This one knows what they're on about.

I doubt the cpu being overclocked will effect anything negatively; it should be basically transparent. If it does affect things it would be the result of really bad practice in the code; I mean seriously if you consider the variance in performance between PC cpu's a small frequency bump to the same core-type is inconsequential comparitively.

I'd anticipate it being a flat overclock.

The fact that there could be bad practice of that sort in the code, something that Sony doesn't enforce, means they can't afford to take that chance.

The PC comparison is meaningless, because the PS4 isn't a PC. It's a console, with a set of fixed specifications that developers can and will optimize around, sometimes in ways that will break if the spec changes.
Consider the New 3DS homebrew that allows for CPU speed unlocking in games not designed for it. Some of them run better for it and work fine, which is great, but some of them don't. Ocarina of Time, for example, has broken sound and hangs the system when you quit. That's not something that a platform holder like Sony can endorse.

Yes, the NEO is probably going to push PS4 development more in the direction of PC-style hardware agnosticism, but that doesn't excuse the fact that the PS4 has a three-year back catalogue of titles built around the assumption that the spec will remain fixed.

Dude, FFXV didn't even come out, the team right now is in full optimization mode till release. Or are they talking about that demo from an old build with zero optimization?
Still would love to see the game on NEO :P

I'd love to see the extra horsepower improve Just Cause 3. I had a lot of fun with #2 but heard so much shit about the sequel I can't be bothered to try it.

I would like to see all those games patched on the Neo, but honestly I would only expect to see Uncharted 4 and MAYBE the Witcher 3 and Gta 5 ( if they got out a GOTY edition or something)

Uncharted 4 though I think is definitely happening. Naughty Dog seemed genuinely disappointed they couldn't get the single player running at 60 fps. They are Sony's flagship developer and by all accounts UC4 is bottlenecked by the gpu not the cpu.

Probably when the single player dlc comes out there will be a Neo patch released simultaneously.

You mean the same people that inform consumers if a game is a technical mess, and have on numerous occasions, actually allowed certain bugs and graphical issues to be addressed and fixed by doing these analysis pre-launch (which they always highlight). This 'clicks' BS needs to stop.

Performance optimisation are the last part of the process when developing games. Spending time and resorces analysing games in Alpha or from conference footage not only is a waste of time as might induce the consumer in error. Thers a reason when u play a demo it says "It may not represent the final version" or something along those lines.

The time they spend milking the same titles over and over since the Alpha state to the release, they could be analysing other games that have been gone gold and not released yet.

Its click fishing, big tittles generate more clicks than a more nich tittle. No developer are reading DF to know how they game runs cuz they KNOW how they game runs.

Good list. FFXV is a game that I'm actually planning on waiting until Neo is out to play through.

I doubt too many old games will get updated but I will be happy for all that do. CDPR seems like the type of studio that would go back and update their game. I'm sure ND will do something since Sony loves having them flaunt new tech but I'm not sure that 60fps will be on the table for SP given that the 30fps cap, as of the PSX gameplay, was due to the CPU not being able to keep up. Most of the games that get updated will likely be those that have more of a service model (The Division, Destiny, etc) or are still being updated with season pass content.

SW BF looks great in its current form. If all games look that good in 900P, I don't think I will ever need 1080P in my life.

Also, I guess all the 3rd parties will be like: fuck, we never asked for this.

After seeing the list I initially thought "why no Fallout 4? That game runs like shit"

Then I remembered that I had no fun playing that game and that it doesn't deserve a spot on this list.

When is neo rumored to come out?
Sometime after today.

There's no way they could pull off getting DS3 and BB to 60FPS.

There's PCs out there better than the projected Neo specs that can't hit 60FPS in DS3 so far.

Final Fantasy XV NEEDS a Neo mode. And I don't mean that in a "I would maybe like a Neo mode" sort of way. It's all but guaranteed to have serious issues running on PS4 vanilla and I don't want a potentially amazing game to get negative reviews over its performance, of all things. Let Just Cause 3 be a warning.

Would love to see a Neo patch for BF4. The game chugs sub 50fps in 64player modes - 1080P would also add needed sharpness. Never going to happen with BF 2016 coming out tho.

Do we have any reason to believe publishers are going to pay for the development and QA necessary for updating "old" titles? I could see a first party title or two being upgraded by Sony as a PR move, but third party games?

If Siny has a PS Store section advertising games that are better with NEO, I could see some developers doing it. Some developers already do free updates and DLC. I'd imagine that at least some of them would do at least a little work to iron out some kinks in frame rate.

My biggest hopes for games out before December are The Witcher 3, Fallout 4 and GTA5. We also may see Driveclub updated to 60fps if there's still a team getting it ready for VR.

I hope a DS4 with improved battery life is also in the works to coincide with the Neo release.
I'd be content with a version that goes into wired mode when plugged in via USB. Silly that wireless is forced - bad for tournament/competitive stuff too.

So do we know that the Neo specs will be such an improvement that they will be able to run a game at 60fps if it can only manage 30 now?

For example, Bloodborne. No way that manages a solid 30fps. I'd guess it drops to ~25. How is the PS4 Neo gonna get those 30-40 extra frames from just an OC'd CPU and an "improved" GPU? If it does indeed use Polaris is that gonna do it?

I just find it unlikely that we'll get double the performance out of it. If anything maybe a small fps boost that would get games like Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, GTA V to run at solid 30fps.

imagine if we get remasters within the same generation. glorious

You don't understand how NEO works, do you? People have been discussing NEO for weeks and yet you didn't bother to do even the slightest bit of research, so I'll help you out.

All improvements to older games will come as a free update. No game or even gameplay feature is allowed to be NEO exclusive. There will not be a "NEO only" remaster of anything.

Great list but I honestly only see the first party games like Driveclub, Uncharted, maybe BB etc. getting updated. I doubt companies like Konami have any real incentive to go back and update their past titles.

Edit: Oh and obviously third party games that aren't out yet. FFXV could definitely have a neo mode when the new PS4 hits.

I'd honestly love to see Street Fighter V get better textures similar to its PC counterpart, as well as solve the select few frame-drops found in one or two of the more power-intensive stages & the removal of shadow dithering. I'd also say make the background elements 60fps, but I'm not sure if the PC version fixed this issue or not.

The 30fps background elements look like a design decision unfortunately.

Forgive my ignorance, but with PS4K, is the plan that you buy the same game as you would on PS4 and it looks and runs better, or is there going to be a specific PS4K version for each game that chooses to take advantage of the new hardware?

Same game, same disc/download. Completely shared library, no 4k exclusives allowed.

Besides FFXV and The Witcher 3, I don't expect any of these to happen. FFXV is obvious, but I don't expect many companies to go back to year old games and improve them. Except CD Projekt Red, considering the revisions they've done to the previous games.

I'd like to see them get rid of the dithered shadows in SFV, add motion blur like the PC version, and a little more AA.

So MGSV's graphical features can't be improved, nor can the GPU bound areas in Witcher 3? How about the lock on Until Dawn? Or getting the stable frame rate in Black Ops III? No offence, but I don't see how the other suggestions are too crazy.

Sure, but unlike GTAV these games probably wont be as active and still make money by the time the Neo comes out.

GTAV MP for all I know (I don´t play it) still makes a ton of cash.

yes! some of the textures can use touching up to. but those lame shdows have to go. game looks mad different on PC due to the things you've mentioned and its a beauty compared to the PS4 version.

a design of what? ass? its as distracting as the character select clipping.

Idk if either souls 3 or bloodborne is possible though...

The engine is more CPU bound than anything, and if a new i7 with a stout overclock has trouble keeping the framerate at 60 I highly doubt a slightly faster jaguar will do the trick.

From doesn't give a fuck anyway. People have been complaining about frame pacing since launch of both games.

Don't think MGSV should be on that list. It's already 1080p60.

Would rather see one of the Assassin's Creed games or Watchdogs get the upgrade.

The one change I do have a lot of optimism for is SFV getting a visual and load time upgrade. Capcom is already supporting the game in the long term and it'd be fabulous to see Neo get the bells and whistles the PC version has

Lol FFXV is months away from release and they are asking for a more stable Neo framerate?

Its gonna be janky when it launches by default, even with the months of optimization. I think they will end up settling the res at 1440x1080 and making the framerate as solid as possible on PS4...that will give neo a lot of legroom
