Outside of the Hornets history moving back to NC Seattle holds their history so it is already done.. this is a first in sports I think..

I may be wrong but the Ravens have all of the former Browns history and the Browns are a new franchise...
No. Ravens history starts at 1996.

The settlement Seattle made was sort of similar. Seattle keeps the banners, trophy, etc, but if the Sonics return and use that history, recent history is shared.

There's a rumor being floated around for a Wince/Gortat for Monta/Biedrins swap. Monta's a stud but shit, Meer and Ellis would be tiny ass backcourt and a Monta/Pietrus/Bass lineup would consequently turn the arena into a quasar.

This has about as much chance of happening as Gordon Hayward and either Jeremy Evans OR Ante Tomic (BUT NOT BOTH) for Carmelo Anthony who immediately agrees to an extension with the Jazz.

If all this Carmelo stuff is true then he is a much bigger bitch than LeBron. Yeah he told the franchise what his intentions and wants were but isn't this the very definition of quitting on your team?
Why wait until the playoffs?

I normally would pass it off as nothing, but it's being leaked by Warriors bloggers.

It works salary wise but the Warriors only have a few ball handlers and with Curry injured it would make no sense to trade Ellis.

awesome! good for the Browns..

How about the Oliers?
Houston Oilers history stayed with the team.

I think it's kind of strange. The Titans even kept the same retired numbers and such, like those old Oilers players have any connection to Nashville, TN.

How would he be quitting on the team? He literally just played today and put up a quality stat line. He led his team against a tough Knicks team, matched up against their star and kept them close to the very end of the game.

He's played every game but two. He's their leading scorer as always. He hasn't held the front office hostage and not informed them of what his plans are. He didn't jake it in important games. He didn't have a press conference with corporate and non-profit sponsorship on ESPN to announce his intentions to take his talents somewhere. What the fuck are you talking about? :lol

Actually Melo has been very forthright with what he wants.. unlike LBJ.. While he is still kind of pulling a bitch move he has not toyed with the fanbase's nor the team's hopes..

Uh, he wants to leave the Denver Nuggets for the New York Knicks. Ignore all that outside garbage. He wants to leave his team for another. That's quitting. Take off the Knicks goggles and realize this.

"But LBJ toyed with Cleveland, blah blah, at least Melo is being honest"

Yes. This is true. But he's still quitting.

Yeah, there's gotta be a third team involved anyway as the Magic aren't gonna pay Biedrins 9 million to only play 10 mpg behind Dwight.

He is allowing the Nuggets to get something in return for him, which is something in sports. Stop trying to spin this into a Melo hatefest because LBJ is a toolbox

What an asshole for a player to want to play somewhere else after spending time in one place. Isn't that what free agency is for?

No, this is nothing like LBJ's farcical decision. LBJ is a douchebasket for all time - not for leaving Cleveland, but for how he did it and the spectacle he made of the process/of himself while doing so. Carmelo Anthony is doing it the best way possible, honestly.

This has nothing to do with him going to NY, or anywhere at all.

I'm not turning this into a Melo hatefest I love Melo, but you are being way too forgiving on Melo...he is quitting on his team in the middle of the year. I don't know how you keep looking past this. if LBJ did this you'd call him a bitch for ditching his hometown and all that shit

anyways

"Coach has said if y'all get rebounds, y'all can do whatever you want," Wade said. "As players we enjoy that. When the ball goes through the basket then we have to do what he wants us to do."

...Didn't Mike Brown say something very similar?

THe result may be the same, but the method isn't.

If you resign at a job to take another job, Leaving a two weeks notice and verbalizing for months that you were going to leave, and then leave gracefully is not the same as saying you won't quit, well i might see what my options are and then bolt without a two weeks notice.

Yes the result is both left their jobs to take others but one did it classless and another followed procedure.

um.. Lebron played out his contract? Melo is straight up quitting on his team, asking for a trade in the middle of the season? Its way worse...

In other news, this track just came up on my iTunes, and its awesome (and somewhat NBA related) so ill leave this here:

He could have cut a check before or after. He could have told the Cavs what the decision was. He could have decided not to have an hour stroke session.

Tell me how any of that entire process was handled with class?

Melo is putting up quality stats as well. He pushed and wanted to beat the Knicks today. He isn't mailing it in.

CP3 asked for a trade, Kobe asked for a trade...just because LeBron didn't ask to be traded doesn't make how he handled the situation any different?

Apparently the full one includes Duhon & Brandan Wright. Which makes a little more sense.

However it comes from the guy running this blog

http://chriscohansucks.blogspot.com/

Which includes this disclaimer on the post:

Reminder, for the easily excited:
My "major" breaks have been Kosta Perovic getting bought out and sent back to Europe; Acie Law getting signed (and the proper hypothesis shared by everyone else, based upon years of Robert Rowell history lessons, that Jeff Adrien and his unguaranteed contract was the cut); and Kirk Lacob being the "new" ownership's sole executive hire and becoming the youngest Director of Basketball Operations in league history. I didn't believe Corey Maggette was being traded until Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell were really and truly crapping on the Oracle Arena floor.

Not much of note.

He didn't ask for a trade. He never did. And he's not pulling a Kenyon Martin, taking extra months off because of injuries either. He said that he's not signing an extension and that he wouldn't sign an extension with certain teams should he be traded. He's being straight up with his team - not lying to them for 3+ years, causing them FAs and coaches.

He's not Boozer either. His team isn't tearing itself apart just thinking of ways to put up with him until the end of his contract. Utah wasn't even on the same page when Boozer was playing with them.

Carmelo isn't asking for a trade. He's telling them that he's not taking their contract extension and is going to explore free agency. He's letting them know that the alternative for the team that had him and helped him for the last 7 years is to be guaranteed to lose him for NOTHING if they trade him to another team that isn't the Knicks, since he won't accept an extension with any other team. Instead of holding the team up and preventing them from being able to rebuild properly until they know his status or thoughts, he informed them in advance. He told the FO that he's going to the Knicks, and if they want something for their trouble, they'll trade him there today.

I can't for the life of me see how there is even a comparison to spectacular narcissism, two years of collusion, and a primetime ESPN special after a pointless "free agency tour".

I knew it was a rap for Lebron when he decided to run to his mom's hotel instead of taking the team bus after getting beat by Orlando.

I just had a horrible image of LeBron banging his own mom. What does this say about my thought process?

Carmelo is handling it as well as he can. Anytime a big star leaves a team it's going to cause some butthurt. LBJ's biggest issue was simply making his move such a big deal. No matter what he did, people would have ended up upset and angry at him. But he would have saved himself the negativity on a larger scale if he hadn't pulled that stupid shit.

Carmelo is realizing the same thing Lebron did, he will never win a ring where he is. It's time to move on. I guess thats understandable.

It's too bad though, it was neat seeing the Nuggets be a great team for a while.

All right, the Magic are vulnerable and weak. Now is your chance to strike, Clipshow!

Magic Lineup:

PG - Jameer Nelson
SG - Vince Carter
SF - Rashard Lewis
PF - Brandon Bass
C - Dwight Howard

This is the starting lineup Orlando should run for the rest of the season.

Naw, Lebron fed the drama for a lot longer than just this summer.

It does kinda suck with the Nuggets though. They certainly had more than enough talent to win it all, but mentally they're at the bottom of the barrel. Its a shame they couldn't get it together.

Yup. It's a great lineup, especially against an athletic team like the Clippers. Dwight is keeping them out of the paint and forcing Griffin to try to use his very unpolished post game and the rest of the team to try shooting 333333s. Which they suck at. Clippers have no chance tonight. In the meantime, Orlando has options from every part of the floor with that lineup.

Lewis at this point shouldn't be starting...

For $120 million he's starting with a broken leg.

Jesus Griffin's jumper is bad. He should just pass it if he can't get close enough to try a bank shot.

bad signing.. but shouldn't be starting..

He would make a decent 6th man.. Then they could focus on his O a bit more for short times in a game

Blackace said:

I've been wondering about this recently...

Worse signing? - Lewis ($120million) or Johnson ($126million)

I say Johnson because at least the Magic can retain Dwight. The Hawks can't add anything now.
