It's the rules.
It's the only sports where stars can get ejected from the game for something as petty touch fouls.

I think it's time we rethink the system, and while at it, have a goal of reducing the number of free throws, drastically.
Not sure how it can be done, but we should at least try.

Dial back the defensive rules to how it was in the 90s, it's easy. You'll get a handful of teams that play hacking, ugly basketball, but that really isn't all that different from right now. Just allowing hand checking would reduce the number of cheap fouls overnight.
