2013 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Let the JPEG Die Already

A single 780 can run Hawken at 4K at 60fps, are you fucking kidding me?

My 590 can't even maintain locked 30 at 1800p. That seems like a far more substantial upgrade than I was expecting...

I was under the impression that Hawkens intensity was mostly CPU based?

Maybe, but PhysX killed my 580 even with my i5 2500k at 4.5 Ghz. I had a hard time maintaining fps. This card scales like a boss, though. I was trying Planetside 2 at 4k and was getting around 30 fps solid.

I'll go ahead and upload a video of me playing it at 4k. The video is at 30 fps, but that's WITH Fraps recording at 4k, lol. out of Fraps recording, I easily maintain 60 with a few hiccups every now and then.

Small correction on Hawken. Depending on the level, 4k gets around 40-50 fps. Even when it dips to 30, though, it's been pretty smooth. Still uploading a video... maybe... if I can export it right... I suck at video...

I can play this at 4k, but the hair is still doing that blurry nonsense... Was there ever a fix for that?

Anyways, here.

Took this shot before, but I think this time it's framed better.

I just completed TR. I absolutely loathe the use of colour in that game.

Color? where? I don't remember any color... lol, I loved it.
Honestly, it matches the tone of the game very well. Earthen colors are perfect here, IMO. Maybe in the sequel, if we find some well preserved tombs, there should be some color.

Those Tomb Raider shots look incredibly clean.

That one in particular looks like it's cut straight from a pre-rendered scene

The in-game cut scenes, even though they're in-engine, look a loooot better than normal gameplay. Mostly because of close-up camera angles + depth of field. I never found the game to be very screenshot friendly during actual gameplay. Everything just kinda looks muddy.

I'm sort of ok with that practice. It's a lot better than making the cutscenes into 720p compressed Bink files...

Also, I'll state this for the rest of my life;

Muddy works for this game. (and most games with lots of mud) Texture-wise, I guess it's a hindrance.

Edit: Also, Pro gave me the OK, so I'm invincible.

I have a question: getting a little bored with skyrim.

i want to give Fallout 3 a shot but i have been wary because steam says the game is not optimized for win 7.

are these worries unfounded ?

From what I've played of it, they're unfounded.

Go balls deep. I really want to re-mod out Oblivion...

First post on GAF, long time admirer of this thread in particular. Here are some old TR screenshots I took when playing aiming for 60fps, so I could have squeezed out more quality if I wanted to. Still nice I think.

I play it on Windows 8 64-bit with a ton of mods without any problems. Before that I played it on Windows 7 64-bit without any problems.

Not sure if these are spoilery (they show some scenery that surprised me), so I'll just paste the links here now. Will edit them to quoted images if deemed as appropriate.

The moratorium on minor-spoiler filled screenshots is 2 months after the game comes out, so I would say those are both perfectly fine to be posted. Even within the 2 month limit really, as those are not very significant spoilers at all. We're not quite that uptight, unless you do something silly like post the plot twist to Bioshock Infinite or something... not that anyone would do something like that...

There's a plot twist? NOOOOO!!!!

I wondered about that myself. 2 months eh? Good to know. Is there a length of time when major spoilers can be posted?

The rule in the first post of the thread specifically states "Spoilers: Please do not post major plot points from games released in the last 2 months." which leaves it a bit open to interpretation and your own good judgment.

Most people tend to post screenshots from the 1/2 half of most games anyway, especially close to release. That's usually a decent rule to follow, and obviously laxes up a bit as the game gets farther and farther away from launch and depending on the importance of the game's narrative.

Usually environmental and most gameplay shots are fairly non-spoiler'y, avoid posting screenshots from cutscenes at the end of the game and stuff.

Spoilers are rarely rarely ever an issue in this thread, it's just every once in a while someone will not read the rules and get a little overzealous.
