OF COURSE HE WOULD SAY THAT

Wow, looks like you were right! Apparently Lynch really DID film something new that was Twin Peaks related for the upcoming Blu-Ray Disc. It appears that the casting call rumor was actually true, based on a new interview with Ray Wise. More info at Fangoria: http://www.fangoria.com/new/excl-ray-wise-confirms-twin-peaks-lynch-directed-blu-ray-promo/

Somebody should unlock the "Lynch filming more 'Twin Peaks', maybe Bluray release related, otherwise coffee rains" thread, because it really is happening again.

Ok finally working my way through it. I think i am on episode 5 now

I LOVE Detective Cooper, he is amazing.

I dont care for how everyone is cheating on everyone.
I love how when they are looking for a letter J, like everyone has J in their name.

Some hot girls, some weird scenes. All in all its just ok so far. I'm not "hooked" like I thought i would be. Still gonna try and finish season 1 today. I dont know if its living up to the hype yet though

Yeah just did. Just completed season 1 mmmm

However I think this might be the most overrated show of all time. Maybe it was good back when it came out. But this does not hold up
Not accounting for tastes, I do not comprehend how one say Twin Peaks is overrated. It didn't just create ripples in media when it debuted, it created waves.

I've watched the first 8 or 9 episodes but was getting so bored I kind of quit. I really wonder if I show go back and finish it.

Yeah something that created waves in 1990 wouldn't necessarily be a raindrop to some of the TV shows we have gotten recently. I think i have pretty open tastes with TV shows. But i just dont think this holds up. And I only say overrated because I have never seen anyone say anything bad about it on GAF, and all the great stuff i hear around here. The first episode of season 2 had a 5 minute scene of an old guy not helping someone who got shot..it wasn't funny..it wasnt even awkward..it was just annoying..it didnt feel like it belonged in anyway.

Twin Peaks is my favorite show of all time.

I dont mean this snarky or to sound like a dick..but have you watched any other TV shows? And how old are you? Maybe if you saw this during its initial run it could be considered great..but..meh. I also read season 2 wasnt very good? And there isnt even really any mystery with the show that I can even see...just a bunch of people trying to cover up their own nonsense

Yeah you're right this isn't one of the most popular and highly regarded television shows or anything. I'm 21 watched 3 years ago and yes I've watched many, many TV shows.

Maybe it's just not for you.

I think the huge resurgence in it's popularity, the past few years especially, is enough of a testament as to how well it holds up. It's clear that it hasn't gripped you and it is that kind of show. If you don't see any mystery there and if you don't think the dragged out scene of the old guy fits in any way you clearly don't like what Twin Peaks is offering. That's one of the Lynch directed episodes too.

Season 2 is great until the mystery of who killed Laura Palmer is solved, their hands were more or less forced to reveal that. But if you don't like Season 1 you'll hate season 2. But I don't know why people who enjoyed the first often write off the entire second season, because it has some of the best moments and episodes. It is true that after the killer is revealed the show takes a serious dip in quality, but the final episode is beyond great. I still don't think any tv ending has surpassed the final scene.

I hold Twin Peaks above Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome...any other great show you might name. Some people who create those shows do the same, David Chase, the creator of The Sopranos, has often said how influential it was for him. And then things like The Killing (original and American) wouldn't exist without it. It's almost impossible to think of a murder mystery now in television without thinking of Twin Peaks. More and more shows these days are doing more than just being influenced by it, many are actively copying it now.

I watched season 1 of this show for the first time over the last two weeks and it was so boring, cheesy, dull and often annoying. The damn music was so repetitive! Talk about overusing the same themes over and over and over. They had literally like 4 whole tracks in the entire season and kept using them inapprorately and by the end I was so sick of hearing these themes.

I didn't find it engaging, story wasn't interesting, moved too slowly, characters werent believable, acting was ropey. I will not be going back to season 2 that's for sure.

As a point of reference watched House of Cards episode 1 of season 1 for the first time yesterday and just this one episode I enjoyed more than the entire season of Twin Peaks.

I think Twin Peaks was a show for its time and only memorable because it stood out and there wasn't anything else back then to compare it to. It does not hold up well today at all and just comes off as ridiculous and hokey. Nowadays shows have improved tenfold in quality and quantity and are so much better for it.

I watched Twin Peaks for the first time 2 or 3 years ago and it instantly became one of my favourite TV shows. It might not be as easily accessible as modern TV shows, but I think the show is all in all amazing upt the reveal of the murderer. Well, after that it gets super-shitty and I never got the love for the finale so I'd reccommend to stop after the reveal episode.

I disagree. I watched the entire series for the first time last year and I loved it. It has its unique atmosphere (the weirdness and awkwardness included) and a really memorable cast. Plus, Agent Cooper is one of the best protagonists ever. You may not like it, but you can't really say that people favor this show just because it was made in early 90s.

The repetitive music was a design choice, to give the show more abstract and dreamlike feel, if I remember correctly. Watched the show for the first last year and didn't feel aged at all! Really enjoyed the story and everything about the show. Twin Peaks is supposed to feel a bit off, the characters and the town itself. All a part of the charm for me personally. It's not your average mystery show.

Guarantee I'm going to screw up this post? Yeah.
Every time I see this thread I want to watch the show again. Stop bumping it! :p

Twin Peaks sits in a tier of television shows alongside The Prisoner and The Twilight Zone. No other shows shook things up as much as those three did. No other shows continue to find new audiences on the same level. No other shows get quoted as much as clear inspirations for the television of today.

House of Cards is pretty mediocre through the one (same) episode I saw

You're picking up on things in Twin Peaks and not necessarily describing them wrong but you are describing its aesthetic as bad when it really seems like you're just attuned to the flashy antihero heavily mechanized aesthetic that's so played out on TV currently. which is fine so are a lot of people. but Twin Peaks is...I mean it's Lynchian, it's playing with soap opera conventions and some slightly avant-garde techniques to accomplish something very specific and I think unforgettable.

also lol at the idea that there wasn't anything back then to compare it to, that opinion more than anything evinces that you probably haven't branched out in TV much to actually know about what came before shows airing now. as if Hill Street Blues, MASH, Cheers, and The Twilight Zone weren't amazing important shows that still hold up today

I guess I should watch The Prisoner then? Twin Peaks and Twilight Zone being two of my favourite things.

Yes, if you dig the surrealism of Twin Peaks and The Twilight Zone, you'll find a lot to like about The Prisoner. Make it the original though, don't bother with the remake miniseries.

Imho, I find most contemporary genre shows, i.e. True Blood, Almost Human, Grimm, The Walking Dead, etc. to be completely terrible compared to Twin Peaks. For a show written in 1990, most modern fantasy/horror shows couldn't dream of being as good as Twin Peaks in their wildest dreams. Yeah, I guess maybe something like Breaking Bad is "better", but that show had zero mythology and never even attempted to do what David Lynch strived to achieve.

Twin Peaks is the only TV show that has ever legitimately scared me, especially the first time I watched the reveal of the murderer.

During last year's retrospective, I believe someone in the production team mentioned that any given episode was only allowed one new original track by Badalamenti. Also, the music is amazing. I feel really bad that there are people that actively dislike it, but that's their choice, I suppose.

Twin Peaks is great because it's different. It does meander a bit in season 2 with the side character subplots, but I can't imagine finishing season 2 and not being like "oh shit, what happens next?" and being bummed that there's no real answer since there was no S3.

This is honestly what I was praying for the entire time they talked about getting a TV property they wanted to do for a long time, but that turned out to be Game of Thrones.

Lay them blu-rays on me, Lynch.
