2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

Also I managed to get 4x4 SSAA to work which at a "native" res of 3680x2070 would mean... 14720 x 8280 but how can I even start the game or have anything other than 1fps? Because I'm getting anything between 20-30 fps. My gut instinct tells me that the SSAA isn't "fully" implement or something, even though I can clearly see a clear increase in IQ.

That's because SSAA doesn't just simply up your res then downscale. It takes your screen, ups its res, let's say you're using 2xSSAA so it ups the res twice. That way a single pixel from your original res is divided into subpixels. The subpixels are used for calculating the average color of said pixel. It is done by taking samples within the pixel, the bigger the SSAA, the more the pixel is divided so it takes more samples which results in less jaggies. Samples are took in different orders, that's how we have OGSSAA, SGSSAA etc. And there you go, less jaggies, and you're not actually displaying in two times bigger res, that's just simply downsampling. I hope I made it easy to understand. If I'm horribly wrong then someone correct me.

My first post here in this thread, since my account was activated on the 7th! :D Hmm that is odd..gonna change to png.

MoP reminded me of just how much Blizzard are masters of their own engine. Their texture-work is fantastic considering the age of World of Warcraft.

Discussion was already had a few pages back, consensus was bandwidth is a non issue in this thread. If png->jpg isn't worth the conversion, I'm not sure where the line is drawn.
I think several of us were trying to post about this -- someone was apparently joking regarding BMP. BMP and PNG are identical in image quality. Not similar. Not almost the same. Exactly, 100% identical. In addition, BMP files being so much larger in file size means they take forever to download because of the server hosting the image, not just because of individual people's download bandwidths.

PNGs are good.

Why is it that everyone can downsample Mirror's Edge and I can't?! It just won't show any of the custom resolutions over 2560x1600. Dammit.
Some GPUs just won't output anything over a certain res. My 5850/5970 will refuse to do anything over 2560x1600 (out of one video port). Eyefinity no problemo, but it's a hard limitation AFAIK.

Downsampled from 2880x1620 with 4x4 SGSSAA. Still 30fps!
A PC gamer settling for 30fps... I never thought I'd see the day.

No, this is game exclusive - As in it doesn't work in Mirror's Edge. I can easily run a custom resolution of 3840x2400 and it works in a slew games, except ME despite editing the .ini as well.

Fuck, that IS weird. Only thing I can think of is make sure you kill any memory resident stuff that might fuck with your display (a la Fraps, RadeonPro if you're ATI, that sort of thing).

Fairly sure the first one wasn't scene wasn't actually realtime render but some bink video or something :'/

I am not so keen on downsampling as a result of refresh rates.
I am so used to 120hz that 60hz looks really bad.

I think I just figured out the problem, and it really really is just getting the EDID. Thus I feel silly for seeking out help without trying longer. Also, I am nervous to say things are working, because downsampling at a lower Hz always feels like its just going to stop working, haha.

Also, I have not experienced 120hz, but have an 85hz capable Sony FW900 (CRT brilliance!) and I must say that competitive shooters just aren't even close to similar on my 60hz lcd.
How is the 120hz panel?

Any suggestions on how to get the character out of frame in guild wars 2? I remember seeing someone post shots like that here before.

The difference is ridiculous to say the least. Some games force a 60hz update (like rage for example) and it takes about an hour or so to get used to the jitter.

at a full 120hz I most definitely cannot tell the difference between individual frames and games on average seem much more responsive. takes a lot of power though.

Even then, a flat 90 or so is also pretty awesome

So it doubles each frame for 60 fps games?
Do you have less vsync/tearing issues? Perhaps my experience is unique, but my LCD has an inordinate amount of tearing issues. As I mentioned earlier, it's actually better at 54hz/2400p.
