The second release BD set (Anime Classics line) is better than the DVDs.

Do your research before misleading people.

Man I have no idea what your problem is. The Funi Rep I asked months ago said they weren't going to redoing anything for the Classics release.

Turns out they did do some changes. My bad. SORRY.

Either way don't get the first release. DVD looks better than it.

Thank you very much!

Does anyone know if they keep all their shows on there or is it a rotational thing? I saw that it goes back to Winter of 2009.

Crunchyroll keeps all the shows they stream online unless licensing restrictions force them to pull it (as they did with Panty and Stocking and will do at the end of the month with Steins;Gate, both of which were licensed by Funimation).

Note that in addition to their simulcasts, they also have some older titles in their library, such as Fist of the North Star and Sherlock Hound. I've found their selection and excellent iOS app to be worth the cost of subscribing.

It's a bit of both. Sometimes they score internet syndication for shows already localized by other companies and that only sticks around for a bit, other times they have shows on for years.

To counterpoint hosanna, I consider their collection largely uninteresting myself, and considering how little I'd actually watch from the site as they only have about a third of what I watch in any given season, I don't see much value in a subscription.

Okay, Anime-folks. I'm watching Death Note and so far it's one of the best things I've ever seen

So...anyone have any recommendations for other shows I should watch? I'm pretty open to anything, theme-wise, as long as it does the same thing of having a good twisty story that keeps me interested and guessing.

With Death Note basically my only experience with anime series (Watched a few full length movies here and there), I'll consider anything you throw at me.

Kaiji is often recommended to fans of Death Note since it has the same kind of tension. I'd also say Mirai Nikki which is airing now. And yeah, as has been said, Code Geass.

Okay, so I just got done watching Project A-ko!
To sum it up in one word: "silly."

It's way over the top, lots of parodies to other series, and just plain fun. I think the short run time, compared to a series format, was a perfect choice for it. I could have easily seen each day of B-ko challenging A-ko being a single episode or something.

The fighting was great, the detail and animation was way beyond what I was really expecting from it, and the cheese factor was just right. My only real complaint was too much C-ko. Man, her incessant crying and yelling was enough to drive me mad. I was cheering when that metal beam was headed for her noggin, only be be disappointed when A-ko saved her. Alas...

Best character was Agent D, hands-down, hahaha! D was only in it briefly, compared to everyone else, but I was laughing practically every time. A-ko was a close second, though.

Feels like there's plenty more of this universe to be explored, so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to somehow track down the over dvds.

Asks questions so Ezalc doesn't have to
Phi Brain 08: I feel like we're in opposite anime land. They have one super quick shot of Nonoha in a swim suit, but have virtually an entire scene with Kaitou and Ana in the onsen. Am I wrong for wanting Kaitou and Ana to get together? For the lulz?

The ending started as kind of a downer for the old guy, but ended up pretty positive. Ana's an awesome painter, even if she was kind of absorbed in her apparently communicating with the ghost of the POG giver or whatever.

Phi Brain 09: Why is Ana in the school girl outfit hotter than Nonoha will ever be? You should be ashamed of yourself, Nonoha! Tits do NOT give you a free pass! And why do you want Kaitou to be in a skirt?

Though no man or woman will be enough for Kaitou. Only puzzles turn him on! "This Sudoku, it's beautiful!" <-- (paraphrase)

So the student council prez tried to form a contract with Orpheus and fail.

... and Gammon is fucking nuts. And creepy. He should leave the cross-dressing to Ana. That goes for you too, Kaitou.

So after I re-watched the opening lines to episode 1 of Penguindrum, I think Shouma is going to do something big.
Or he's totally the reincarnation of Momoka (or the one her fate was passed onto)

I've suspected that for a while. He's got the same
child broiler-saving thing going on.
The show is great at misdirection. At first we all thought Ringo was deluded in thinking she was Momoka's reincarnation, but for a little while in the middle I thought it might have been true.

Ah yes. I mean, i've always suspected it too, but (on my part) it was always unsubstantiated and just kind of my gut feeling. After hearing those opening lines again now, it feels good to actually have something to base my feelings off of now, especially given exactly what he says.

I hate the word "fate". Birth, encounters, partings, success and failure, fortune and misfortune in life. If everything is already set in stone by fate, then why are we even born?.

There are those that are born wealthy, those born of beautiful mothers, and those born into war or poverty. If that's all caused by fate, then God must be incredibly unfair and cruel.

Because, ever since that day, none of us had a future.

The only thing we knew was that we would never amount to anything.

All of this feels like it's in a completely different perspective, and that it's
Shouma narrating from the end of the series or something, too.

Switch trolling the student council was great. Think I'm finally starting to be able to laugh at his antics again even if somewhere in the back of my mind, I'm feeling really depressed. Wonder if I'll feel the same way when the other backstories start. Can't wait for next week.

Have there been any good mystery/suspense/thriller style anime in the past year or so? I want something interesting to watch

From this season, we got Phi Brain (hit or miss), Mirai Nikki (WATCH IT), and Un-Go (no clue).

From earlier in the year, there's Steins;Gate, Kaiji season 2, Dantalian no Shoka (to some extent), and Level E (at least the first 3 episodes).

I'm going to be pretty disappointed if Penguindrum ends with
bad things happening to Shouma or Ringo. It would be more affecting if they achieved a degree of happiness for once.
I think either Kanba or Himari, or both, dying would make for the best ending.
I'll be pretty bitter if it's just 'Ringo uses the diary, moves the characters to our universe, and burns away.'

Mawaru Best Drum
What an intense episode, everything is coming together so wonderfully and sudden. it's as if there were no true plot before this point. Even when one thinks the players were in set, the reality is still different this far into the game.

Needless to say, I can't wait for the next episode, my heart is racing, my body is ready.

You know, out of morbid curiosity to see where Tenjou Tenge was supposed to go after the anime ended, I started reading the manga.

In short:

I think now the big question is, what is worse in terms of convoluted plot: Tenjou Tenge or D-Gray Man. I need to read D-Gray Man to find out. I'm just afraid people might start calling me a masochist.

Nonohas expression at that part made me laugh, similarly just like moment when the winner of the contest was announced.

You're reading an Oh! Great manga. Try Air Gear if you think Tenjou Tenge is convoluted. You wouldn't think a guy that does porn can be this confusing.

Though D-Gray Man is also pretty bad after it went monthly. Hard to say which is more convoluted.

Probably not, but now that you've put the idea in my head it'll be awfully hard to shake out.
Long as the images aint in my head.
I could call you a Veteran of the US Army, although that would also make you sound old. I'm afraid there's no adequate term here that won't make you feel old. Perhaps "strapping young lad fresh out of a tour of duty in the Army." Though that may or may not be stretching the truth? I'm not sure. I'm sure you're really strapping though.
Ex-Army is short and doesn't sound as old I think. Tour of Duty doesn't really work because I spent all my time in the States, not much of a tour that was.

Anyways I still have no Ringo scans!
The was the best scene of the episode, the explanation and then Souma's face was just perfect.
Damn this show, I bought into the possibility of Yamada being gone and yet she's still there! And yay for Inami focused episodes, best girl by far.

D. Gray Man is a pretty good, and somewhat sensible, shonen for much of its run. It just made no sense whatsoever once it switched to being a monthly.

Reborn 129

After what seemed like 20 episodes for 20 minutes of in universe time, I must say X Burner Perfect was so epic, more epic than in the manga.

Opening 4 is still my favorite for it, however Easy Go is pretty nice too.

Is it just a case of the plot being too ambitious to afford 1 month lapses between release? Like, would it have made more sense as a weekly release?

And yeah, I can really see Oh used to do porn. The art reeks of it (the style not just the obvious softcore hentai in it)

Ben-To 09: Normally I'm down for anime with hot yuri action, but this is a Shiraume episode. It was boring. :/

Well with D.Gray-man, I think Hoshino is trying to pack what would be a month of weekly material into a monthly chapter. Because of that, it feels like a bunch of plot points randomly strung together with little to no context. Certain scenes have no impact because the buildup was either very short or there was none at all. Characters appear out of nowhere, certain actions are given no explanation, etc.

It has gotten a bit easier to understand as of late, but the arc before the most recent one was an indiscernible mess.

I remember it’s having one the longest flash back ever, to the point I completely forgot those other characters exist.

Feels like being a broken record, but yet again, this was a great episode and once again Chihaya shows why she's an awesome character. Sucks for Taichi that
Arata has to bring reality down on him like a rock.
My only complaint is the occasional bad art at Taichi's house.

Last I remember you haven't watched anything from the series other than the first movie, so how do you know that?

I mean, the second A-ko movie really wasn't very good, but the third was alright, and I like the "versus battle" spinoff series, that was good stuff.

Aww. : (
If I ever run across them dirt cheap, I'll probably get them, but I'll take your advice in the mean time.

It's too bad that part 3 is a direct sequel to part 2, otherwise I'd say to just skip that one and get to the better parts of the sequels, but yeah, it is, so...

(As for the fourth part (final movie) of the main series, I haven't seen that one myself. I should...)

I'm not sure if that's the case....

Shouma was born the day of the attacks, but it was before they were carried out. In other words, Shouma and Momoka were both alive at the same time, for maybe a few hours.

Ben-To 7-8 - One episode I liked, one not so much. Neither is really the show at its best though.

Ep. 7 - This is the "let's go to the pool" episode. It's decent, I was entertained. There was plenty of fanservice of course, but it wasn't just that. The plot was good enough for this kind of episode, and there was a bento battle too. :) Learning the origins of the nicknames was kind of amusing, too... Sen's... :lol

Ep. 8 - This one wasn't so good. It focuses on these two new girls, who are the president and VP of his cousins' school, and are quasi-but-probably-not-really-incestuous twins, I believe. They're infiltrating a hospital where the MC is staying (after he
jumped out a window in order to try to save his falling Saturn, which Yarizui had thrown out the window in frustration at losing repeatedly to all three characters... he fell four or five stories, and was only slightly hurt? Lucky...
) because of a standard misunderstanding they think he's someone else(
Yarizui, because apparently they like her or something. Well, one of them seems to that is, the other's just helping her out.
The plot's mediocre, and the episode wasn't that great either. This would go in the lower tier of episodes of this show. I mean, it was okay -- certainly could have been a lot worse -- but it wasn't exactly great either.

The final joke was funny, though, a nice role reversal from the usual.
You know, the MC got the "hot milk" spilled on him while almost naked, and Oshiroi saw and got a nosebleed and gave it a thumbs up... amusing.
Doesn't save the episode though.

looks kind of...blah.
Milky Holmes is a pretty good comedy anime, and one that animegaf really did a disservice to by writing off and ignoring when the first season aired. You've got another chance, season 2 is coming, hopefully it's as good and people pay more attention this time... :)

Yeah, not a new picture, but it is kind of amusing how similar those two are... were they consciously trying to have her look like the lead from Akazukin Chacha there, I wonder?

Overall animation quality of the show is slowly declining...still great ending for this episode.

The first series would have been way better if they handled the stuff with Inami even half as well as this ep did. Souma's a pro troll.

Anyone know if Crunchyroll is legit? Thought about signing up. Anywhere else I should look?

While your first question has already been answered, here's a response to your second. Like Crunchyroll, anything found here is legal.

http://www.funimation.com/
or http://www.youtube.com/user/FUNimation

http://www.theanimenetwork.com/
or http://www.youtube.com/user/animenetwork

or http://www.youtube.com/user/MANGAentertainment

Many (if not all?) of the North American distribution sites provide anime streams. Assuming you live in the US, Hulu is another good place to look (some distributers actually use the Hulu streams).

As for more anime recommendations, Baccano! is a good pick.

Edit: Oh yeah, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.

Persona 4: The Animation - 9://Being an idol may be hazardous to your health

Oh hey, they did an insert song for Rise as the OP. Isn't that ni-HNNNNNNNNNNNNG

It's pretty easy to see the budget difference between this show and the other show that Rie Kugimiya is currently voicing an idol in. The special OP contained 95% still-framing and 5% actual animation for the song and dance sequence.

I'm glad to see that they are finally putting in the effort to come up with unique dialogue and scenes for the anime. Somewhere around the episode with Yukiko's Shadow fight, the show has really hit it's stride in terms of telling the same story as the game but in a different way. It's gotten much better because it's not just the exact scenes in the game being animated.

Yu's stats sure increased a lot faster than mine did in the game. He's such a fucking stat-hacking son of a bitch. He's already at 3/5 on all of his stats!

Oh, right, Yu Narukami is a dick. It's hilarious in this episode because he just nonchalantly starts helping Rise out with dodging the paparazzi like it's something he does everyday. Then he insults her paper crane folding skills. Guy's a player and a total dick at the same time. Respect +1.

You know, I'm never really sure what I think about this show, so I've been watching it fairly quietly. I will say, even when the fleet battles make no sense, the fact that fleet battles are almost obsolete from televised science fiction makes me excited whenever I see one. I'm sure it's back to the boring politics or the Fam show next week though.

That cliffhanger on 135. I guess since I speed read through the manga I forgot many of the outcomes to the fights. I dont remember all of the guardians losing.

Great ending to the arc, but the following episodes...ridiculous to need soma to bowl. Hana and Miyuri have the best laughs of the season.
