1-UP Show/CO-OP Alumni: Kickstarter: VG Culture Docu Series (210K Goal)

It made the goal? Awesome. Would throw money at it if I had extra, loved the co-op stuff. Really sad those aren't being made anymore.

Wow. Either Ryan O'Donnell lost a lot of weight since I last saw him, or there's something different about his hair.

Either way, they've got my money. I LOVED the 1-Up show. Speaking of, I'm assuming Shane B has nothing to do with this now that he's with SCEA?

He was on a recent episode of Retronauts recently, which is a Kickstarter that has paid off very nicely as well.

Speaking of which, now I got to go explain to my wife how much I gave to this thing. (!)

I had a reluctance of backing this. Until I saw the Frank Cifaldi short.

I pledged the lowest blu-ray tier after I saw that.

It's crazy to us to think how fast it all came together during the livestream marathon. What we need now are stories. Lots and lots of them. We've got a ton of leads already, but I'd be super interested to hear from anyone here on topic ideas or people that you think would make great interview/documentary subjects. Big stories and big topics, or small, intimate stories on individuals or groups. One example I always give is military families that use online gaming to keep in touch from afar or folks who are using gaming as a treatment for ADHD and/or depression. We've heard tell of people that have even used gaming as a kind of self-medicating therapy for recovering from trauma. I experienced this myself after the passing of my older brother, so that's kind of near and dear to my heart.

But we're also looking for inroads into subcultres we're aware of as well as any that have been long overlooked. We're extremely interested in Speedrunners, the rise of streaming, Twitch and Let's Plays, etc. as just one example. We'll of course be reaching out to these communities on our own, but no series like this can be made without input from people that know more and have better connections than we do. We're looking for personal connections, academic connections, professional or creative, and so on. So if there's something you think would work well for a story (or whole episode even!) of Outerlands, let us know! You can message me here or email me directly -- matt at area5 and then a dot followed by a tee and a vee

Also, we don't make any money from this, but our doc GROUNDED: Making The Last of Us is now free on Amazon! (US Only for now :( ) - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IHV0W3Y - Give it a look. Even if the content isn't your bag, you should still be able to get a sense of the quality bar we're shooting for.

Since I personally did nothing to make that come together other than scheduling, I can say that short is awesome without sounding like too much of a grandstander, I hope ;).

This is an awesome get.

Now I just need "I Am Street Fighter" in a better bit rate. :)
