2 months on, who finished Assassins Creed Shadows?

I had hoped this wouldn't turn into another Valhalla situation.

But I am worn out, and other games is now taking its place.

And now I am gonna spend the next few months nitpick-playing this shit because I can't accept skipping an Assassins Creed game.

Who here finished this and how long did you take doing it? Did you feel it was as draining as Valhalla?

Cause I feel like it's Valhalla-light right now, not as extreme but still way too big.

Platinumed it. Very average game after all is said and done, imo. Checking my game time....

Edit: Something wrong with the PS5 hours played. Says it is only 6 which is obviously very wrong.

Clocked about ~90 hours in the game, but it's with a lot of messing about. Tired of it right now, Oblivion has taken its place, will probably pick it up again in a few months to finish it.

I'm currently burnt out after platinuming Valhalla and trying to push through the DLC 😂

I'll probably take a break and finish it later this summer. Shadows if I ever play it will be on the PS6.

Bailed out after 20 hours, the game already show everytning it has to show by the 10 hour mark depend on how much you rush (and what is on show is decent\mediocre at best other than graphic)
It was somehow a worse game than origins and odissey but better than valhalla i guess.

Another 6,5 banger from ubisoft, thank god for pc ubisoft pass.

I have not finished it because I am waiting for more patches to have a better experience, they will improve parkour, add headgear during cut scenes, and they are going to bring many improvements and more content. The gameplay loop for me personally was really good, exploring Japan is awesome and even more when you have these amazing graphics, the problem is the story and the variety of missions, they are not great to be honest. I have played it almost 100 hours and a big chunk of it comes from the hideout building minigame which is super addictive and very deep

Forgot about it actually haha. I didn't finish it.

18.7 hrs on record
last played on 19 Apr
Assassin's Creed Shadows

That was enough, I got bored of it. Dropped it for Clair Obscur and a replay of some old games.

40 hours in, I'm still having a blast but I have also been playing some other games so my progress has slowed down. Definitely finishing it though.

Edit: I've started watching Shogun and it's done wonders on making me want to play.

Better than Valhalla, not as good as Odyssey. 7.5 or 8 out of 10 type game sounds about right. The bloat drags it down a bit, which is a problem with all the modern AC games.

Sounds about right. The combat is much better than Odyssey, but it loses on the bloat part. It just throws all the story quests at you at the same time and half the time I'm not even sure which part I'm advancing, just chasing the closest quest icon without knowing what's going on.

Actually uninstalled it yesterday, lol.

Can't imagine ever installing it again. Unbelievable waste of time (after the initial 8 hours).

No buy.

Learned my lesson after Origins (which I semi-enjoyed). These games are unnecessarily huge and time consuming.

I've killed those 12 fuckers but I have some missions to complete before the credits roll. Couldn't care less about the story tbh I have no idea who I am killing and why. I'm 42 hours in btw.

Not me. 43 hours in, still trawling round. Still have 87/100 shitty bandits to kill. Still have new random circles popping up on the board with another round table of targets.

The game is beautiful but pretty much every mechanic chosen is pure tedium

Not yet, I shouldn't have started it as I didn't finish Rebirth yet, nor Astro (I'm still catching up 2023 and 2024)

Didn't even buy the motherfucker!

TBF I still need to finish Hitman WOA, Indy on PC and get a few games of Civ VII in. Is it actually good? I assumed Nvidia paid a bunch of influencers to rave about the graphics on 5090s as usual.

If you finished AC shadows then you don't have taste in gaming.

I somehow knew Topher will be first reply, he fricken completed(not just played for a bit, fricken completed) all previous boring af AC games too :D

I think I'm 40 hours in and halfway through it, but I put it on hold to play some other games. I'll return to it, finish it, and maybe even platinum it after I'm done playing Clair Obscur.

Dropped it after 15 hours.

Found it awful tbh, and I would not recommend it at all. Great graphics, ok stealth gameplay, everything else is terrible.

Writing and story in particular are abysmal beyond belief, way worse than every other modern AC (which were already pretty bad on that front)

As someone who was obsessed with these games up until the Unity debacle, can I ask why?

The story is so convoluted and detached from what made it interesting in the first place. You are under no obligation to finish Shadows, the franchise is dead narratively speaking.

And it's not even recent either. The story has been a dumpster fire for over a decade now.

Been playing it in short sessions with big breaks so that i wont burn out. Level 30ish i think, so maybe 4-5 months away from being done at this pace, i find these games more enjoyable if you treat them like a weekly tv show.

I am 27 hours in and I am enjoying it a lot. Gameplay-wise its the Tenchu game I always wanted on current gen.

I did like 2 or 3 story missions and I am mostly just exploring and invading castles with Naoe. Yasuke gameplay is too clunky so I only play with Naoe.

I am playing slowly because I am playing other games too. I am rotating it between Khazan, Rise of The Ronin, Skull and Bones, MH Wilds, Doom Dark Ages and The First Descendant.... So yeah... I might finish it this year... Maybe...

I finished it. Mid.
Amazing graphics and weather. Pretty good characters. Ok music.

Terrible unfinished story.
Nonsense about 2 characters. This is a naoe game clearly but her story is not finished.

Unity was the last AC game that I was interested in and finished. Everything that came after was just not interesting to me anymore, especially when they started to bloat the franchise up with RPG bullshit.

I got around 40 hours into AC Shadows, then for some reason got hyped for Ghost of Yotei and challenged myself to finish GOT for the first time and I ended up getting the platinum trophy yesterday.

I will get back to AC Shadows, but whether I complete the game or not is very much up in the air. GOT had the perfect sized open world for my personal tastes, whereas AC Shadows map is waaaaaaaaay too large.

As someone with limited game time, I need a certain level of progression from each session and AC Shadows was beginning to take liberties. It actually made me appreciate GOT so much more as a better designed game overall. I grew to enjoy the fox dens and Shrines. Also, the duels are awesome. The side characters are also much more memorable, as are their respective missions.

I'm pretty pumped for GOY right now.

The only things AC Shadows has over GOT are visuals and stealth. In my humble opinion.

I'm just waiting for the season to change before doing the last legendary animal then I'll have the platinum.

EDIT: 101 hours so far.

5 hours in I was like: meh, story is boring and cliché but it's been a while since I played an AC so, cool!
10 hours: this start to be REAAAAALLY boring, and the story is still very bad...
15 hours: I'm done, it's beautiful but it's the only thing the game has for himself

That's where I was at the end. Naoe standing in a safe house for hours in real time waiting for a year worth of seasons to pass and then waiting for night time to come around. Among the worst design decisions in the game, imo.

Platinum on PS5 at about 105 hours. Loved it. Another great AC. I do wish there were more missions that didn't involve checking a board, go to a location, look for clues, go somewhere else to look for more clues, maybe even again, then go and kill 'em. I would have liked it to be a bit more…organic/seamless, if that makes any sense. Still, a damn fine game, IMO, and my favorite of 2025 so far.

Haven't played Shadows myself but this sounds annoying.
