007 "Rumor of the Day" - Damien Lewis set to replace Daniel Craig as Bond in case

In a universe where Fassbender exists, this is a bad choice.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I could see him as Bond, honestly. A different Bond from Craig's, but aren't they all? He'd probably be a cross between Craig Bond and Brosnan Bond.

Yeah, who would ever want the director of the two best Bond's of the last 20 years back, right?

And the director of Green Lantern, Edge of Darkness, and Vertical Limit, too.

And that pulse-pounding thriller No Escape starring Ray Liotta and Kevin Dillon.

GoldenEye's a decent flick. It's not great. Casino Royale is the best Bond film, yeah. I'm not necessarily convinced Martin Campbell is the answer to whatever question is being asked here, a question that presumes Skyfall is a "mediocre" movie, apparently. I don't agree with that. Skyfall is definitely better than GoldenEye is. And we haven't seen Spectre yet, either, so I mean - if EON can go after directors like Mendes, and get them, I don't know why they have to settle for journeyman action directors anymore.

I don't really care about his non-Bond filmography when his only two attempts at Bond have been gold.

GoldenEye's only "decent but not great" now? Wow. Not so long ago, most people considered it one of the best films in the franchise.

Skyfall was a very pretty movie but I really didn't enjoy it that much. It's one of those movies, like Avengers 1 and Dark Knight Rises, that I struggle to watch on repeated viewings because if you take the action scenes out, they're pretty boring movies. I'll give Sam Mendes another go with Spectre but I'm not particularly enthused for his work on the franchise right now. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

You probably should, though. Those movies didn't happen in a vaccuum.

And the fact GoldenEye is considered one of the best films in the franchise says more about the overall quality of the films in the series (most of them are mediocre to bad) than it does the quality of GoldenEye.

GoldenEye is a decent action flick. It's a pretty good Bond.

Anyway, I wasn't convinced when they announced Craig and he's a perfect fit for these new less campy, more gritty bonds!

I'm calling BS. The article states that Craig 'may step down after the release of SPECTRE' but isn't he contractually bound to do one more film, the second-part of the SPECTRE arc?

They didn't happen in a vacuum but GoldenEye and Casino Royale weren't just miracles either. Some people are just better suited at some things than others and Martin Campbell is clearly pretty fantastic at Bond, far better than Mendes has shown so far.

You don't really sound like a Bond fan though, so whatever.

i'd put goldeneye above skyfall any day. the latter is devoid of cheesiness for sure but it's nowhere near as fun a watch either for me.

oh my god is he going to do that head jostling thing while he screams frantically at something shit in Bond too!? noooooo

This is absolutely correct and I say that as a fan of Damien.

His performance in Keane was unreal. If you haven't seen it yet, you should. It will change your mind about this guy if you're on the fence about his talent.

That said, he doesn't have the kind of charm or intensity Craig brings to the table.

He could end up blowing us all way in the end, but I can't shake this feeling that there is a better way to cast this role.

Jean Dujardin, he already played in two french Bond parodies, so he's already experienced ;)

Lewis was perfect in Band of Brothers, don't think he'd be the best choice for a new bond though.

I'm sorry, but Damien Lewis is 44. He'd be 47 by the time another Bond film was nearly ready. It's not going to be him. I do think Michael Fassbender would be a good choice, but even he is probably a little old.

I mean, I like Damian Lewis, but I'm not sure I would like him as Bond. Hardy would make more sense if the franchise were to continue with the current 'ruthless/brutal' Bond trend. Fassbender I would also like very much.

Lewis, yeah... I don't know. He could surprise us, I guess?

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
We will get a black Bond way before we get a ginger one.

They aren't going to cast a 44 year old anyway.

I would be ok with this, love Lewis since BoB.
Funny since he's ginger, is he gonna die his hair for the role?

The one problem I see is that he's pretty old already, right? Would seem like a temporary choice for a trilogy max.

Folks are getting way too hung up on the age, the problem with the later Moore movies was that he had almost no physicality and somehow managed to look older than he actually was, you could 100% have someone else in fifties play a more physical Bond, let alone people starting in their forties.

Smells like bullshit. First of all, Craig has been pretty much confirmed to be doing at least one more Bond film. And second, it seems incredibly unlikely for EON to christen Damian Lewis, of all people, to be the next Bond.

Also:

Producers are convinced it's a particularly strong 007 movie.

Given the considerable writing and production issues this film faced, I find it hard to believe that the producers are this optimistic about the final product.

you can't put a price on sparks
Do people really miss Brosnan, though?

i can't lie -- i do miss the crazy ass campy Bond movies, and i do like him as well. so something semi-ridiculous would be nice. Skyfall was kind of going in that direction already but it played it too seriously.

He could do a good job, but he's too old to be starting now and I doubt the producers are making these decisions while they have a current actor. It's either clickbait or filler.

Fassbender would be good, but I don't know that he'd want to do it or that the bond people would want to pay his rate.

Just give the role to Aidan Turner, make it campy as fuck. Kingsman was the best Bond movie in atleast a decade or two.

Or just go Grandpa Bond and let Iain Glen play him. He'd be like a super serious Roger Moore and be constipated for days. "Prune juice, please. Shaken, not stirred."

I don't get this. Damien Lewis is only a couple of years younger than Craig.

Got to be a smokescreen IMO.

Fassbender, save us.
