2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

So sorry to disappoint, but I NEED to tweak a Witcher 2 ENB first. After I finally finally finally 'finish' the Fallout 3 one and churn out a New Vegas config.

Did K release his Witcher 2 ENB anywhere? I've been itching to try it.

Also, uh... Chivalry screenshots.

Also, why do you keep putting your best shots in that overflow account of yours. More of this please:

That's where I pretty much put EVERYTHING I want to post around the internet. I only upload to my main flickr when I decide I'm happy with them. That way there's no damage done if I decide to delete something (I hate seeing that flickr thumbnail in place of a deleted shot). I even thought about using a completely different site for all my image dumping but I'm just so used to flickr... and now its free.

Anyways, fixed :)

I'm not seeing any blatant compression and I'm pretty sure Darkdeus has been using jpeg since forever.

It's not a huge difference but it's definitely noticeable around edges and dark colors you can see the compression artifacts. Since he is saving in Photoshop it's easy to just flick it over from saving at 10 quality to saving at 12 and get rid of the compression.

Yea Im aware these ones are saved at 10. I went back though and saved some at 12 and couldn't notice a difference. I thought I could at first but looking at them later I really couldn't tell. I went through and reuploaded some of them but I'm just to lazy to do all 150. I'll check out those shots specifically though to see if it helps. From now on ill use 12 and progressive scan 5.

The progressive scan is only to shrink the file size a bit so it's not really required to keep the quality up, just a heads up.

I don't know maybe I'm just particularly sensitive to that stuff but it is easy to just slide it to 12 and then it'll default to that from then on and the image looks a lot cleaner as a result.

Yea from now on I'll keep it at 12. Here's the original shot png shot:

vs the jpeg at 10 quality.

If I look very closely I can see a very slight difference in some areas but I think most people would not be able to tell.

Huh, with that shot in particular I actually think it's especially noticeable. Have them both open full screen in separate tabs and switch between the two.

All of the deep blacks on the tower knight on the left turn into a dark fuzzy grey. The left shoulder and shield area of the Elite Knight get a ton of compression artifacts as well as the bottom part of the cloth on his armor, the tower knights left leg and shield get some blocky compression near the bottom, theres more but yeah I'm not gonna just harp on it.

When I intitally brought it up I wasn't just trying to bitch about it or anything, it's just the whole purpose of this thread is for clean high quality screenshots and it's a simple fix to pump out nearly-lossless JPEGs using the same method you were already using. Like I've said before, I like what you've been doing with Dark Souls and thats why I'm pointing it out - I'd love to see them looking as good as they are.

oh it's cool I'm glad you pointed it out. The only reason I don't want to re-save them and upload them is that I cropped the jpeg versions so I would have to re-crop around 70 shots which I just don't feel like doing. I may do it for some of the better shots tho.

I was trying out the new binary and decided to have a little fun with some outlandish values (negative bokeh bias and silly HDR values). Not for everyone (you know who you are).

I'd just been watching 'The Fifth Element'. I think some of the grain spilled over.

Have fun with Deadlight. And remember: run as fast as you can. It makes the game a lot more confusing.
