141.6 GB for Marvel's Avengers on PS5!? I thought PS5 was supposed to make file sizes smaller.

Did the developers think they were making a Call of Duty or something? A lot of game sizes seem to get SMALLER on PS5 when compared to the PS4 version, but definitely not all of them. This is on PS Plus Extra, so I thought maybe I'd give it a shot, but not if it's going to take up three games worth of storage.

Is there a logical reason why some developers have games near the same file size for PS4 and PS5 versions, some have way smaller for PS5, and some have way larger?

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Pretty cool, right?

One thing I don't get about this outrage about file sizes of games is that, when you put it to perspective some linear games were 50gbs 15 years ago. So to me games being substantially larger with 32x times of ram to play with doesnt seem odd.

The issue of the size of the ps5 SSD memories is a fucking disaster.

It would still be forgiven that the size was more compact in the ps5 video games or that there was a 4tb SSD, but not even that.

For me it is one of the worst problems of ps5.
But most of the 3rd party titles are smaller in size than on PC and Xbox.. Some up to 70% smaller in size.

The smaller size SSD in PS5 has more room for games cause it has superior compression.

The only problem are devs who doesn't use the tools given by Sony to compress their games.

15 years ago? 15 years ago install sizes were like 15GB and that was considered big and there was a LOT of outrage and console wars 15yrs ago about mandatory installs because most games read from the disc and didn't need installing.

Now though you have a Series S with a measly 364GB usable storage meaning you'd be able to install about 2 or 3 Avenger sized games before you have to shell out extortionate prices for more storage.

Developers are not all created equal.

Just because people were given a brain at birth that doesn't mean they use it well.

Considering that PS3 already had BR-sized games, iirc eg MGS4, MGS:R, GoW3, Uncharted3 incl. 3D had around 50GB. It's a miracle games didn't already explode in the PS4-gen and are mostly also in that ballpark still.
I think two drives (256GB SSD +2 or 4TB HDD) or a rather convential SSD would have been the much wiser choice for this gen, how little games actually need so far the max speed.
The fast but somewhat small PS5-SSD feels like DS4-Touchpad or sort of like Cell. Tech that's interesting, but in essence unnecessary and cheaper achieveable through different means.

It makes them smaller IF they take advantage of those features. These guys clearly gave zero shots about making reasonable filesizes.

Textures really.
Think what you want about the game itself, it does have some great texture work and the high resolution ones are just going to eat up space, no way around it.

I think Square-Enix are trying to make sure that people uninstall this bland insipid excuse for a game. It looks nice visually but that is the only thing it has going for it in my opinion. A dreadful game otherwise.

This... But another thing.

Open your eyes.

Compare the size of a game from the early years of ps4 which was 20 GB to a maximum of 40 or 50 GB... In the end we got red dead redemption 2 and the last of us 2 which needed 2 discs to install and play, more than 100gb...

Now imagine those of ps5, it will see a moment that the memory of the current console is only for a video game.

Who cares? Is anyone here actually playing it or ever intend to play it? Aren’t we past pretending to be outraged at this crap almost none of us played in the first place?

Those early games were the same sizes across platforms? - and later games kept being the same sizes across platforms through the whole generation.

Rumor has it the real size is actually 20gb. The other 130gb is an elaborate plot from the developers so users don't have to suffer through the game.

The same reason call of duty takes up 200+ GB. The developers don’t give a shit. They probably secretly hope that it’ll eat up all your space and you’ll go “I guess I’ll just keep playing this instead of buying a new game and having to uninstall this one.”

This is not a PS5 problem. This is a dev problem.

Yup. Its not magic, if you want to see the benefit of the tech, then you have to code for it.
Something that may or may not happen based upon circumstances. For example if you are pushing out multiple platform SKU's it may not be practical to repackage and maintain PS5 specific asset deployments.

What's the Series X install size for this game?
I've never played it. I checked on Gamepass and it said 95GB for Xbox One X.

I.E. CoD Warzone and other multiplat GaaS examples.
