Here's an alternate Coop avatar I'm never likely to use if anyone wants it, not the most fluid avatar.

His scenes with Leo were so good too. LEO THE LION!

They were pretty funny actually. I don't dislike Windom as much as some people do, there are far worse things in the second season.

well shit.

i just did a comparison between the netflix version of the pilot and the only available Region 1 dvd version of the US pilot *(the gold edition one is the Euro pilot correct? ).

the stand alone dvd is such shit.

at the 4 minute mark the dvd is already 10 seconds faster than the netflix version. the sound is terrible, noticeable phasing noise. the picture on the dvd version is grainy and the color is washed out.

even with 1 bar (my dsl connection at home is such dog shit :/), the netflix version looks and sounds a lot better. sad.

*i just double checked and realized the gold box has both the US and the Euro pilot.

fuck. time to spring for the Gold Box then huh? what a waste of money the original dvd seasons were.

i do love the slipcase for S1 though. ill probably have to keep it just for that.
The gold box has both pilots, the original U.S. pilot and the international pilot. The quality is also very good.

In a show that's full of such good characters there are also a lot of terrible ones. Josie, Catherine, Evelyn, Windhom Earle, Super Nadine, Dick, Jean Renault I'm looking at all of you. I remember during my first viewing I just didn't have any time for the whole Packard sawmill plot. Josie just annoyed me every time she was on screen.
I guess you could say she was a knob...

That along with the
Super Nadine, thinking she's in high school
plotline came close to putting Twin Peaks beyond the point of recovery. Then there's everything to do with Dick, and the Pine Weasel. There's far too much nonsense in season 2. Fortunately there's moments of brilliance also.

Right. It's ok if the silliness is sprinkled in a modest measure like in Season 1. But the show needed to stick to its mysterious, otherworldly roots, thankfully they came back to that at the end of Season 2. To be truthful, I wasn't a fan of the whole Josie/Andrew Packard/Thomas Eckhardt/Hank Jennings plot line either.

Oh, and I completely agree that Windom Earle was too over the top. I just couldn't take him that seriously, for some reason.

One thing I disliked more than wyndom earle in season 2 was that Billy Zane character. It just seemed so pointless for such a cool actor, other than to tie in to Horne's newfound philanthropy I guess. That whole thing was awkward too.

But earle, he wasn't compelling at all in the same way as other insane aspects of the show, he was more like a bad villain from the 60s batman show. (I see Eli Cash agrees, haha)

I remember reading somewhere that Kyle Maclachan pretty much hated working with Sherilyn Fenn. Any truth to this?

He was against an Audrey and Cooper romance, apparently because he thought it was morally wrong since Audrey was supposed to be in high school. After the show finished Sherilyn Fenn said in an interview that she thought "Kyle blew it because Audrey and Dale were great together" or something along those lines. But I don't think she said it in a bitter way. I'm not sure if the rumour comes from that?

David Lynch has also said that some actors weren't 100% there during season 2, so it's fair to say that things weren't completely golden between all the actors, but that's to be expected I guess.

They both seem like pretty easy going actors, but who knows?

Yeah, it seemed pretty clear that he was shoehorned in as a love interest for Audrey, once Coop was no longer an option.

I love MacLachlan, but he never should've put the kibosh on a Cooper/Audrey romance -- or at least a show-long flirtation. Coop's two main relationships, with Audrey and with Truman, were probably my favorite parts of the show.

That brings me to one of the other things that's great about the show. For most TV shows, movies, and books, it's often the side characters who are most interesting and likable. On Twin Peaks, Cooper is (to me) the best-written character, the heart of the show, and the one constant in most of the good storylines.

A more conventional show would probably not even have Cooper. It would just be the Sheriff, a man rooted in reality, struggling to deal with the darkness around him. Not that it would be a bad show. But it sure wouldn't be the same show.

i think this is true there was a lot of romantic and professional drama going on on that set. believe coop was dating lara flynn boyle who didn't get along with fenn etc. i blame lara flynn boyle she blows

what happened to lara flynn boyle? so much plastic surgery, it's quite depressing.

It's also disappointing that she decided not to play Donna in the FWWM, not that Moira Kelly did a particularly bad job or anything. I just don't like character's being recast. Also it's unfortunate that Kyle MacLachlan had a smaller role due to a fear of being typecast, I know we have the benefit of hindsight but it's undoubtedly his greatest role. Oh well.

The Hidden, due to Maclachlan's casting as an FBI agent, feels like a weird alternate version of Twin Peaks. Highly recommended if you like 80s action movies.

For maximum benefit, avoid ALL spoilers.

Seriously.

Sweet, thanks, I think I saw the poster for this earlier in the thread. I'll check it out for the Maclachlan factor. And noted, all spoilers shall be avoided.

Pilot, plus three episodes, had to give up. Guess I dont get it. The acting felt like poor 80s cheese unless I am suppose to be laughing every darn time serious dialogue goes down. The cries for laura and the mom and that screaming was really bad. Seems like a show more concerned with being weird and messed up then a good mystery with a thought out plot time table and characterization. Once I realized I didnt give a crap about Laura or anyone on the show I didnt see a point. Scenery and music was bad ass though. Folks saying X-files wouldnt exist without this makes no sense to me.

It looks like it isn't for you, and I don't mean that in a bad way or anything. At least you gave it a chance I suppose, I know people who gave up after or even during the pilot. It either strikes a chord with you during the pilot or it doesn't.

And a lot of things wouldn't exist without Twin Peaks, it was one of the shows that pushed the boundaries of what tv could do. It changed everything really.

i mean it in a bad way. terrible taste. but it's one of those things there are definitely certain people that are more meant for the mass-market sugar-coated generic kind of product.

x-files? i would agree with you there the notion of mentioning that in the same breath as twin peaks is abominable

X Files and Twin Peaks are both classic. God damn...

Anyway, I personally had a lot of time for Windom Earle.

4 episodes in and it keeps getting better and better. i'm not sure how you couldn't like this show since it has something for everyone. and cooper has to be one of the greatest television characters of our generation

No, not just yet. I bought the DVD today so I'll be watching it tonight.

So, yeah, I didn't do this. :( I watched The Way Back instead. Forgive me, Twin Peaks-GAF. It'll happen this week, I promise that!

Julee Cruise's The World Spins is such a beautiful song. It's virtually all I've been listening the past several days.

I don't think the generation qualifier is even necessary ^_^
plus he's nowhere close to being in my generation :P

My favourite moment in a tv series, I don't think I've ever been as speechless. Maybe with the last scene of the series actually.

oh yeah.

but i would feel dumber if there was a blu-ray for FWWM.

ive only seen the one dvd version. is this something new?

edit: the hell. even the wikipedia page has zero info on a BD for this. i do see some talk about it on some French forums, but not seeing it anywhere. is it on BD in Europe only or something?

Yeah, it was only released in France. This Blu-ray.com review is dated November 3rd 2010, and if that's around the time the BD hit shelves, it's most definitely a recent release.

Edit: Yeah, the Amazon.fr page lists Nov. 3rd 2010 as the release date. Not sure how I managed to miss that. :p

Fortunately, despite being released only in France, the BD contains the original English audio track as well as English subtitles for the weird scenes. Additionally, Australia and Europe both fall within the Region B region code.

Unfortunately, the cover is utterly terrible, but 1080p and 5.1 DTS-HD MA sees that transgression overlooked.

hm i see.

also, just read this on Wikipedia.

Fire Walk with Me was greeted at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival with booing from the audience and met with negative reviews in the United States. The film fared poorly in the United States at the box office, partially because it was released almost a year after the television series was canceled (due to a sharp ratings decline in the second season), partially due to its incomprehensibility to the uninitiated and the fact that the film only appeals to a subset of the viewers of the Twin Peaks series. However, it was a commercial hit in Japan.

bitches!

i paid good money to see this in the theaters when it was released. go me!

Me too, and for a long time, I considered it the worst movie I had paid full price for!

Loved Twin Peaks, hated the movie.

I just passed the "hump" in the second season and am into the bad episodes. I forgot that the filler goes on for about 10 episodes.

I don't know how I'm going to slog through this.

Oh wait, I know how. David Duchovny's character. That's how. too funny!

I lost it as soon as I realised who it was. I'll never look at Mulder or Hank the same way again.

Hard to believe Duchovny was in his early 30s back then. The man ages like fine wine.

Back when I started dating my now-wife, I introduced her to the show. We started marathoning it over a long weekend.

She loved the show. Loved it... until this episode. It scared the crap out of her.
BOB
had always creeped her out a little, but this episode was too much. She couldn't sleep properly for days afterward. She had night terrors when she slept at all. I felt so bad, especially because I'd always liked this episode (and the show) so much.

We finished the series, but to this day, I don't mention it after it's dark. Still freaks her out a little that a show could have such an effect on her (she's generally not a fraidy-cat).

Heh, my wife is watching the show for the first time with me... Next up is that episode & I'm not looking forward to her reaction as I know how she deals with rape etc on-screen. Going to be a "fun" reaction...

I haven't jumped in here yet...

But the show is fantastic, after I finished my watch through, I liked it, but I didn't...love it.

It wasn't until I got the soundtrack and listened to it on a loop that I thought back to everything I had watched and appreciated it more.

I need to watch through again, but I think when you plow through episodes, you don't appreciate them as much as you would with a weekly pace.

Here's a juicy rumor: Kyle MacLachlan was dating Lara Flynn Boyle (Donna) at the time, and she opposed the Cooper/Audrey romance because she was jealous of Sherylin Fenn's popularity.
