About time! That's Leafs for ya. Run and gun and hope they're on the winning side of it.

Hope Hedman and Cernak injuries are long. Did wonders yesterday for Leafs forwards zipping around.

Gametime call for Hedman according to Sportsnet. I'm hoping he comes back. A bit of rough stuff is good to change play, not erase him.

Wild turnaround from the first game.
They realized they had to play to win. I'm getting the feeling it's gonna be another rowdy donnybook in the mind/body-space tonight in Tampa with the refs half in astral plane.

Stone and Eichel killed it last night. Stone has been out almost all season. Great to have our Captain back. Stephenson, Marchessault, Smith, Roy, Theodore, Martinez, Kessel and Pietrangelo. These guys are fantastic. We have just had a really hard time with goalies this season. Quick was a nice addition. Getting the cup this year! Plus if you haven’t done so yet, catch a game at T-Mobile. It’s quite the experience.
There was some determination show by that goalie who stayed in without at least an ultrasound to check for fractures after that Eichel slapshot to the mask. I guess it could wait until the end of the period after a quick check for dents.

That gets into the head of a goalie, figuratively. After looking a bit shook the state of mind of the Tampa goalie from his loss the previous game might be something for Toronto to work in.

Fuck that shit in la. That should have been called back. That is ila terrible call.
These playoffs have been atrocious for ref calls. I've only focused on watch the Leafs, Oilers, Bruins series. The other ones I flip back and forth or have it on in the background. But some of the calls have been terrible. I saw a replay of some of Canes/Isles game 2 OT clips. Isles got zero PP all game. An Isles dman got a stick to the face in front of a ref and no call in OT. The player even went down. No call. Canes scored shortly after.

On TSN or Sportsnet the other day, Kerry Fraser called in to chat with the hosts. He even said that playoff hockey refereeing is different.

All players and fans know that. Let the small stuff called in the regular season slide if they want, but at least for blatant serious infractions call those.

It's a weird sport because football, basketball and baseball dont seem to change refererring temperament in playoffs. At least I dont think so. You dont get umps calling balls and strikes different, or basketball refs easing up on fouls, or NFL refs turning a blind eye to penalties. But in the NHL, there's inconsistent reffing where you dont really know if that ref will ease up or not.

Yep, especially in overtime.

Yeahhhhh! Samsonov stole that one. TB dominated.
He was busy tonight and definitely saved it for the Leafs. Gotta give credit to the D and all the blocked shots too. A few of those were obvious stingers. Hedman makes quite a difference. Lifts the entire team's game. TB really poured it on. In that last minute of OT could feel the tide shift to Toronto as Tampa seemed to be winding down and the Leafs scored.

While high paced, the game was more sedate than expected. Sidenote: The similar colour of uniforms is annoying. Tampa should be a little more distinct and themselves with some yellow or something.

Game 4 Monday could lead to a raucous Thursday back in T.O. for Game 5. One game, one goal at a time...

Glad they downgraded that hit just now to a minor. These players have a bad habit of turning their backs to incoming hits.

It’s been happening for a while and is terrible for officials and the players. They need to find a way to take it out of the game. A penalty for taking one in the back intentionally or something

One wishy washy penalty call is when a player gets called for a slash to hitting another player's stick whose stick goes flying. How does the ref know that player didn't purposely ease up and allow his stick to be chopped out of his hands? I never fully understood what gets called a penalty or not because sometimes it's called and sometimes it's not.

Another call that doesnt get called is icing. A player dumps the puck in at the last minute from centre. But a lot of the time, he never even reached the centre line. He dumped it probably a good foot or two before it. But the ref allows that as a dump in. But sometimes a close call dump in is called icing.

Kings fans are in the game. The spin that unwrapped for the 2nd goal was sweet. There's currently no votes for the Kings in the poll.

Looking like it’s going to be a kings first round upset…
Got LA in a playoff bracket pool. But I fucked up and took TB. If things hold, I'll get 7 teams advancing, which is solid when I took a skim of other poolies charts. I don't look at all of them but the ones I saw didn't have one with 8 logically advancing. A lot of people got burned taking Edm.

Well, oil came back. It’s a best of 3 now. I’d wager that favours the oilers then.
That was a well earned win. Switching goalies between periods really changed things. Ex-King I heard during broadcast? McDavid and team trying to draw penalties. Finally working. Kane and Draisaitl were everywhere. The challenge focuses and fires them up.

For next game, I'd stick with Skinner. Campbell was hot when he took over, but no way I'd trust him in a whole game yet. If Skinner bombs again, then Id start Campbell game 6.

Canes have been feasting on Isles penalties. That series has lived and died on PP goals. You can always sucker Matt Martin into taking bad penalties during scrums as he cant control himself roughing or throwing ill advised punches.

Making it look easy taking the series, and intimidating in the process.

Fun Fact - I used to play hockey with Kerry Fraser's son in a local Men's league just outside of Philly. He was a great guy, reffed in the AHL as his day job. Age / Injuries have caught up and I'm now retired. Really miss it.

i thought the defense vs the OT Oilers goal last night was bizarre, like the defenseman thought it was a 2v1 ??

That comeback was ridiculous. Tampa has been the Gold standard for a while, a potential series win would be a pretty impressive way of breaking Toronto's postseason streak. As a reward, here's Boston! Insane division, probably has 3 of the best 4 teams.

Edmonton dismantled la last night pretty bad.

Anyone else hear about that little 10 year old cancer patient being treated like crap in LA by a few fans? That is completely unacceptable. You know something is bad when Kane says something about it.

I didnt know until you mentioned it and I googled it.

That's sports for ya. Brings out the worst in people. Often from low brow trashy people too.

I think TB outplayed Leafs. Should be 3-1 TB. But I'll take it. Samsonov has played great in the playoffs for the first time ever and Vasy is letting in 30 ft floaters.
Oh yeah they did but they seem exhausted, that covid cup run was like 2 playoffs runs in a single year, unbelievable feat.

Vasy is having a problem with his blocker side, dont know if he's hurt but all goals are going in on that side right now.

Leafs outplayed them last year and should have won in 6, if not for 2 phantom calls by the refs. I dont give a damn anymore. I just want to win. Leafs in 5 was my original prediction and everybody called me nuts .. but here we are, up 3-1 with a chance for it to happen.

Great win by the Golden Knights. Vegas is the first team to make it to round 2. Glad they get a rest.

Brossoit is pretty good. But still, Jets losing to a 3rd or 4th goalie is shameful.

Never the less, Antti Raanta is kind if similar (but he's played much more games). Good stats in limited action. Give him a starters chance and he does pretty well.

I’ll take Brossoit over Lehner. Hill got injured and Quick hasn’t played any playoff games yet. The Knights has a tough year with goalies. That being said, they lead the Pacific in points up to the playoffs.

Also watched the Rangers/Devils. Tough loss for the Rangers.

I voted for the Kraken because it would just be crazy.
I also want the Maple Leaves to lose because my sad Canadiens are reconstructing for the next 10 years.
