2.2 Million People Were Willing to Pay $100 to Play College Football 25 3 Days Early

Sadly this game suffers from the same things that make Madden a terrible experience, mainly the animations and scripted gameplay.

Wait, there is an early access option that also includes Madden and early access to it? Why wasn't this mentioned because doesn't that make this 5 bucks for early access for each game?
The MVP bundle includes he Deluxe ($100) editions of both games for $150 ($135 on EA Play/GPU).

Just to give you an idea of how cherished college football is in the US

This is actually a super fun thread even if you don't care about it, there's a lot of interesting obscure facts here

Edit: In the US, in a general sense you don't often say "I went to So-And-So University", you just say "I'm a [Mascot Name]" and people know where you went to school

While I do agree we are..something. UK and maybe FIFA? Especially if early access and a limited edition player?

Will be interesting to see how many people pay to play Star Wars : Outlaws early.

I really hope this doesn't start to become a thing.

(not that it affects me, to be fair - I usually wait 3 months after launch before buying a game..!)

I suppose they are not quite as bad as theme park fast passes - at least you get more content, albeit some of that is questionable.

EA has not had a college game out in years, so I get the hype for this if you love the sport.

Gerstmann mentioned something on his podcast about how some people are buying consoles exclusively to play this.

You didn't have to buy the expensive deluxe edition to play early. EA Play subs also had early access to a 10 hr trial, which paid for itself with the 10% discount you get on buying the full version if you like it.

This is a one-time phenomenon from 11 years of pent-up demand.

Everybody put down your pitchforks. Buy some EA stock and relax.

I am not surprised, I rarely play football games but Madden seems like it has been disappointing the hardcore fans for a few years. NCAA is pretty big so I suspect a lot of people have latched on to this hoping for something different in their football game.

The people waiting aren't the "prey" here. It's the people with no willpower, an addiction, a YouTube or Twitch channel that absolutely needs to be there day one, a parent's credit card...

This also discourages physical sales.
The term predatory should be used for actual harmful things such payday loans or jacking up the price of necessities like medications etc. Not some video game where the alternative for not wanting to pay some extra amount of money is to just wait 3 days. Is making someone wait 3 days to play a video game predatory? No it is not.

And this stupid "think of the people with no willpower" justification is really just a smokescreen for not wanting to pay. Like do you have the same energy when fat chicks say oh I'm fat because I have no willpower these predatory companies taking advantage of me by making food taste so good. HELL NO what we tell these fatties is get some willpower and stop eating so damn much.

I hate to break it to you, but…

Etc.

Was all set to buy this game until I found out the cross-play doesn’t work for Dynasty Mode. Who made that stupid decision? I really wanted to play it with friends, but they got it on Xbox and I have a PS5. Why no PC version?

Soured me on buying it at all.

Crazy for loving all sports? NCAA football is huge, and it’s where the NFL drafts its players.

What, you’re only interested in kicking a soccer ball around that nobody here gives a shit about.
"crazy for loving all sports" Except the ones that we dont give a shit about. LMAO.

I wonder what the ncaa cut is for the game
Zero. They don't have the NCAA license. The reason that the college football games ended in 2014 was because they couldn't get the license anymore due to the NCAA's various legal issues

This game exists because it's now possible to directly pay players and schools due to NIL and related legal battles

EA Sports FC works the same way. No FIFA license, no problem!

The reality is video games are a crazy cheap hobby compared to like every other hobby that exists. The market will pay for things they want, that's how capitalism works
Yup. I'm going on a charity golf tournament organized by one of my biggest client at one of the top courses in the area. It's two days with catering, 8k per foursome. It's going to be a hellish event for me since my best round was when I was 16, but it's the cost of doing business, gotta be there or my competitors will be the one doing their pitch with the higher ups. Will probably be my only rounds this year (which is why my best round was so long ago).

What I really like doing in my time off is playing video games. Insanely cheap compared to drinking at a bar, going to sit-down restaurants, traveling to Europe, etc.

Don't worry, with retarded mentality like this they'll become less than peasants in a couple years 😂

They can soon enjoy playing NCAAF on the local NES at the street shelter...the new home for "non peasants".
I would hope people aren’t that dumb.

A $70 game, let alone an extra $30 to play it early, shouldn’t be setting someone back if they can afford to drop a couple hundred on a new system.

I'm having a good time with it, but I am a little more than frustrated that the cpu can literally hold you in place as the play is going right past and behind you.

Like I can't disengage from being blocked, at all.

At least twice now I've had the cpu running right by me as I'm being blocked and the blocker won't let me go despite my back being to the ball carrier.

I've also noticed that when the cpu wants to score, there's nothing you can do to stop them. My defense will literally take the worst angles possible so the cpu can stroll right into the end zone.

I'm still enjoying the game, but these things are very frustrating.

Shouldn't games be $150 just from inflation since 2019?

Just increase the price. Consumers (self most definitely included) are gluttons for punishment and will pay up.

I'm certainly not one of them. Paid the $70 and that's it, not spending any money on mtx. I dunno if I will be buying next year's game. Don't get me wrong, the game is fun but it has a lot of problems. Even with those problems gameplay wise, my biggest pet peeve right now is formation subs( will not let me before the game or at least let me change it in the damn depth chart menu instead during playcall). That's really grinding my gears. This game is missing basic QOL features like that, that should have been there day 1.

Who cares. I paid $100 30 years ago to play Phantasy Star IV. Why? Because I really wanted to play the game & I could afford.

I bet if COD took a 10 year hiatus, you’d have 10M people paying xtra to play it early.
