I was able to run it too on Windows 10 64bit. Have you tried stopping "TabletInputService" in Task Manager > Services and then tried running it ?

Aye, I actually disabled it when I first installed W10. Nothing works. I'm suspecting an issue with audio, but there's no way I'm playing it muted. I'll just wait until Primal. Thanks anyway!

Posted a bit of GTA SA earlier with mods that added in the PS2 effects, but someone made a good suggestion that the "focus" was not very good.

So I did a bit of digging over the last two evenings and did some editing of the configuration files of the mods (specifically the Sky Mod for GTA SA) and managed to discover some of the options they placed in there which you can use to tailor the post-processing they re-added to the PC version of the game.

The edit was essentially just removing the downscaling and offset of one of the post-processing effects, so that way the nice colour gradients and radiosity effects like in the PS2 version could be maintained without any "ghost" artifacting on the sides :)

The only downside was a bit of performance hit in scenarios with a lot of alpha transparencies (like the farm fields), but otherwise smooth sailing!

I did also keep one effect which is a slight pixel blur that helps also keep a soft look to the image, but that can be turned off using the same configuration files for Sky Mod which is really neat too.

Anyway, here, hope they are appealing, this is the best I've seen the "PS2" version look and even though it was a 12 year wait to get to this point it's nice to see!

Part of me wants to give San Andreas another shot before I try GTA V for the first time, but when I first tried to play SA back in the day on the PS2 I honestly couldn't get a hang of the gameplay at all. It was my first GTA game and for starters the controls felt awful. I could never survive a gun fight because the shooting controls and character movement felt terrible, which caused me to retry missions tons of times, and retrying missions always felt like a huge hassle because it was a choice between buying all your supplies again or reloading a save and driving halfway across town again. Then it just felt like the game threw way too many mechanics and systems at me and spent way too much time teaching them to me.

The atmosphere and characters were really well-done but the actual game was unplayable for me. GTA V is the first one where the controls feel just good enough for me to actually be able to enjoy the game.

I heard the controls were better on PC for the older games, but everything I've heard about SA's PC port sounds like it was a mistake for me to buy it on Steam. It sounds like Rockstar did everything to limit people's options down to a fucked-up port of the game.

Really? I hated that song so much, so ill-fitting for the context. I modded it out and replaced it with a Dark Souls boss theme lol.

Also,
um, posting the final DLC boss so soon seems spoilerish no?

haha, i think it's perfect for the fight but tastes be tastes
yeah, i thought about that too and then remembered he's on the cover of the game so i decided to do it because i love that fight and think those shots are cool. i posted a shot from dragon fight earlier and felt it ultimately fell into the same category of thing

With mono activated CE will find it everytime. I have no idea if that is a regular feature of unity and works with every unity game though.

Ah, makes sense. This shouldn't be too difficult though: with dotPeek / Reflector / ILSpy / JustDecompile you can decompile the game dll to C# sourcecode with names you can search for, e.g. camera / projection etc. You can then find where the camera code is, in which class. That knowledge then brings you right back in CE at the location of the asm and you can change that in CE, as you know what the camera does and where it is. Changing the C# and adding some additional code that e.g. reads values from parameters you set in CE and recompiling it likely won't work as the game dll is likely signed.

Great shot!

It's the first GTA game to use dual-analog controls so if you were able to play Vice City or III you should be able to do pretty OK in GTA SA since there is both auto-aim and manual aim as well as full camera control.

The controls on PC are OK, but have a few limitations on the keyboard and mouse, particular with camera control in airplanes (if the mouse is used for controlling airplanes, there is no camera control, which there is always while using a controller). Additionally controller pads have an advantage with a Xinput library mod for the game called Ginput that allows one to use the original console controls on the computer version (the vanilla or Steam release does not allow this on their own which is lol).

Right now I'm not 100% sure which elements are removed from GTA SA, or the "new Steam GTA SA", because I bought the game far before the content removal on Steam, and I am not using that one to play the game.... so I can't vouch for what is or isn't there :(

You can try to get a hold of the release of the DVD release for PC but of course it will have to be through some online retailer or something probably.

My suggestion is to go back and try the game again. If you're familiar with traditional dual-stick analog controls in FPS or TPS games, you *shouldn't* have a problem with GTA SA controls, but I can't promise that of course ^^

Just remember to use Ginput (Xinput library mod) if you're using a controller pad. If you use KB/M the controls are OK as they are.

Yea really, RE0 looks way better than REmake.

So did they re-render the RE0 backgrounds completely, or did Capcom just do a much better job of upscaling them?

That's the thing, I never played III or Vice City. I only briefly played SA, struggled to finish IV because I thought the controls were still pretty bad in that one, and briefly played V on PS3.

I think the problem with the old ones is most people got on the GTA series with III in 2001, before dual analog third person shooter controls became the norm, and people kinda just got used to what was around back then. I didn't try to play SA or any GTA game until 2006, by which time its controls felt ancient.

Not sure on the RE0 HD question, but the backgrounds are much sharper in details compared to REmake HD. Whatever they did it's just much better :)

On the topic of GTA, I feel ya, it can be a bit of a shock to go to older games. If you can try it for a good time before you commit to buying that may help you.

I'd only suggest to give it more time to acclimate to the controls since it's such a fantastic game overall IMO, really my favourite GTA. If not no biggie, but if you can I think you will really enjoy it.

I actually like the controls in GTA SA better than GTA IV and V though, one reason being they are far more responsive.

I now feel confident in saying that DDDA easily has the most visually pleasing, impactful, and plain awesome spellcasting in any game ever.

Any good suggestions on software to take screenshots with? Steam doesn't include post-processing, Playclaw unfortunately crashes on Unity games, Fraps I haven't checked in ages. Maybe MSI Afterburner?

I just want something that's able to capture post-processing (Reshade/Sweetfx) without interferring with the game (Reshade's own screenshot functionality stops the game for like 2-3 seconds to write to disk).

Absolutely MSI Afterburner!

It's a no-brainer for me since I'm already using it to overclock, but it also captures ReShade. Win-win.

I think that's just an issue with PNGs, right? If you capture BMPs, it should be instant. I prefer BMPs for that reason. They are larger, but you can convert them to whatever you want later.

Fraps, Bandicam and MSI Afterburner.

Thanks Jim and Timu, it's such a basic question, but sometimes it just seems like the tools I'm using are inadequate in their own special way.
