Not to mention the eerie candles and wall text.

Me no thinks you understood the episode. The room with candle and wall text was a legitimate memorial to those who were raped and murdered before they took back Terminus for themselves. As for stacked bodies and whatnot, once again, very calculated. It's nothing but cattle/food to them. It's not some ritualistic sacrifice. They're literally rationing/eating trying to survive.

To be clear, they're definitely taking it too far. Eating people is crossing some moral lines but I wouldn't say the actual people are INSANE.

I don't remember the exact line, but I think the fact that Gareth was basically telling the butchers to get the bloodlust out of their system before they go back to "public face" is pretty telling. Insane might be pushing it, but I don't think they're operating with a full deck.

But no, not Governor levels of crazy at all.

I disagree. I think the whole TWD scenario, the distached methodical nature of it all, the bat + knife combo, made it feel more disturbing and unsettling than Breaking Bad's scene
If this is a debate we're having, my nomination would be: GoT season 4 spoilers ->
Prince Oberyn death scene
. I'm a big Saw fan, and I was shocked by that shit on my television.

First halves of 3 and 4 were great, though.
Why do people keep saying this? I'm a huge advocate for this show, but the beginning of season 4 seems completely throwaway. A nasty flu, that killed everyone except the main characters, and is now completely irrelevant to everying that's ever happened? Seems like a huge waste of airtime to me. The second half of season 4 was faaaaar superior.

My thoughts, not read the books.

I think he was maybe tested on and possibly caused the zombie outbreak and the carrier of a certain strain that can cure people who are still alive so they don't turn into zombies.
