I think it's from someone who works at Gamestop (Bish-checked). Not sure if it's just local/regional numbers or otherwise. Plus I'm sure there's references to Amazon top selling list too factored in.

I don't remember the user though.
Dang. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm expecting lots of 9s and 8s just on the crazy graphics alone.

eh i think graphics alone dont get review scores as high as they used to. Ryse didnt get great reviews and it was a looker for a launch title.

Not saying Order will review bad, just have to wait and see what the full product brings. If they deliver on the gameplay then I would expect those 8s and 9s.

Unfortunately "cinematic experiences" in this gaming age are not going to be looked at in a favorable light. I guess people might assume that it's holding the players hand to lead them through the experience instead of the player experiencing it themselves.

Dang. Thanks for the clarification.

I can't do any digging right now, but it should be brought up in either in:

Gameplay vid thread (one with all the gifs and spoiler tags)

Superbowl spot thread

Interactive site thread (not the ARG, the one that gives the PS4 theme).

Think the biggest thing it will get knocked for is no co-op or multiplayer.

I'm fine with this myself.. single player experiences are far and in between these days.

People often forget that Ryse got a lot of bad review because it's a short game (5-6 hours).
I hope The Order 1886 is longer (Verendus said 8-10 hours).

Hopefully. Just depends on if he is talking about a completionist run or not. Ryse completion run actually takes about 8-10. Plus Ryse had the Arena mode for MP which was actually quite good for what it was.

Fortunately, there just so happens to be 'gameplay' like this to go along with all of the gawking at the visuals:

Do you honestly think that walking around is all you do?

good christ the visuals in this game O.O

Reading some of the posts in here is hilarious. It's as if people just want shoot shoot bang bang and nothing else, devoid of any narrative, world or character building exposition.

These kinds of slower moments in games, Eg walking around the labs in Half Life 2, through the military camps in Call of Duty, walking through the abandoned towns in Last of Us and so on, are some great moments in these games, and what provide less monotonous pacing to a game, with moments of calm before the intense gunfights, and moments that give you a better sense of atmosphere and place in the world. From a game design perspective, what is shown in this particular short video is very well done, everything is very well realised and believable.

Not applicable besides in cutscenes. The artist needs to be in control of the camera for cropping to be a form of framing, when the player is in control of the camera the borders move all over the place, adding artistically nothing. No, the borders in The Order are there to save resources - limiting playability in exchange for for impressive technical fidelity. Not the sexiest explanation marketing wise, I know, and that's why the developers claim, wrongfully, that they ad something cinematography wise - which they don't, because player controlled gameplay is different from movie cinematography. Same thing as with the cinematic video game framerate debate really, marketers making a false analogy between a completely different medium praying on useful idiots to reiterate it.

Yea ... I'm finding it very strange after all the backlash Destiny gets around here for it's lack of a compelling narrative.

Its funny that when they show some cover shooting its just a boring corridor shooter, then they show some QTE and its Heavy Rain. They show some story and its just a movie, they show some slower paced "exploring" and it's a walking simulator (not gameplay). They show the best graphics ever and the bouncing hair breaks immersion.

LMAOOOOOO, the bouncing hair one should be a MEME.
Hair too bouncy. Hair Bounce = { gravitation pull • |speed change| } e^hair density - wind turbulence. Slows frames to show what may or may not be a INCORRECT OUTPUT. Preorder CANCELED. I am a horrible engineer.

Not applicable outside of cutscenes..

what a bunch of bs
wide screen framing is a stylistic choice with a distinct visual flavor that doesnt vanish the moment you move a stick and find your charcter moves.

it may very well be that it was technically key to reach the overall visual quality they wanted, but that doesnt mean you can pretend it has no effect.

With the orchestral music and grand settings the framing appears to fit. If you find the picture too small vertically, sit 20% nearer the screen.

I don't think that's the actual reload animation in combat right ^^: ?
I could find this bit from one of the demos they showed off.

It probably looks a bit extra awkward through the player twitching around, but I don't think RE4 is going to be kicked off the throne yet.

I don't think this is true at all. Any dev worth their salt designs their game worlds with the player's point of view in mind by using the lighting to draw your focus, sight lines, vanishing points, using the environment to frame the gameplay camera, camera distance from the player, depth of field, etc, especially so in a linear game where major sight lines, corridors and entry/exit points in a particualr area will be constant. A user controlled camera doesn't mean cinematography and framing cease to apply. And it should be pretty obvious by the way they've used the vistas in The Order that the aspect ratio wasn't simply a technical band-aid.

Just because most games think "cinematic" means "cutscenes and quick time events", but don't make good use of tried and true visual artistry in gameplay to actually look cinematic doesn't mean it's not a thing that's possible. I'll continue to refer to Shadow of The Colossus in discussions like this. Just look at the camera behavior and environmental design in that game if you don't think these things makes a difference.

That looks like an economical reload animation so the player gets right back into the fight. Probably a good thing if they want to keep combat pacing up, but it definitely doesn't stack up to the RE4 reload.

I also think your wrong since from opening of the video when he is going around the table... the wide angle framing worked perfectly.

Do not regret selling my PS4

I am doing the same cause I have two. Will come with a free WII U.

I totally agree with you, but they are also moments you want to experience for yourself, not see in a promotional video or as part of a site's early coverage. That's my take at least. They've just been showing so much of the story parts as part of their lead up to the game's release.

This is a leaked video from someone who's gotten the game early. Honestly I think RAD has been very guarded about the game and barely shown anything.

Being totally honest that was the first thing I thought after I watched that video, I'm not saying is a bad videogame, looks well made, but also looks like the kind of game I really don't wanna play.

I'm sure lots of people are going to enjoy it, power to you. I'm just tired with this type of AAA, probably getting old or something.
