For all it could have been, even if it played as good as it should have, it'd still be a generic looking game that re-uses assets too much.
 
Few more Crysis 3. Hopefully I won't be compelled to play this until there mods and\or new content. I just... crave these visuals and can't get them elsewhere.

Thanks :) I feel like I'm hogging the thread... but I'm new here on these forums and I've wanted to post in the high res thread here for a looong time :)

I only knew about GAF what I've read on other forums... which is honestly not accurate at all from what I've seen. Also, people here are actually very appreciative of good image quality and composition, especially in the bullshot thread. So I'm quite at home :)

It's kinda annoying but here is how I do it.

First, getting Maldo's OnTheFly tool is a big help. This lets you bind keys to commands. I have a key to set "r_drawnearfov 2" which lets me instantly hide my weapon when I want.

When you zoom in with a weapon, you get depth of field on whatever you're not currently focused on. I use those big stationary weapons that you have to tear off of the ground to use. The reason is because when you zoom in with that weapon and use "r_drawnearfov 2" the gun is completely invisible when zoomed. I don't know of any other gun like that. Most guns' iron sights still show up.

I also have keys bound to certain FOVs. So once I zoom in to get the weapon depth of field effect, I can easily increase the zoomed-in FOV to something normal.

Just an experiment I felt like trying. It's not very high quality DoF but it does make for some interesting screenshots if used well :) Sadly, if you enable Bokeh depth of field, it doesn't appear when you use the weapon zoom. A shame... screenshots would be much better with bokeh :)

With a similar process, you can do the same in Borderlands 2.

Crysis 3 is so gorgeous its ridiculous. I am going through it for the second time and I still can't believe how good it looks at times.

Tomb Raider shots show just how wildly inconsistent that game looks.

Amazing looking shots neoenigma.

Well this game only has a finite number of locations to take screenshots of...

Originally, I created a no-clip hack that allowed me to get to some nice angles. Problem is, when the game is updated, I have to do it all over again. And it took me a good 5 hours. So I can't really do original screenshots anymore... so anything "original" won't be of the highest image quality that I'm getting with Maldo's OnTheFly + TXAA =(

damn @ those C3 shots

More arguments for why Crytek should just entirely strip out the shitty story, the combat and explosions and turn Crysis into a walking simulator.
