P.K. Subban's name can change from time to time. Some call him "Penalty Killing Subban". I just call him "Penguin Killer Subban"...

What happened?! I was following the game on my phone but since I live in Chicago I don't get Wings games unless they're on Versus, and VS was carrying Crosby/Habs tonight.

I'm reading the summary on yahoo and it looks like San Jose just completely broke down.

Man, I'd be ecstatic to see Detroit win Game 5 in San Jose. I think I hate San Jose fans more than I hate their players... but only just barely :lol

Franzen with a cowboy hat trick. awesome

Gary Bettman has been around for a lot of the NHL's growth, but I cannot believe there isnt a system in place that stops a commissioner from being in power for as long as he has been. Shouldn't there be an election process with the team owners or something?

They said his father is a principle in a school if that helps narrow it down

Thanks. I just checked my former high school and three other public high schools in my area but none of the principals are named Subban.

He bent the union over during the lock-out and got everything the league wanted and more. I doubt the owners dislike him as much as the fans do.

That being said, Bettman is worthless. He was on the radio here in Chicago and one of the guys asked him about a national TV contract. He goes, "Well we have one, it's with Versus." And the guy goes, "I mean one that can actually be seen in everyones homes." Bettman then accusingly goes, "Well have you called your cable provider?" The guy goes, "Have YOU called?" Since it's obviously Bettman's job... Bettman just got quiet and ended the interview like 2 minutes later :lol

Karl Subban from Brookview Middle School .

Thats pretty cool, I grew up 5mins away from Brookview (Jane and Wilson), I know the school very well, had some friends that lived on driftwood and went to brookview.

Ouch that one stung a little to say the least. Detroit definitely played it as their last game. Well done Detroit on out playing us tonight. Game 5 should be fun.

Luongo doing a lot of talking:

It's one thing if fans say things like that, it's another when a player says it. Not a smart thing to say for Luongo.

Most teams will have players saying such things in their locker room, I figure. It's unique to say it to the media. I wonder if he's hoping that Chicago will take his comments personally and try to play fancier hockey (which might not earn them the same success). Or maybe it was completely uncalculating and it could just motivate Chicago further.

Yeah, I'm guessing it's the latter. I don't know why he'd try to instigate a team that just absolutely shelled him.

Vancouver needs to win the series otherwise they're dangerously close to getting "Little Brother" status to the Blackhawks

I read the article and Luongo didn't say anything bad, he just disagrees with some of the lack of calls by refs that he see's as goalie interference and stated the fact that Byfugly is a tough force to deal with.

Took some shots tonight right after the game

Just got back from post-game dinner.

Gotta say that I was obviously disappointed with the outcome of the game and thought the Pens deserved a far better fate after dominating the majority of the game, but Halak came up with a couple of key third period stops on Crosby and Malkin that secured the Habs' victory.

Other random thoughts from the live experience:
-Live hockey goes back so much quicker than watching it on TV.
-The "pure" experience of seeing hockey is so much better than having announcers overanalyze everything for you.
-Montreal fans are some of the drunkest and most obnoxious people that I have had to deal with at a sporting event. Young, drunk, loud, and classless. (every third fan yelling "Crosby sucks!" "Get the fuck out of here, loser!" "Pens SUCK buddy!" and "Crosby is a little whore!" just two feet away from me or getting near my face when walking around pre-game and during intermission, and then "AHAHAHAHAHA!" while pointing and laughing after the Habs' victory) Fucking morons. I'm all for being happyf or your team, but they're not the most welcoming or respectful bunch. Not to mention celebrating like they just won the Stanley Cup after a game 4 victory. I was treated better in Buffalo and Toronto.
-Bell Centre is a really impressive facility. Very sleek and nice.
-Drunk Habs fans. Fuck 'em.

This series is starting to make me feel a little uncomfortable, especially considering that the Pens have owned most of it but are still tied up with the Canadiens and their brand of "hockey." I hope that Saturday provides a better fate for Crosby and co.

That's hockey for you, especially playoff hockey. I remember when pens played philly in the playoffs and we basically drove a row of flyers fans in our section out of the game with the taunting and shit. When they finally stood up and left, everyone in the section started cheering. It was good stuff, but you find that shit at any sporting event when you are wearing the other teams colors. I had snowballs thrown at me in Buffalo walking to my car wearing a Crosby jersey :lol

Well what did you expect? :lol

Not a bunch of loaded and glassy eyed people passing themselves off as hockey fans. It was pretty awesome hearing everyone turn on their team as soon as it was 2-1 Pens, and then magically start cheering them on like the best thing since sliced bread when they took the lead, though.

Anyway, I'm totally just bitter after the loss and I apologize if it all sounds like sour grapes, but you sort of had to be there. Also, for a fanbase with so much history, you would think they would know that not every time a Habs player is hit is a penalty. There were two blatant missed calls in the game that I was able to see, but the amount of booing every time a Habs player went down for ANYTHING was pretty embarrassing and stupid. Again, I'm totally bitter and will remain so for the next 24 hours. My general impression of Habs fans is not favourable at all right now. Loud, obnoxious, drunk, and childish.

I really don't get this argument. What's so hard to understand about a bunch of passionate (and some drunk) fans that are so into the game and their team that they have some exaggerated reactions to stuff happening on the ice, especially when the refs favor the visiting team? It's like saying, "Crosby has had so much success, you would think he wouldn't bitch and cry so much when things don't go his way".

But I can see how you're not used to stuff like that, the Pittsburgh crowd is by far the most dull of the playoff teams.

The whites. Again, I'm sure they're not representative of all Habs fans. I also sort of expectd it considering that I was wearing a Pens jersey. Another Habs friend of mine sent me a message about it after the game:

"Yeah, Habs fans have a reputation as one of the worst fans in the league, only second to Leafs fans. But you had to expect it walking in with a Pens jersey ;)"

Pretty much sums it up for me. Heh.

On to game 5. I may post some pics once I get back to Ontario Saturday morning.

Anytime I have gone to a game, people wearing the other teams colors ALWAYS get hassled. Sure it is childish, and add in people drinking at it gets even worse.

Maybe you just need to go out more ;P

Every game I see whether it be live or on TV, the home crowd always boos the refs on hits, always insults the teams star players, etc

Habs fans are just that, fans, albeit crazed at times, but to label them as anything other than that is just silly. Plus, unless you are born and raised in Montreal, you have no idea how rabid Habs fans can be. Or how fickle. They cheer and boo depending on every play but in the end, they love their team no matter what.

As for the "as if they won the cup" people in the streets. Nobody expected Montreal to be where they are...every game is a HUGE victory and worth every bit of celebration. Everyoen counted them out from the start in both series so far.

They are hanging in there and I for one think it makes for a great cinderella type story.

every fan base does this. it's the combination of people who don't know hockey and the drunks.

if you go to any opposing stadium you're not going to receive any respect. Imagine if I wore a Richards jersey to a game @ pit.

Hell I wore an Indians shirt to an Indians/Orioles game @ baltimore and some dude threw a beer on me. We're talking the lowest ratings ever and about 10,000 fans there.

I don't disagree with you there. Mellon Arena is one of the quietest playoff buildings when the Pens aren't scoring. It pisses me off watching it on TV 'cause I'd be going nuts for 'em in person.

As for the first part of your reply, yelling every time a Habs player is knocked over makes fans look ignorant of the game. But hey, one man's ignorance is another man's passion I suppose. (Yes, very much bitter)

Meh. It was my first dose of live playoff hockey, so maybe I'm just not used to the hostility. I guess it's just a standards thing because I sure as hell wouldn't be telling people to fuck off if they walked into the building of a team that I support, while they were wearing enemy colours. Would the guy or girl get some looks? Sure. But he/she is just there to enjoy a game and cheer on their team.

Actually, it has nothing to do with ignorance. Blind fanaticism, maybe, but not ignorance. Montreal fans are some of the most knowledgeable in the league.

Conversely, I'm sure that even on the actual missed calls where the crowd is right to boo the refs, you're probably thinking to yourself that the Habs player fell by himself or dived. Ignorance, right?

Not at all. As I mentioned, there were two calls that I thought were missed by the refs and that should have been called against the Pens. But this "Pens get favourable treatment" talk, while igoring that Matt Cooke was high sticked and bleeding in game 3, and Letang was also high sticked and nothing was called in the same game, grows pretty tiresome. Teams who play the Pens aren't innocent conspiracy victims.

unlike many American cities that have other big sports teams that have NFL, MLB, NBA teams who take more attention.

Montreal is all about the Canadiens when it comes to the home team and they get the brunt of the attention from fans and media.

it is normal that the Montreal crowd is a loud one.

Go to a Ducks game and try to sing and do anything, you will be told by security to pipe down: it's a family establishment
