I totally forgot the season had started.

That had to have been one of the best, most fun TWD episodes ever. Real glad how that Terminus shit got dealt with really quickly.

So what was the deal with Gareth/Mary's kin on the slab about to get eaten? why? what did he do?

I actually thought from that start that they came back to fuck them up, that would have been so much better and evil. Evil Rick is best rick.

He was the one that got shot in the season finale when Rick figured out what was going on.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
Asked this before but it got lost...I read that it might hit 22mil viewers once the DVR numbers come in. What's the significance of cable TV numbers, is it much harder to get big network type numbers like these on modern cable tv? Because they just smoked most of network that night.

This episode was better than most everything they've done.

However, it is underwhelming that they setup Terminus all last season and it ends in an episode.

This show's pacing continues to boggle.

Carol is way too mighty-woman for no reason. She's a video game character.

RE: CANIBALS

How does that even work in this world? After people die they become zombies, so wouldn't the flesh just zombify after a few hours/days? Even if it's frozen, the infection is still there. Is it just the brain that's bad and contaminates the rest of the flesh?

Otherwise, I don't see any legitimate reason for there to be cannibal groups in this post-zombie society.

If your brain is destroyed and you're not a zombie yet, you don't turn into one. That's about all we "know" about how the show treats it.

I dont think Terminus is done yet. That leader dude ran away from the "kitchen" and we haven't seen him since. Also: the previous owners of Terminus probably aren't all gone yet

So would that baseball bat to the back of the head kill them first?

Or is it some courtesy thing to knock them out before slashing open their throat?

Knocking them out first so there's no struggle when the throat slashing happens. Could definitely be fatal, but it'd be less 100% than the throat slashing.

That whole scene was to illustrate how clinical and organized it all was. They have a system, they're even really neat and clean about it. And their boss has a clipboard.

On Talking Dead they called it "institutional evil".

Carols arc from battered wife to badass survivalist is probably one of the best arcs in the show. It was gradual and with little bullshit.

Carol is probably the best character in the show.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who thinks this way. When we were introduced to her all I could think of was when is this annoyingly weak woman going to get killed. Now she has turned in one of my favorite characters.

Isn't this how everyone feels now? How can people hate Carol?

Rick fans, I assume. >_>

Rick did shoot the leader as they were running out, but only in the shoulder.

Zombies are effectively killed when the brains are damaged. When someone dies they put a bullet or blade in the brain to prevent them from turning, so I don't know why it would be any different for bodies intended for later consumption as food.

This thread moves fast. Every year I keep hearing on Gaf about how terrible this show is, yet this seems to be one of the most popular TV show threads on this forum.

It's the #1 show on TV and GAF isn't a hivemind. People will loudly complain about it but many more watch and enjoy it.

It's also pretty hit-or-miss, but the season 5 premiere was a high point for the series.

I've come to realize that the GAF consensus is way off base compared to the general consensus of the show. The majority here seem to shit on the show and yet everyone I know (even my grandmother watches The Walking Dead) enjoys it and well, the ever increasing ratings speak for themselves

GAF is the internet and the internet communicates in extremes. Is TWD Breaking Bad or Mad Men tier? Nah. But it isn't Under The Dome level bad either. It's a good show that occasionally ascends to great. I swear, everything is either one of the best shows on TV, one of the best shows of all time, or it's shit.

Many in TWD-GAF are like wrassle-GAF, where they constantly threaten to stop watching but never actually do it.

Yea Walking Dead is still miles above most network tv shows and stuff on USA.

I thought this episode was one of the best since "Too Far Gone" and "The Grove". The second half of the finale last season wasn't nearly as good the first, at least to me.

I may be in the minority saying this but I really think a regular character needs to die soon. I just feel like there is no ever a sense of fear that any big player in the show will ever go down. Aside from constant fake outs there has been little going on since Hershel died.

Not to get off topic but Burn Notice was an awesome show on USA.

Agreed, I didn't like her in the earlier seasons but she's the best character now. Rick a close second. She is comic Andrea.

Why do people keep saying this? I'm a huge advocate for this show, but the beginning of season 4 seems completely throwaway. A nasty flu, that killed everyone except the main characters, and is now completely irrelevant to everying that's ever happened? Seems like a huge waste of airtime to me. The second half of season 4 was faaaaar superior.

The first half of season 4 with the flu was the best the show ever was because of how everything was falling apart at the same time. It seemed like the end of the world for them. Glenn looked like he might die. Hershel was becoming badass. Sick people were being murdered by someone in the group of good characters. Rick and Carl were tag teaming together against the zombies. Excitement level was never higher for the show.

The second half of season 4 was the worst the show ever was. Aside from that one episode with the two kids, it was just characters constantly walking and talking. The farm episodes were better. At least that had an interesting character like Shane being unpredictable and causing drama.

Chalk me up for not liking the first half of four as much as the last. The first half really was spinning its wheels with the flu thing to me, and since I love the show when it zooms in on a certain character for a while (characters walking and talking, oh heavens no!), the last half was great and it really gave you the sense that the idea of safety in the group was easily lost. Out of the first half, return of the Governor was easily my favorite part though.

Just watching the entire group walk off at the end you realize just how big the group has gotten. The best thing about the walking dead in the early seasons was that it really felt that apart from Rick anyone could die. I don't know if they can recapture that feeling without it seeming like they are killing off people for the sake of it.
I have a feeling that the theme of this season is going to be around the butcher/cattle line.

Yea, that's a good point. I def agree with the butcher/cattle thing. I guess I just miss not knowing if the group will actually make it out of a situation or not.

I'm really curious to see how the handle the priest in the show. I won't spoil anything but I hope it's similar to the comics.

I just rewatched the premiere and cried at the reunion with carol. i am not embarrassed.

this whole cannibal butcher thing is gross and hard to watch, but it is a powerful story especially with the final "then" scene.

I REALLY loved seeing RIck learn from past governor mistakes and want to finish the job this time. And I thought Carol's badass "I don't believe you...I don't believe you...there's a herd, and I'm going to use them" confident chatter was beyond amazing.

I assumed it made the blood rush to their heads, empty them faster or something.
The heart keeps pumping the blood as long as the victim is alive. I think they way the avoid or delay turning by draining the blood from the victims. Keeping them alive but unconcious is the fastest way to do that.

Thank the walking Jesus that it didn't drag for half a season.

Great episode! I didn't think they'd escape from Terminus in 1 ep.....I thought they would drag it out to at least 2 eps. Just well done. Can't wait for the rest of the season.

AMC putting the episode up on their website the day after is making me not regret my decision to cancel cable at all.

really that episode should have been the S4 finale. I guess if you marathon them it makes sense, but waiting all that time for 1 episode escape was an odd decision.

How long is it up for?

- Deadline: Alexandra Breckenridge Joins ‘The Walking Dead’ As Recurring
Alexandra Breckenridge (American Horror Story) has landed a recurring role on Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead. She has an option to become a regular on the zombie drama, which shattered another ratings record with its fifth season premiere. As usual, details about the character are being kept under wraps. On the breakdown, she character is listed as Samantha,
an attractive, strong, smart, charming and articulate woman who also has a vulnerable side. She’s a mother with a bohemian spirit, and a talented artist.
The Walking Dead producers sometimes use fake characters names to disguise the real identity of characters from the graphic novel that are joining the series, so it is unclear whether Breckenridge’s heroine will still be named Samantha when she makes her debut on the show later this season.
