11 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay

I am looking forward to it, to see if RAD can deliver on consoles. But in my personal opinion it doesn't look better than AC Unity, from what I have seen in all the media. Which is also full screen, I don't see it back in character detail for example, but we will know soon.

As long as the game is fun to play and looks like this I am fine. In my opinion all AAA games look good.

Sold both "next gen" consoles after a year tryout, not for me. Feel free to judge me based on a tag thought ¯_(ツ)_/¯
What is your motivation to post here?
Just continue not playing games. It's fine if you don't like any current games. There are other hobbies out there.

I don't think this is true at all. Any dev worth their salt designs their game worlds with the player's point of view in mind by using the lighting to draw your focus, sight lines, vanishing points, using the environment to frame the gameplay camera, camera distance from the player, depth of field, etc, especially so in a linear game where major sight lines, corridors and entry/exit points in a particualr area will be constant. A user controlled camera doesn't mean cinematography and framing cease to apply.

I agree that cinematography can be used to great effect in the way you describe it, but I don't agree with the view that the borders in The Order is an effective form of framing, I don't think The Order's black borders is the same thing as cropping an image to remove uninteresting material or that it's particular good at drawing the player's attention to a particular subject in a scene. The only place I have seen black borders been used effectively in a video game is in The Evil Within, and not to frame a scene but to create a sense of claustrophobia, and even there I would have preferred to have them removed in favor of a better gameplay experience.

And it should be pretty obvious by the way they've used the vistas in The Order that the aspect ratio wasn't simply a technical band-aid.

Had they chosen a different aspect ratio I'm confident they would have changed the geometry and vistas to suit that ratio, I think the ratio was decided early for technical reasons and then the scenes were created to suit that ratio - that doesn't mean a different ratio wouldn't have been just as good to frame that particular scene (with the added benefit of being nicer during gameplay)

Simply superb. This is the first current gen game across the board that simply blows away last gen visually. Really impressive! I simply don't understand why some people seem to despise variety. There is space in this world for cinematic games as well as open world games, etc. As long as QTEs don't intrude on the gameplay every minute of play, I also like this kind of movie like approach.

Eh in some screenshots maybe. And Unity has got the scale. In terms of visual consistency and overall look though, I think this tanks Unity. Everything looks much more consistent and is modelled better. In fact, I think this is the most consistent game I have seen. The characters don't stand out from the backgrounds. Regarding characters, the NPCs in this at least come closer to the main characters than in Unity (well there are thousands of NPCs in that game).

Goddamn. Leon, I love you but it might be time to step aside.
Doubt the reload will be that detailed when you're actually playing and not picking up a rifle for the first time with a more zoomed in camera. Here is that M84 in action:

It has a long way to touch the likes of RE4/Metro Last Light/FC 3 Blood Dragon/Black ;)

Recently, Ready at Dawn released a new trailer and some screenshots for its upcoming highly anticipated game, The Order: 1886. The developer didn’t reveal much about the game after its initial showcase at E3 2013 but now, the developer has started to uncover information and details about the game. The latest details about the game reveal that the The Order: 1886 polygon count is over 100,000 for each main character of the game

Just a thought, maybe there's more than one reload animation. For eg: in the gif above he's in combat so he will reload much quicker , but if he were just walking down the hallway and decided to reload it will show a different or slower reload animation.

the order 1886 totally destroy unity, in amount of polygons and detail is simply incredible! I can't believe myself. Next generation finally when all the polygon edges will disappear, we will get totally cg quality life-like graphics!

Not to mention it helps having a gif that actually shows the weapon being reloaded, not where the character is blocking the view entirely in movement.

Though of course the detail will likely not quite match the tutorial bit. Still think RE4 is in trouble :P

Is there actually a game that does this, it makes perfect sense to me, but for the life of me I can't think of a game that does it

Is this various reload animation talk based on something or just speculating? Source?

The reload animation in the GIF in the OP is slightly slower and more meaty than the quicker version we saw when Gallahad was running around in the middle of combat.

Shaders ;) and effort, and time, and money and passion...

yeah i suppose it's a complex of thing to get these results, but for me the polycount and detail is higher to my eyes. We are sure that the order characters are 120k only? There's a confirmation ?

I haven't watched the video, nor will I, but I've got the gist of what its content is via the comments here, and I'm glad this slow-paced, explorative gameplay is here to demonstrate that the game doesn't just consist of shooting and nothing else. I like that the adventure genre influence is felt, however slight, and I've always been of the opinion that a little interactivity with the environment in different ways can go a long way.

And I am just a total sucker for item manipulation. Shenmue, L.A. Noire, hnnng love it.

I'm kinda getting Heavy Rain/Beyond vibes from this game, in terms of how it's more of a graphical showcase for the PS4, as those were for the PS3, than an actual game that looks fun to play. From what I've seen I feel it's going to be a looker but fall flat in the game play department, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I can see it disappointing some people.

Whose to say though, I just know personally this game just doesn't do anything for me, I've been trying to see what everyone finds so great about what they've released but it all just looks boring. Hopefully the stories interesting enough to keep people interested, if I had a PS4 I'd rent this to check it out for curiosity sake alone.

I enjoyed playing both Heavy Rain and Beyond, so that sounds like good news hehe ;).

Didn't watch the video because I don't want to be spoiled but I find it damn funny that people bitched that all you do is shoot and do QTE's, but once there is something different like exploring and inspecting objects people still complain. I don't know what you guys expect, but maybe you should realize this game isn't for you and move on.

Being totally honest that was the first thing I thought after I watched that video, I'm not saying is a bad videogame, looks well made, but also looks like the kind of game I really don't wanna play.

I'm sure lots of people are going to enjoy it, power to you. I'm just tired with this type of AAA, probably getting old or something.

Why do people keep pushing this narrative that cinematic TPSs are over-saturating the market?

In fact, over the last two years we got more platformers & survival horror games than cinematic TPSs, two genres that many people on GAF classify as "dead", it's okay to hate the genre, you have every right to, but blaming it on the "AAA industry" is mind-boggling, the entire genre is niche & Uncharted is the only franchise in the genre that is considered mainstream & sells well.

Stop shifting blame here, YOU don't like the genre (& it's okay), but the industry did nothing (like over-saturate the market) to force you to hate the genre, you just don't like it, & that's fine.

Most likely "concern" for other poor fools still playing!

Concern level's intensifying!!!

Not really, I am not going to be getting this at launch. At least currently not planned cause I have no job at my college yet. But if I do get one soon and they pay me soon (sometimes they wait a month to pay you) then I might be in time to make it at launch. I really don't want to see this game fail. :(

Its funny that when they show some cover shooting its just a boring corridor shooter, then they show some QTE and its Heavy Rain. They show some story and its just a movie, they show some slower paced "exploring" and it's a walking simulator (not gameplay). They show the best graphics ever and the bouncing hair breaks immersion.
Yes. And even worse, even sometimes they try to downsize these games saying that PS4 haz no gamez released or coming!

You could cross post this in hundreds of threads on GAF, like a mini game. It could rekindle your gaming spirit, and you might start adding to the conversation again.
