2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Didn't even know they made games in Paint =P

I actually posted my shots as PNGs instead of lossless JPEGs for Antichamber because there were so few colors in the images that PNG files were actually smaller than JPEGs lol.

Not sure why Visceral Games tried to talk down the quality of the PC release.

They've got question about DX 11 and answered it in not diplomatic way, but it was obvious that DS 3 port will be at least the same or slightly better than DS 2 port.
Unfortunately, because we have journalism on level we have, instead of correcting it, sites just trolled it further ;\ Thats why we will never have non-PR quotes from not known/respected AAA devs ever again ;\

From an older version of pCars (pre weather effects and whatnot). Just found them in my screenshots folder

ds3 does not use frostbite, in fact, i can max it out at 3840 x 2160 with everything on max and still manage to get 200fps

Yeah ok.

Here's a non-descriptive screengrab from a random small room practically staring at a wall/door with a whopping 44 fps using :

deadspace32013-02-051kjjqu.png

-Max settings ( this includes soft high shadows and smaa, you know... max settings )
-3840x2160
-2600k@4.6ghz
-670@680 speeds.

So you either have tri/quad sli 680s, a beefy AMD setup and the game is broken on Nvidia, or you don't actually use max settings or have 200 fps outside of a very few choice moments. Feel free to divulge which it is.

Serious question for the more prominent posters in this thread- are your pictures taken with settings that leave the game playable ? I ask because in my case , I can crank up a game like crysis 2 , turn on HD textures, direct X 11 mode but I get 20 fps at 1080p and about 30 fps if I go to 720p and just upscale. More recently I decided that half the dx11 effects were kind of ugly anyway (the bricks are just a wasteful use of tesselation) so I turned dx11 mode off but left HD textures on. This literally doubled my framerate - at 1080p it runs 60 quite regularly dropping to 40ish on occasion.

Do some of you guys just have very beefy cards or are you just cranking up the settings for a nice screen shot and then turning it down to play it ? Crysis 2 or even the original games were some of the worst offenders that come to mind for me , unreal engine 3 stuff runs smooth as silk except the outdoor segments of the arkham games, capcoms framework games run 120fps + too so it's mostly just a cryengine thing.

Most (if not all) of my screens are captured using 60fps settings. I just set Fraps to take shots automatically every 90 seconds and play, so it's not very practical for me to keep changing settings everytime I want to take a screenshot.

Goddamn Corky, way to kill my boner. So is this a driver thing right now causing poor performance? Also is SMAA working?

Well you can turn down shadows from "soft high shadows" to "high shadows" and you gain x2 performance, in that scene where I got 44 fps I got around ~80 fps with "high shadows" and FXAA instead of SMAA. So the performance is anything but bad considering the resolution :) just that using actual max settings and 4k is too much for any single gpu solution out there if 60 fps locked is your aim.

So now you have stands on your GTA4. I'd very much appreciate if someone documented the evolution of TheVampire's madness.

Played 5 chapters so far and the game feels like a mix of Dead Space 1 and 2 and I love it. I just read the comment above thinking "the fuck is he on about, gears in space?" and I realized you probably mean the whole co-op aspect of which I haven't even noticed anything outside of one optional co-op mission during the first 3-4 hours of playtime. But yeah sure it's Gears of Uncharted Space if you tell yourself it is for me it's more Dead Space than 2 ever was but who knows maybe the game turns into shit further down though if it keeps up like it has now I don't see how anyone who enjoyed 1 and 2 wouldn't enjoy 3.

Admittedly i haven't played it but that was the impression the co-op left on me.

In all honesty, i forgot about sarcasm and the internet. Don't let my ignorance ruin it for you, Angellus, give it a whirl going off Croky's views.

Maybe I'm just being overly cautious, feels like people are ripping into good games and totally shitting on them ( DS3 and DmC two recent examples ) for no other reason than it's cool to do so. Not saying you did in this case nor that those aforementioned games are perfect by any means, they're not.

Corky lies! DON'T BELIEVE HIS LIES! :3

I'll gamefly it and see how I feel about it.

Go ahead, beneath the grime of filth and dirt that is the shoddy business practice of EA lies a good game and a worthy successor to DS2 ( with the caveat that I've only done 33% of the SP chapters as of yet ). I'm not naive, it's not without its flaws but I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoyed the first two.

This makes me wanna play it

Do you play with a 360 pad or with KB/M, and if so: does it control well or sluggish?

Playing with a 360 pad, which at 60 fps feels as smooth as it can get for me. That sluggish pad control from (pre-patch?) DS1 are long gone.

Where are the screens Corky?

I want to finish the game first ;P, otherwise I'd never be able to finish it if I'm constantly walking around talking pics of interesting vistas and grimy spaceship corridors <3

edit : ^eek that's further than I am, bailout.gif

DmC is a pile of crap!

I bought it and can't even get past the Cacpcom logo >:(

Even with the 'un-plug peripheral XYZ' fixes it still crashes.

The problem is that DS2 was rather bad.

Nah not really, bad is a relative term and while this industry is messed up when it comes to objectively assessing a game's flaws/strengths DS2 was anything but a bad game. It took the franchise in a direction I wasn't too enthused about while still improving the game's overall quality. In any case, the first third of DS3 is more akin to the first game ( with regards to setting ) than the second one.

Sorry to hear, haven't heard of that.

You hero. Are you loving this game as well?

Also DS3 has added to my opinion that many 3rd person games, if cinematic and possesing a quality motion blur, should run at 30 fps. It seems to be the video game equivalent of 24p. I did some experiments with 48fps, 48hz and all that kind of stuff, and it doesn't match up as one might imagine, but that makes sense. My favorite sense of motion is actually locked 28 when using the 54hz 4k. This is not to knock 60 in any way, its just a theory of mine. And along with that, a large range of games do not ascribe to it, such as most FPS and all racing games. The only first person games I liked capping were crysis (sp) and skyrim, with no huds.

Anyway... I look forward to posting more DS3 screens when I get back to my real computer. This one's from the same spot as last time :P

This game's piss filter hurts my eyes. I tried to fix it a little with SweetFX.

Piss filter on

Gross. Try a 2.35:1 aspect ratio with Dead Space if you want that "cinematic" feel.

Different people like things differently, personally I think using a film ratio on a 16:9 or 16:10 monitor is a grotesque waste, and that dark period where everyone was posting shots like that in here was terrible.

Your personal experience and enjoyment is what matters, in any form of entertainment, not measuring up to some technical requirement.

Every game should run at 60fps, and there should be built-in frame limiters for the weirdos who prefer 30 to use. Unfortunately, it's usually the other way around, and I have to spend a ton of money to be able to push those 30fps games to 60.

I don't think there's enough Dead Space in here, so I'm going to help.

For some reason I can't see my fps with dxtory in this game, but I can still grab screenshots. It feels like it's running good enough with everything maxed out at 2720x1530. Not 60fps all the time, but what can you expect from a 6950 at that res.

Got the 6950 myself. So sad to think of it as one of the lesser cards now.

Yeah, but at least I got mine for a pretty damn good price just a few months after it was released. Directly converted I gave 1700SEK (195€) for it when it was 2500SEK (300€) here in Sweden. So I sure got value for my money. But now I'm wating for whatever comes next from Nvidia (if only Titan was 500 bucks, I would so buy that thing..) because this card just isn't enough for my needs anymore.
