Critic Reviews:

Talking Dead’s Inside The Dead:

  • Noah’s neighborhood was a real suburban neighborhood made to look like it had been looted.
  • The perimeter wall was created using digital effects.
  • One of the walkers was made to look like the crypt keeper as an homage to Tales from the Crypt.
  • It was 17 days after Beth’s death that Tyreese died.
  • The voice on the radio was Andrew Lincoln.
  • The truck of walker torsos is a mystery that will be unveiled later.

PLEASE SPOILER TAG ALL PREVIEW/PROMO AND GRAPHIC NOVEL DISCUSSION. REVIEW THE OP FOR COMPLETE THREAD RULES ON SPOILERS.

Tyreese's death was pretty much pointless and it seems like these deaths are just being thrown in for the shock value now. it feels really lazily done

the shot of them pulling him out of the car was pretty good, but the hallucinations made the rest of it feel corny as hell

I will admit seeing those two little sisters, (from the episode "The Grove") again, played with my heart strings. I still feel sorry for them. "Just look at the flowers"

Yeah. Seeing them along with Beth and Bob there was pulling some heart strings.

Also, damn, Rick's beard is a thing to admire.

What an emotional return. Getting all excited waiting weeks for the show to come back and they just rip your heart out. Such a great episode and great performance by Chad L. Coleman. RIP Tyreese.

Episode was boring and trying way too hard to seem more meaningful than it is

Hallucinations were corny and poorly done

Shame it wasn't Glenn.
Honestly when he was looking over that wall of Noah's old neighborhood I thought he was gonna get sniped. I really liked tonight's episode. But the show is "damned if you do, damned if you don't". If no one ever dies then people complain how there's no sense of danger for them. If people do die, people get pissed too lol.

Tyrese's death was totally unexpected by me. I liked him as a character and I felt they handled his death well.

This may be the worst, most pointless episode of the Walking Dead ever. They had zero reason to kill
Tyrese
off on such a filler episode...

They have a wealth of comic plots and subplots to pull from that people haven't read. Just use them.

Walking dead swears it has to top game of thrones when it comes to death. But they waste the deaths by having no build up and you don't even care about the character. Everyone I know who reads the comic was..oh you just wait and see, oh man ty is going to really put everyone on lock! and what we got was him getting snuck up on because he had feelings over a picture.

Terrible to kill off characters for the "shock" of it to have people talking about the show instead of having great and emotional characters people can relate to.

Neat editing, nice retrospective feel... but honestly... this episode was a slow burner. They could have sent off Tyrese halfway through and moved on to something else. Of course, I have a feeling we're going to have to sit through a couple more boring episodes of the group running around looking for food and shelter.

The crap on the radio, was that legit or was Tyrese imagining it? If it was true, Rick and co. better hightail it the fuck out of there.

I too am tired of this show finally giving you, the viewer, a sense of a particular character's development only to kill them off. Beth in particular was episodes wasted for almost nothing.
What was being said on the radio?

Tyrese was a horribly written butchered character. How they managed to completely waste one of the top tier comic character astounds me

Agreed. Maybe it's a product of the show changing showrunners as often as it does, but it seems to be their way. "Wow, we sure fucked up this character. Guess that's why pencils have erasers."

I'm actually glad Comic Spoiler
that the community was destroyed and really hope they avoid that entire plot line in the show. The Negan storyline dragged on forever and made me eventually stop reading the comics. He is one of the most one dimensional predicable and creatively uninspired villains of all time. Between him and the guy that had a pet tiger with guards that spoke old English, it felt like I was back in junior high reading a comic one of my friends wrote.

Really excited for this season and curious to if they make it to D.C. and what happens there. Sad to see tyrese go just from Wire nostalgia. Would love if they came across Bunk and McNulty.

This community has nothing to do with that one you're mentioning. On the story sync thing they compared it to the
gated community from like issue 9.

Fuck, man... Did it really have to be Tyreese? ;_;

I guess it was a decent way to wrap up the story arc they gave him. The flashbacks were fun. Especially with Martin. I just love to hate that guy.

Glad they're on the way to Washington now.

Those walkers that were nothing but heads and torsos was fucked up. I wonder if people mutilated them before or after they turned.

Also... (Comic Spoilers)
I feel like Gimple is trolling us so hard making Glenn find that baseball bat. lol

What was being said on the radio?

In the room where Tyrese was bit: "...nearly 68 citizens of the Republic have been killed in four deadly attacks along the main coastal district. The group has continued their campaign of random violence moving across the countryside, unfettered with the Republic's military force in disarray."

Later, in the car: "...there have been troubling reports of cannibalism having broken out in refugee camps along the Republic's transportation corridor, and despite the string of victories by rebel forces, there are disturbing reports of increasing the brutality of their tactics, including the wholesale destruction of villages, burning down of prisons, targeting of civilians, and even the widespread mutilation of children and young mothers -- and this seems like only the beginning of their campaign [that they may?] call [as?] an 'endless war'..."

Um... was that entire episode dedicted to pissing all over Tyreese? Seemed like a strange way to waste his character for no good reason (at least that's how it seemed to me)

I hate this show for this exact reason but for some reason keep watching. The best way I can even begin to describe this show is that it meanders around aimlessly. With no sense of a plot.

I stopped reading the comic at the same place you did. Such a waste of time.

I wonder why no appearances by Hershel, Andrea, or that girl Tyrese was in love with. And I hope we at least get a web series explaining all the cut in half walkers.

Rick and the gang are killers roaming around in Normal World. Walking Dead is just their imagination

I liked the intention of this episode, but the execution was flawed. The hallucinations went on way too long and lost their effectiveness. The art house feel seemed corny in the long run.

Don't tell me I was the only one who had brief thoughts of Tyrese with a robo-arm.

Anyway I really enjoyed this episode. Kind of trippy and made me think of all the chaos they have been through.

I understand most people won't miss Tyrese, but not everyone can be Rambo Carol. Some are still stuck with their humanity.

Also to the "worst episode ever" type people, this was leagues better than anything from the Andrea/Governer season.

The fact that they're still resorting to ninja zombies is annoying, to say the least. I won't even begrudge them stupid people anymore, but master assassin undead is just such a lazy out and pretty much unforgivable at this point, like some sort of zombus ex machina. Need something done? Have a quiet zombie do it.

Scripts must look something like

Rick stands alone in a field.

Zoom in on his face, his brow furrowed in concern as he stares intently at the distant treeline.

Quiet. The camera pulls out, smoothly and in absolute in silence. Nothing can be hea--

SMASH CUT TO A ZOMBIE ABOUT TO CLAMP ITS TEETH INTO RICK'S SHOULDER

It wouldn't have been hard at all to think up a scenario in which one of the zombie twins manages to bite Tyrese without the stealth conceit, but nope, ninja zombies. Rather than make a situation that makes sense, though, they decided to go with, "LOOK AT TYRESE DIE BECAUSE HE'S A WEENIE THAT HAS OCCASIONAL FEELINGS", as if there was some sort of grand lesson there. This show is at its worst when it tries to masquerade as something with a deeper message about the human condition.

Not sure I would even classify these deaths as "shock value" cause they're always so telegraphed and painfully obvious.

The only deaths on this show I've liked were Shane and Merle's. All of the rest were just killing off dead weight useless characters in an overly sappy way.

Good fucking GOD the amount of commercials on this show is insane

It honestly felt like more commercial than content this time around.

Honestly, this whole Tyrese debacle could have been edited down to less than 10-15 minutes. But they clearly were going for a memorable sendoff for him, with clever editing and all. One of the show's people were talking about how this episode was going to be "polarizing" and blah blah to the fans but he really wants them to see it. Um, okay. If they keep this up they'll get to Dexter levels of ineptitude, being totally stuck in a cloud and not even realizing it.

Great episode. Tyrese got a great send off compared to the one we just got last episode.

Wonder what was up with the mutilated zombies and the gated community's gate/wall

That's kind of why I think Season 3 is underrated. It had a clear plot and conflict defined with the Governor and his settlement, that lasted the entire season. Season 4 fell apart after the mid season break, and Season 5 has been mostly trash so far with characters seeming to lose IQ with every episode, and no defined plot in sight.

Even when they get to Washington, they'll just be at another safe camp with another corrupt leader, been there done that. I really don't see how they can stretch this show out 9 seasons or however long they plan on running it.

Damnit. Excitement gone. Guess all that playing around with *Comic Spoilers*
Glenn picking up the bat isn't just him messing with comic readers, but rather some form of foreshadowing of things to come. Well, hopefully this time he doesn't cheese it up with the kingdom, Ezekiel and a character called Jesus.

i mean, i agree, but it always seems like there are a ton of viewers who actually do get shocked and saddened by that stuff, so i dunno. Beth's death was worse though.

like, the "look at the flowers" scene last season just came off as cheesy rather than serious and tragic, just because of the way it was directed and put together

I obviously don't know what the decision-making process was behind killing Tyrese at this time, but it seems like it would have been infinitely better to kill Noah off instead. even just directly replacing Tyreese with Noah and keeping everything else about that scene the same, i think that would have felt a lot less ridiculous. those were his brothers in the photograph, right? so that way it actually makes sense for him to be distracted by it. instead, Tyreese being the one to die here just feels completely fucking random and pointless

if they really wanted to kill Tyreese they could have at least made it fitting, make it a scene that builds upon what came before regarding his character traits. as it stands, T-dogs death was less pointless

You seen agitated.
I am/was.
to be fair on your first point, Tyreese was clearly in another world when he saw that photograph. Mad zoned out and he got bit.

Tyreese has a high strength and armor stat but because of that his speed and agility are low.
You always have to be on guard in the world they live in.

And Tyreese has escaped some pretty incredible fates. Remember the zombie herd from season 4?

Fuck! Tyreese was my favorite character on the show. And did they really have to make him go out by a fucking silent teleporting zombie? They could't have at least had him go out by pushing Noah out of the way of a zombie or something. :/

This is pretty much me as well with this show (I don't quite hate it, but I do wonder why I still bother with it when its problems are clear to me).

Tyrese has been lame for so long. His indecisive ass can‘t even decide if he wants to die while he‘s dieing. Every time he tries to have a heart to heart with someone it doesn‘t work, because he‘s Tyrese. If yhey weren't going to 180 him well I guess was the next best option.

Meh episode, I don't care enough for the character

Complete opposite of that other show that kills off characters all the time

They only try to 'develop' characters when they plan on killing them off. When they realize it's too late but need us to try and care about them. Guess they thought Tyreese's visions would make us feel more for him.

If a character is getting more screen time, it should be a good indicator that they will die soon on this crap show.
