Should have just let the franchise die on a high note after Casino Royale. The people in charge of this franchise clearly have no idea what they're doing.

Not a bad choice. Reminds me of Connery's Bond.

Yeah it would definitely work. People just see Bond as a big time action hero these days, I would love it if they went back to more of a 'gentleman spy' angle. Lewis is a very good actor and would probably do a very good job.

Fassbender would be the dream though, if they can get him to do it.

Something about Damian Lewis' face always reminds me of Ed Helms, and that completely prevents me from taking him seriously.

Fuck that to anyone saying Fassbender, Hardy or Elba.

I don't want their careers bogged down trying to re-invent the fucking wheel with the Bond franchise. Depriving us of possible great performances to play James Bond. They are too talented to have 5-10 years of their life monopolized by a hit or miss action franchise.

The guy is 44, I'm not sure I wanna see another old, end of his rope James Bond. Dan Stevens would be a good replacement.

Yeah god forbid Fassbender misses out on a superhero movie or videogame adaptation. Or Elba misses out on.. whatever.

Both are pretty mediocre at picking roles. Bond would be a good career move for both. Fassbender could let that be his big money gig, and do more indie stuff like Shame in between Bond movies. Best of both worlds.

Isn't one of the main arguments against Elba being Bond his age? Lewis is almost a year and a half older and would be nigh 46 (if everything goes without it hitch, which hasn't been the case for the past 10 years) by the time filming on Bond 25 wrapped up. Just go with Elba.

Edit: Why do people keep thinking Craig will drop his last film?

There is nothing to buy, you know that Craig in signed for another film.

Yeah, but I know that his walking has been a possibility for like, two years now. They've left the door open for him to go if he wants to go, it's always been a matter of whether he's willing to leave the money on the table. The premise isn't implausible. What's implausible to me is that Lewis is the guy they have on standby. Especially if names like Hardy, Fassbender, and Elba are viable (and they are).

Oh, I didn't know about letting him go. And Lewis could be a one time thing, like Lazenby, just in case.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Barbara Broccoli's been quoted as saying if he wants out early, they're fine with him walking, and no hard feelings. Trying to find it.

edit: Yeah, here's a pretty recent one from this year.

Q: What is the status on Daniel Craig’s contract? Does he have a certain number of Bond films left?

Wilson: We want him for as long as he’ll have us.

Broccoli: He’s got an open-ended contract.

Looking how much hate Craig got when he was picked as Bond.

This can only end well. Craig can't act so Lewis would be already a big improvement in this regard.

Whoever gets it next, the only requirement is that they get Martin Campbell back, so he can once again define a new Bond only to lead to mediocre to bad sequels.

Let's face it, the nature of blockbuster moviemaking for a global audience is never going to tone down the action.

Same as how the first (and best) Mission: Impossible movie was really a straight spy thriller with a single action scene, and then the series increasingly relied on more and bigger action and the box office has responded positively to that move.

I like Lewis but I hope this is bullshit.

Besides, I would like to see Craig reprise his role one final time in Bond 25. With the introduction of Spectre and Blofeld, I was hoping the story would carry over into the next one. Maybe we can get the Revenge flick we were denied after OHMSS, if they could pull it off.

sam mendes made some interesting stuff prior to bond, he could have been the one to take it back to that route if he wanted to (or was allowed to). but it's clear that aint happening.

agreed with Mission Impossible, I think it's gotten especially formulaic with 4 and 5.

I'd love a cat-and-mouse james bond flick to be made. With some tense moments akin to the casino royale prologue.
