I can very well discern what I would like to play in the first place, so I never end up "hating" anything.

Sonic for me, I never understood how to play those games, they tout how fast you can run but every time you do something stops you dead on your tracks, so you can't go fast for more than 3 seconds, then if you try to go "Mario" Sonic is always on constant acceleration, so platforming feels weird, not very precise. I'm talking of 2d sonic here of course.

1. Resident Evil (love the story/chara....gameplay can die in a fire)
2. Half-Life
3. Devil May Cry (gameplay is ok.....Dante is just super lame I can't stand him)
4. 3D Mario Games that don't say "Kart" or "64"
5. Dragon's Dogma
6. The Last of Us
7. Horizon
8. Monster Hunter
9. Portal
10. Morrowind
11. Ace Attorney
12. Gears of War
13. Alan Wake (remedy blows in general)
14. "Marvel" games that aren't fighters
15. Forza Horizon games (aka the worst of both worlds)

I feel like this belongs in the controversial opinion thread, so let us spice it up a little but you only get 10.
  1. Smash Bros. Garbage tier game.
  2. Apart from XCOM 1&2. Turn based games put me to sleep.
  3. Deep RPG games. Fuck your skill tree build.
  4. Ass Creed franchise. Content filler simulator 3000. (except Blackflag)
  5. COD. Go twitch play with your digital army doll.
  6. BotW. Forget your degrading weapons and endless gathering.
  7. Anything Telltale Games. The problem is choice - Neo.
  8. Crackdown 3. Way to ruin the original.
  9. Star Fox Zero. It's in the name, Zero interest.
  10. Duke Nukem Forever. Too late for good FPS, too early for Boomer Shooter revival.

any and all artificially difficult games. This includes roguelikes, soulslikes, soulsbournes, whathaveyous, etc

I can appreciate intellectual difficulty such as a complex puzzle or a mystery to be solved. That is a skill you can learn regardless of age or physical ability.

But in the soulsbourne type games, the difficulty stems from combat, and only combat. It requires fast reflexes, supreme hand-eye co-ordination and rote memory to anticipate enemy moves. This is not possible for many people (including me) and it gets worse with age. And for most of these games, combat is the main gimmick, they have nothing else to offer.

And as for roguelikes, the main gimmick they offer is........a punishing failure state ? You lose all your progress if you die and you start over. Is this supposed to be a test of skill or a test of patience ?

I play games as a recreational activity. By definition, it should be relaxing and chilled out, not difficult. It is supposed to take me out of my dreary reality and escape into a fantasy world for a few hours, where i can be and do anything i want. And i dont want to grind, i dont want to git gud, i want to enjoy myself.

New God of War (2018, Ragnarok)
Horizon ZD/FW
FF13/15/16
Nier
Call of Duty
Any Sports Game
Pokemon non-Legends
Minecraft
Fortnite

1. Call of Duty (how the fuck are these still popular? whenever I say PS3/360 consoles are not retro, this series comes to mind. people are still basically playing the same type of fucking games that came out on those consoles)

2. Elden Ring (Hate may be a strong word, because I like plenty of games in the genre...but I don't see why this one became the breakout hit that it is. I played it a bunch when it came out, and felt the open world was designed poorly. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are better examples of the genre)

3. Persona 5 (again, hate may be too strong, but Persona 4 was a much better game, and it doesn't get nearly as much love. Persona 5's characters and story were much worse to me.)

4. Metaphor Refantazio (this game...I beat, and the more I played, the more i couldn't wait for it to be over. I kept hoping something cool would happen with the story, but it doesn't....the characters didn't appeal to me at all. This game also just really shined a light on the fact that this dev team needs to do something new with their game structures, because the same damn progression of all Persona games was really coming through in this...)

5. The Last of Us 2 ( fuck this game, and fuck neil druckmann)

6. Dota 2 (fuck this genre for killing RTS games that used to have good story campaigns in addition to the multiplayer modes, but Dota 2 was really bad in general out of all the MOBAs I played.)

7. World of Warcraft (this game for some reason was the breakout hit of the genre, when I had played numerous better MMORPGs before and after it. Plus it doomed the genre to nothing but copy cats for over a decade after, until it eventually died mostly.)

8. Madden (all of them. ignoring the fact that I hate football in general...at least at one time, there could be fun games for the sport that anyone could enjoy. football fans must be some of the dumbest people in the world to constantly put up with this garbage, and just buy it because "well it's the latest football game"...how about use your brain and tell these companies you want better, and stop buying it!)

9. Destiny (another game that fucked up gaming for a long time. This shit started the really bad trend of a lot of the "live service" games we have now...shipping a game that has shit for content, and is just tedious as hell. The first game grew to eventually be alright, but i still couldn't believe the state it launched in and was considered a complete game...then they had the audacity to charge for more content when it was lacking. people just put up with also, so we keep seeing that shit. Destiny 2 is arguably a lot worse though, because you try booting up that game now if you never played it before, and you're bombarded with all kinds of live service bull shit, that i legit felt i didn't know what to do!)

10. Grand Theft Auto V (even if you like this type of game, which I have had fun in them before myself, but I honestly find the open world of GTA5 to be kinda boring, with very little to actually do in it)

11. Balatro (as someone who also played this game a lot, I feel comfortable saying...this game isn't actually fun. it's just addicting. It hooks you, but i feel no satisfaction after playing it)

12. Spider-man 2 (holy shit, what a letdown. I remember thinking the first game was pretty good. this sequel did nothing but add things I hated. Also fuck Miles Morales, his voice makes me want to bash something. No, as a superhero, it is not my job to make sure a gay guy asks another gay guy out to a dance, ugh. I swear, more people are gay in this universe then straight. Let's make Black Cat, a character known for chasing Peter Parker...into a lesbian. Fuck off)

13. Mario Kart World (this game is feeling like such a downgrade from Mario Kart 8. 8 struck a balance to me where it was fun, and competitive. World is nothing but a fucking item fest, and you can go from first to last in an instant constantly. i hate it)

14. Octopath Traveler (JRPGs are fun not just for their pixel art, or their combat...the writing has to be fun or interesting...both these games have such tedious boring writing, and with that, my interest in actually playing them plummets. I couldn't finish either)

15. Chinese anime waifu gacha games (these games use an art style that would total appeal to me, but fuck gacha bull shit. I actually played Genshin impact for a little while...played it so much for a period that i actually reached the end of all available quest content....fuck these games that basically release incomplete, and sell you shit, and just release stuff slowly overtime. they basically want you to live and breath this one game, and no thanks!)

Souls/Rogue like
Gran Turismo
Forza Horizon
Call of Duty
Fifa
Devil May Cry
Assassins Creed
Final Fantasy
Bioshock
Minecraft

Etc.

What a pile of absolute coma inducing SHIT. If that's all there were available to us I'd have stopped playing games years ago.

Only FPS based on real world events, such as Call of Duty situated in Iraq or such places. Becomes a bit to close to the real world events that I followed on the news where real people were killed. I do not really want to reenact that.

The big 2 for me :
GTA
Mario

No interest at all in this franchise. I don't get the high praise for them at each new announcement.

Nier : Automata is another one. I should give it another go but after a bit less than 10 hours, aside from the atmosphere and potential story, I find it extremely meh for not saying bad. Combat is shallow, world empty and some very questionable mechanics and design choice (constantly constantly camera and put some bad angles on purpose to impair your vision is just stupid).

After there is all the Fortnite, sports games etc... Because I am not into it.

- FromSoft Souls games
- Red Dead Redemption series (I hate westerns, I think it is a very uninspired period of History)
- Borderlands
- Call of Duty (I like Battlefield more)
- pretty much any Zelda game besides BOTW
- Xenoblade series

If I could have 20 slots and list GTA in all of them, it still wouldn't convey my hate for that stuff clearly enough.

Anyway:
GTA
Sonic
Gran Turismo
The Last of Us
Souls after DS2
Gears of War
RE: Code Veronica
Doom Eternal
MGS2
Axiom Verge
Luigi's Mansion 1
Tetris Effect
Pokemon Yellow
Quantum Break
Control

there's not many that people love that I truly can't stand.

but the award usually goes to the painfully insufferable fanbases.

Undertale/Deltarune definitely takes a top spot in that situation, it's a "smart game" for dumb people.

"YoU DoNT AKSHullY HaVE To FIghT tHE MoNSterS" is like the Last Jedi level of video game subversion.
