Tyreese is a dumbass. Oh, let's zone out on some pictures, nevermind clearing the zombie house. And oh, I'm bit - time to have a spirit walk, nevermind amputating the infected arm.

I dont care that TWD is willing to kill off main characters, but can the show please stop turning characters into complete morons right before their demise? Beth and Tyreese deserved better, dammit.

The whole point is that people become careless. They've been living in this world for a long time. It's reasonable that people aren't always 100% vigilant.

I don't think the episode was as bad as some are saying but I did have a nagging sense of futility the whole time, you know?

Tyrese was bit and I feel like we see enough time pass that the amputation wouldn't save him, so we know Tyrese is a goner.

Then he spends the whole episode talking to hallucinations of other people that are dead.

My wife and I have noticed that when you go back and watch older episodes where they spend a lot of time on character development for characters that have since died (like the Andrea/Shane stuff in Season 2) it's hard to care about any of it knowing that these people won't be with us soon. Tyrese's whole death was basically an encapsulation of this problem - dead guy talking to other dead guys, what's the point?

I read in a review that it was supposed to represent Tyrese choosing to die. I didn't get that from the episode but I can totally accept that that's what they were trying to get across. But honestly, if Tyrese could have survived and chose to just let go because Mika and Lizzie said "It's better now" then that's almost as bad Padme "losing the will to live" after her twins are born.

Aaaaaaaand just like with most character deaths I'm disappointed that Tyrese didn't get more to do before his demise, more character growth, y'know?

It's meant to show how little they actually think of walkers now, they'll see walkers and practically sit there playing Rock Paper Scissors over who's going to have to kill it, barely even considering them a threat outside of large groups.

And yea, amputate his own arm with a dinky little knife while having hallucinations. Compared to other major deaths there was a lot of time spent on this, I don't know how much more they could have given the guy, not everyone needs a blaze of glory.

And Beth has always been a moron, she didn't suddenly turn into one at the end.

To be fair - Tyrese is almost completely inept. He's so inept that it would be funny if only the result of his incompetence wasn't always something like a baby nearly getting strangled to death or his future brother-in-law's leg getting eaten by cannibals. Tyrese did one good thing on the show and that was saving Judith at the prison. He's been a liability much more often than he's been an asset and his death did nothing to allay those concerns. It was disappointing.

Yep exactly this. All of these people are flawed and constantly vulnerable because of the demons they are all trying to deal with. If your not on your A game in this universe at all times your going to bite the dust eventually.

Even though it would have been awesome of course to see Tyreese die in a blaze of glory saving other people or whatever, most people in a zombie apocalypse would end up dying because they aren't paying attention/being careless. Even someone like Tyreese can be taken down by a single walker and its moments like this that keep the audience aware that no one is safe at anytime.

No a lot of people enjoyed the episode myself included.

Good to see others liked it too. For a while, it was nothing but

Ninja zombies are the dumbest, most laziest way to kill off a character.

I don't know, I think they just need to skip the whole "OMG he's bit let's drag it out" deaths and just make it fast and quick. Like, at this point in a characters life in this world there is no fucking way anyone would be caught with their pants down like that.

I also love how he made no attempt to put pressure on the arm or cut off blood flow as it gushes and gushes, real good survival skills bro.

Meh about this episode. Not sure if it was the pacing or what. I did, however, find the most offensive thing about the episode to be Glen's moustache.

Didn't like the episode, it just seems like the writers rarely can do anything well. This episode dragged on and on with Tyrese seeing the same few people and they had very little to say for all the time that ate up.

It really is this opposite though. At this point they've been in it so long that it's run of the mill stuff for them and they don't feel like they danger is as apparent anymore. It's like that for everything, you do same thing long enough and you start getting sloppy.

And the whole point of the episode is him accepting his death like he'd been trying to for a very long time. It was him finally giving into himself, so yea, he wasn't really looking to survive.

Absolutely not. Easily one of the best episodes of the series. Right up there with the pilot, Clear, and The Grove.
I'm not sure how I feel about Tyrese's death yet, but I really did enjoy the episode. I'm glad they're trying different things. Not all of them will work but I still appreciate the experiments.

Tyrese dying is rough. I hated what they did with his character (in reference to the comics) but at the same time, the group needs a moral compass even if I don't agree with anything he says. Ultimately though, his death was really stupid. Why would you check the front room, hear a walker behind a closed door, then go into another room and turn your back without securing it? A cursory glance to the left would have shown him the wide open door leading to where that snarling was originating. I understand him losing himself in the photo due to the person he is, but there is no excuse for not even trying to be safe.

The ninja zombies wouldn't be so frustrating if they were consistent. They're loud as fuck most of the time until they need to sneak up on a cast member and kill them. They're also really stupid mostly until they aren't. I originally got the impression that the kid walker was in that closed room for a long time but seconds after Tyrese gets in the other room, the kid is there, quietly sneaking up on Ty. Make them smarter or stop the ninja shit.
Im sick of all the "deep talk" more than the stealthy zombies
And this is my biggest frustration with The Walking Dead. I am sick to death of the cloaked language repeated episode after episode. More often than not, a short, direct sentence is more powerful than the Jaden Smith bs this show throws around. I listened to a podcast, Girl on Guy, with Scott Gimple and he loves this sort of crap though so it's not going anywhere.

The too many black people rule is still in full effect.

That was a total waste of 60 minutes. Did we really need this? This show would be immeasurably better if it fully embraced its pulpy, trashy self instead of this continued pretension that it's some high level art shit.

Weird episode. It has some redeeming qualities, but it has some shit parts as well.

Glad Ty is dead. Sounds harsh, but like Andrea Ty's character on the show was pretty damn bad and nothing alike the badass he is in the comics.

they compared this episode to a Terrence Malick film during Talking Dead

I really disliked this episode, one of the worst so far. It just meandered along slowly the whole time with no drive. I hate to be that guy too but just like Andrea they ruined and then killed off one of the best characters from the comics.

this episode was like a special reunion show of dead characters I never gave a shit about, with tyrese aptly joining the team

really awful, plodding start to the back half of the season

I'm shocked no one hear realizes that the radio broadcasts were about South Africa and the Congo.

Tyrese outright explains that his Dad would make them listen to distant world-news just so they could pay their "High cost of living", and be informed.

Those bits were chosen as they were "real" events he would've heard on the radio that also have new meaning in a post-apocalyptic zombie world.

The Walking Dead is the most divisive show on TV. A quiet majority like it while a decent chunk hate it. And episodes lie this show why this show will never be able to please everyone.

No way, I don't see Rick failing to clear a building or leave his guard down like that.

I don't see anyone go into a building without fully clearing it to then just get killed by a ninja zombie, it only happens in the event they need someone to get killed.

Like, why couldn't they have just had a walker fall on him as he opened a door, with the walker getting in a bite on his arm as they both fall? No ninja zombie, just shit luck that doesn't completely forgo the years of survival instincts these guys have built up.

Oddly enough, I think more people watch The Walking Dead so they actively hate on it with their peers at the water cooler/online than because they enjoy it.
Based on that, I encourage them to continue to make the show worst so audiences will continue to grow.

Really liked this episode. Good apocalyptic scenery, desperation, interesting clues of strange things going on.

Sad to see Tyreese go, especially after he decided that living was worth it. The way he was looking at the pictures was almost like he was figuring something out. It was creepy.

Very excited that they are headed to Washington.

Pretty much everything the characters say outside of combat or stealth scenes is just philisophical bullshit. I admit English isn't my native language, but it's tiresome to follow the dialogue when after a long conversation you realize that the characters didn't say anything meaningful.

''It is what it is.''
''You've got a choice.''
''You wasn't wrong or right. There is no right here.''
''You didn't want to be a part of it, but being part of it is being now.''
''Blah blah blah.''

Those might not be straight quotes, but they probably have all been mumbled by someone at some point.

The redeeming quality of this episode was the cinematography. Wonderful athmosphere!

Stealth zombies is lazy writing
people need to stop saying this all the time, I get that this show does have ninja zombies but this was NOT one of them. They camera work, the framing, the sound design was all purposely indicating that Tyreese was zoned the fuckkkk out when he got bit.

It's almost as bad as the black people limit nonsense.

I really wish there was some way the could ret-con the stupidity of the walkers on this show. The first season zombies were scary as shit. Still, the scariest moment in this entire series was Morgan's wife turning the door knob in episode one. If they could all have some semblance of intelligence or even instinct it would go a long way to solving the "ninja zombies" scenarios. It would also make the show better and have a better sense of urgency.

Starting to get burned out on the show. It seems like the story is just meandering now with no direction. It hasn't had much direction for a while but has ridden on pushing the envelope on moral ambiguity and shock tactics. That is getting old now.

well the next story arc is the longest/most focused in the entire series so if that's your complaint it's worth sticking around me thinks. Unless you don't want to...then just don't :p

I liked this episode. Everyone really acted there ass off here. My favorite had to be Michonne's you could just feel the desperation. The whole group knows that Washington is a long shot hell its probably a pipe dream but that little bit of hope is a lot better than "just surviving". Also loved the the radio host was talking about the groups the entire time.

Thank Christ. Chad Coleman has been fantastic, but the TV show assassinated that character so much. Glad to see him gone and I wish Coleman the best of luck, dude is a great actor.

Did no one realize that? I did.

Just saw the new ep, Im glad Off-brand Tyrese is dead.

Sometimes the way the deviate from the comics works but in his case it was just fucked up. Such a great character in the comic.

I put all the blame on Daryl and his fans though. Had he not turned out to be such a fan favorite we may have got the Tyrese we deserved.

TV Darryl > Comic Tyrese

but really they introduced him way too late in the show and deviated too much from hammer time persona.
