AND OH.

The scene towards the end of the pilot where James and Donna are talking in the woods. OMG so good. It's like 3 minutes straight of just two shots (a shot/reverse shot dialouge scene). That could easily be boring, but it's so engaging. The shots are almost impressionistic in a way, it almost looks fake or soemthing, but it's really just the lighting and low depth of field used.

I like how Lynch made them shoot that scene late on a freezing cold night in the middle of the woods, when all the shots are practically close up dialogue shots. He could easily have done it on a soundstage (which a lot of people would've done) but it would have completely took everything that's good about that scene away.

just getting into this show for the first time. Is it as crazy and epic and amazing as everyone says it is? I keep hearing that the finales of both seasons are the best TV you can watch.

I'm also watching for the first time and loving it. I just watched the first episode of Season 2 and honestly got chills at the ending. It's been a while since a TV show had that kind of effect on me.

There certainly seems to be a lot of hype surrounding the show again. I'm not sure about crazy and epic, but amazing is definitely one of the words you could use to describe Twin Peaks.

First time watching here too. Done with season 1. Starting season 2. What I find brilliant is the fact that 20 years later the show doesn't feel dated at all.

YES! Best ending ever for my money. Still talk about it at least a couple times a year even when I haven't seen the show in years (rewatching for a fourth time atm).

I loved the Season 2 premiere. I didn't know when season 2 was supposed to get bad, so after that I was thinking "no way this drops in quality!!"

I'm currently in the doldrums of Season 2 right now. Basically Cooper has nothing to do and there are lame subplots like Super Nadine in high school and dumbface James going on a random motorcycle excursion. I still kind of like it because most of the characters are so endearing but things moved with so much more urgency when the case of Laura Palmer's murder was still unsolved.

This series is what really confirmed for me that Lynch is my favorite suspense/horror director. The weird thing is I wouldn't even consider his stuff horror though, but I feel that way still because of the vibes his films give off. The shit this guy puts in Twin Peaks as well as other films genuinely creep me out/scare me because of the intense, perfect atmosphere.

The scariest parts of Twin Peaks for me are definitely the ones that feature Bob because of how creepy his face is. Especially in the beginning of season 2 (i can't remember which episode, it was an early one), where he walks in the kitchen and then starts coming towards the camera. I love stuff like that. It creeps me out but also makes me smile because Lynch totally "gets it" for me, and my tastes or whatever. The atmosphere is so perfect in general.

I really wish I had a 360 so I could play Alan Wake since it has similar elements. I'm waiting until E3 for a last ditch hope for a PC port or something but if not I might have to buy one sometime this year to play it and the DLC (and inevitable sequel).

Unfortunately re-watching Twin Peaks recently made me realize that Lynch probably won't come back to film or television again, which is so depressing. I haven't watched Inland Empire but if it's as bad as people say it is then maybe it's for the best, but I can't help but hope for new stuff from him in the same vein as Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Lost Highway or Mulholland Drive as well.

That is the only part I genuinely don't like, the rest is entertaining or tolerable at worst imo.

Leo season 2 is pretty ridiculous/out there for the most part.

Pretty sure Lynch directed eps 1 and 2 of Season 2, so the drop doesn't begin until a few eps in.

I like the Leo stuff. Not earth-shatteringly brilliant or anything but I was always entertained by that whole plotline. It's been a while; I'll see how all of S2 sits with me now.

Season 2 is an atrocity compared to season 1. Also, they never should have revealed who the killer was as Lynch originally intended.

Season 1 is so good.

The only other part I truly found awful was Super Nadine goes to school. So dumb.

I was watching the episode in which the last bit of Laura's murder is wrapped up and she was doing cheerleader try-outs later in the episode. I really didn't like it.

He also directed "Lonely Souls" which is fantastic. I think the drop begins just after everything with the killer is concluded.

Wait so, Season 2 is an atrocity after the killer's identity is revealed, yet its ending is apparently one of the best in all of TV?

Yeah the last episode totally redeems season 2, lynch came back to finish it up right.

NOOOOO, the experience is over for me, I finally finished the series. I am seriously left in shock at the ending of season 2 and words are escaping at the moment after watching the final episode.

This easily has become one of my favorite TV series of all time. I loved every single episode of it, including the entirety of season 2. It sad that in 20 years time something has not come along like it. I am craving more. David Lynch is a freaking genius and was so ahead of his time.

Series Ending Spoiler:
Laura mentioned 25 years. Please let this be a cryptic message that something is going to happen in 5 years!

I still cannot believe the cliff hanger at the end of season 2.

Was Van Horn the girl's father?!

Did Audrey live after the explosion?!

NOOOOO I WILL NEVER FIND THE ANSWER TO THESE QUESTIONS OUT

Man, I can't get enough of how fucking attractive Sheryl Lee is. When she played the doctor in 'Dual Spires', I nearly creamed. She has aged wonderfully.

On episode 4 of my rewatch.

If you guys haven't seen the Twin Peaks episode of 'Psych', I suggest you do it ASAP. It's a wonderful tribute/homage loaded with references.

I watched that the other day. Many laughs were had. Was weird seeing Bobby being a mature adult though.

I've been in the rough part of season two for a few episodes now, and you guys weren't kidding. I'm amazed at how shitty these episodes have been. Horrible sub-plots with equally bad new characters just make it a chore to sit through. The plot with James and that
seemingly incestuous
woman with the car is particularly bad. I just finished the episode directed by Diane Keaton (lol), and I'm very glad to be done with it.

Only six more to go!

Also, I couldn't help but laugh at that one scene of James sitting by himself while that song he made with Donna and Maddie played in the background.

loved alan wake still need to play the 2 dlcs but just saw the pilot on netflix

DAMN gonna have to finish the series asap!

It's weird. When I watch Twin Peaks, I want to play Alan Wake, when I play Alan Wake I want to watch Twin Peaks now. I always knew Alan Wake drew heavily from Twin Peaks but didn't realise just how much till I started watching this a few nights ago.

Had the series there for ages but never had the motivation to watch it.

Glad this thread popped up as I've been doing nothing but watching it since. Up to the part shortly after killers identity is realised. I take it' I'm in the lul part of the series.

Yeah. As soon as I finish season 2, I'm definitely going to be playing through Alan Wake again.

Alan Wake is nothing compared to Deadly Premonition's use of Twin Peaks. As in, everything in Deadly Premonition is from Twin Peaks. I'm a bit conflicted over whether Swery is a bit of a thief or not. It's a tribute, but it also has lots of identical plot points.

I understand the James sub-plot a bit more on the second time through. It's him trying to escape Twin Peaks and his past, only to fall for yet another blonde woman (who resembles Laura, btw) that will get him in trouble. It's just showing how running away isn't the answer, etc. Remember that half this show is about grief and how people deal with it when things go wrong...in that context, his story doesn't seem like a completely random offshoot.

but yeah, it's way too long and drawn out. He's a main character, but they could have covered the entire subplot by having him disappear for an episode then come back and explain what happened to someone.

It starts off very similar but takes a different turn part way through.

Does Alan Wake as blatantly plagiarize Twin Peaks as Deadly Premonition does? I ultimately enjoyed DP but it's a borderline shameless rip-off.

No not really. You can see some influences like the diner, the "lady", and the surroundings, but DP does a better job because of the whole story and character interaction.

I just wrapped up my first time through the series, and damn if that ending doesn't make me want more of it. It's unfortunate that so much of season 2 is underwhelming, because I felt like a lot of those characters lost some of their charm for me. Audrey was easily one of my favorites but I kind of lost what her motivation was at a certain point, and after the Laura thing was wrapped up I flat out couldn't stand Donna or James. Completely aggravating characters.

So, do I watch Fire Walk With Me or not? Is it substantial enough to warrant that or will it leave me cold?

My thoughts on the ending of FWWM:
I took it that Cooper somehow saves Laura from the Black Lodge which in some ways brings the story to a close since it began with Laura dying and Cooper coming to town to investigate it.

wow, I forgot about that ending. Wish I hadn't read that spoiler lol

but now that I have:
So the ending to Twin Peaks is a kind of retcon for the whole series? Is that how the timeline works? Or does he save her in the black lodge after all that?

Alan Wake is more an interactive homage more than an interactive rip-off. The game is essentially the bastard child of King and Lynch, with the latter holding the dormant gene.

I did had an entire post ready, but my laptop is shit.

Just watched S2E7, Lonely Souls. Holllyyyyyyyy shit.

I was so wrapped up in other stuff that I completely didn't see the killer being Leiland. I mean, the signs were all there. I feel stupid for not making that connection. I gotta say, Bob is one scary motherfucker. So creepy.

I had to do a double take when the FBI agent with hearing problems showed up. I was like, that looks like David Lynch himself. Too funny. Perfect character for him too.

Just started watching for the first time and loving it. Every character is fascinating, the scenery is beautiful, and I also love the music.

I played Deadly Premonition before I'd seen the show, and it's kinda shocking to realize just how much stuff is ripped directly from Twin Peaks. Can't believe SWERY said he didn't realize it.

I love the tune to song that James, Donna and Maddy sing. The tune keeps repeating after that particular scene. Its amazing.

Edit: Also can someone tell me which hiphop song samples that tune? This is gonna drive me nuts. Don't make me go through my entire music collection.

As my previous posts indicate, I watched the series for the first time as well and just watched the movie today and definitely think it is worth the watch. It explained some of the things that the TV show did not resolve and the last 30 minutes or so was awesome as hell, which lead up to the start of the TV show. It is a shame no more movies were made that would wrap up the TV series. Since the actors are older now I was thinking it would be awesome if the Twin Peaks world could be continued in book form where the TV series left off.
