That is a perfectly reasonable stance.zeroshiki said:No Lavie, no sale.

Different? It's not really that different, I mean the setting is very similar, the world is similar, the ships are similar, etc. The plot is different of course, but also involves nations going to war with airships, so it's also got some obvious similarities.cajunator said:Regarding new Last Exile, I don't like the new OP and I'm not really liking what I'm seeing. It has a completely different feel from the first series right from the start.
The new who?The hottest character in the original series was Tatiana Wisla.
Who is the new one?
Indeed it is. As for this one, it's good so far, but I would recommend watching the first one first, certainly.cajunator said:Watch the first one. It's a great series.
The main characters, most but not all of the secondary characters, the nations, and the place (maybe) are new, but the show is a sequel, so knowing the original series will definitely help. Still, I do think that they made it approachable enough for someone who didn't see the original series to be able to get into it... it's just that the original series was quite good so you should want to watch it anyway.Articalys said:How much does the new Last Exile rely on knowledge of the original one? Don't worry, Fam is awesome. She'll make you forget that Lavie isn't there, no problem. She's kind of like some elements of Claus and Lavie combined, but more awesome and entertaining, and with a good attitude too.cajunator said:Wait, Lavie isn't in it?
Fuck that shit.

That was such a weird scene, I don't understand why they were doing that... that show in general is pretty good stuff, though. It's so weird, and yet funny.Instro said:

Now, I might be misremembering but I'm pretty damn sureA Black Falcon said:Returning characters?Don't forget Alvis, who appears in the OP at least, so I expect to see her in the series as well at some point. She's a little older, but not that much.
He did.trejo said:Now, I might be misremembering but I'm pretty damn sure. I'm sure they'll explain it in due time as I'm also sure the explanation is highly likely to be really dumb and shoehorned in.Dio went insane and plummeted off an airship to his death in the first one so seeing him show up here with these people of all places kinda makes no sense to me whatsoever
As for returning characters, Lavie is really the only one that matters.

No way, I liked most of the main cast in Last Exile. Sure, Lavie was mostly great, but so were Claus (sometimes, not as often as Lavie), Tatiana, Alister, Alvis, Alex Row, his CO/secret princess (I forget her name at the moment), etc.As for returning characters, Lavie is really the only one that matters.
Some people do dislike it because of the ending, but not everyone.cajunator said:I honestly thought Gaf wouild hate the first one because of the dumb ending.
I'm glad to see you guys are not lame.
That's why I love you.
Sophia wasn't it?A Black Falcon said:I thought so too, but apparently his voice is heard near the end of the original show, so they did put in a hint that he somehow managed to survive... how, though, we have no idea.

DO like.

Liking this so far.

It's not just the same band, the song was actually on the old soundtrack.cajunator said:...is that the same band that did CLoud Age Symphony in the background?
The dub is actualy pretty good IMO. But then again, I liked Utena dubbed.Articalys said:Great, so if I want to watch this I need to fit another 26-episode series into my schedule somewhere. Ugh... well, it looks like the whole thing is available both subbed and dubbed on Hulu, any preference for which I should watch?
You just don't like Last Exile enough. The show is great.trejo said:It's nice how it doesn't really take much to please you. That's cool too.
I think Fam's quite likely even more fearless and crazy than Lavie, really.cajunator said:It really doesn't.
I like fun characters, a decent story, and great settings. This show has all of that, plus steampunk and machine porn. I'm getting the same feeling of excitement I had watching Last Exile for the first time. Fam is as fearless and crazy as Lavie was and my favorite character returning just takes the cake.
I know, that's definitely part of what makes the show so good. There's this massive disconnect between the characters' words and actions, and anything that makes sense... it might sound odd for those who haven't seen it, but that the characters take such a stupid idea so seriously really does help make the show better.EmmanuelMunoz said:Ben-To Ep.2
The level of seriousness that the characters demonstrate is perfectly contradictory to the actual plot of the show.
Indeed, for sure. That is what I love most about the episode. There are layers and layers of ridiculous depth.
Really? You must have been one of the few then...I was! I'm even quoted in the OP.
Yeah, I agree. The mix they have works quite well, I hope they keep it. Basically I just don't want something like Dog Days' non-combat episodes, which were nowhere nearly as good as the combat ones.I am hoping that they keep this focus (75% Battle 25% Harem) throughout the shows run. But you are right that it would fit the typical conventions of the genre to ramp up the amount of girls and fan service.
Ugh. Is that from that manga, though?flawfuls said:http://i.imgur.com/A4wIt.png
