For many reasons, a player of A-Rod's caliber would have to support his high school whether he liked it or not. It comes with the job. You know this.UltimaKilo said:A-Rod has a history of doing that, he did that with my high-school and now calls himself an alum. Would it piss me off? Probably not. If Hanley Ramirez wanted to leave the Marlins at the END of his contract while consistently earning an all-star nod on a team that isn't surrounding him with the players he needs to go deep into the playoffs, and then bolts for the Yankees for a major contract... I'd have no problem with it.
If it was just business, then why couldn't Lebron call Cleveland's FO at anytime between the loss the to Celtics and his primetime 'fuck you' to the city? FAs wanted to sign there, trades could be made, big name coaches wanted to come in - none of it could happen because Lebron couldn't give anyone a straight, professional answer. It wasn't "just business" it was childish and unprofessional, and because of that, Cleveland isn't going to be able to move on nearly as fast it would've if Lebron had just been straight up with them.It seems that when the owners say "it's just business" to the players, it's usually OK. However when the tables turn, things get Heated.
Uh, flatter yourself much? One of the biggest, valid, critiques of Lebron as a player is his lack of a real skillset. He's got all the natural abilities and physical gifts that a basketball player could ever want - but he hasn't developed his game since his 3rd year in the league and makes a living out of running guys over. This is a valid critique of Lebron. Don't get butthurt whenever someone brings it up.There are a lot of athletes who are actually worth criticizing, but because their talents don't compare, nobody cares.
Heat fans are also used to being the villains after Riles bolted the Knicks for Miami, and I don't mind it.
siddx said:If I want fundamentals I'll watch the WNBA. If I want to see someone perform physical acts that less than 1% of the population can do, i'll watch Lebron James crab dribble his ass to a spectacular dunk.
I'm only half joking. I'm a thunder fan for fundamentals...well last year I was, don't know wtf is up this year. But sometimes I want to see players entertain me in the same way I'll go see a mindless action movie for the oohs and aahs. And there is nothing wrong with that. We pay these man children disgusting amounts of money to entertain us. If that means taking 3 steps and running someone over to make an amazing dunk, I am ok with that once in a while. As long as it doesn't become the standard across the board.

And yes I'll admit right now that Lebron didn't seem to have his A game half way through that series. But am I suppose to take 2 or so games and act like the Cavs didn't win a title because of that?

That's why, as much shit as I give Pheeknicks here, at least I can say he was here reppin' the Heat, (even in that season) irregardless.
Cerrius as well.

The Chosen One said:I'm sure going into the series, he wanted to win. But when the Celtics proved to be formidable opponents and things seemed to be in doubt, Lebron clearly checked out and basically didn't give a shit anymore.
Maybe it was his issues with Mike Brown. Or maybe it was Delonte banging his mom. Or maybe it was his elbow. Pick your excuse. Regardless it was clear to any competent observer that by midway through the series, winning was a secondary issue for Lebron. For someone who is the MVP, this is utterly shameful and pathetic. He did just enough to get his stat-line and that was it. He deserves the hate. People finally see him for the fake superstar he is. All image, no heart.

No one goes on and on about how Kobe didn't give up. Even Laker fans will admit that. He did it twice (although it was after busting his ass at least at one point during the series - never for 3 games in one series, but thats a different can of worms).mckmas8808 said:How can he be a fake superstar? See this is the hate that's seem so pathetic to me. Kobe literally gave up on his teams too years ago. Do you think Kobe is a fake superstar?

Miami wasn't a relevant playoff team for a while. When Riley left New York, it wasn't that big of a deal.

they're not joking, which is ridiculous- I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuge dolphin fan, and I rarely post in the NFL thread. When we were making our deep pushes into the playoffs in the 90s, and the Heat-Knicks games got tense, Miami was always the villain. I remember those games fondly, they were part of my childhood and I loved being hated.Miami wasn't a relevant playoff team for a while. When Riley left New York, it wasn't that big of a deal.

We cap on people that appear out of nowhere to "rep their squad" and disappear when they lose or aren't doing too well.
If you are content to lurk and be a fan, cool, do that win or lose.
But people don't and that's why they get ripped.
